Wishing Israel Emuge the best of luck

Israel Emuge, the giant Ugandan centre back has officially left Gor Mahia during the 2015 mid year transfer season. Emuge joined Gor Mahia in January of 2013 and was specifically recruited by coach Bobby Ogolla when the latter had gone to Uganda to scout for talent. He made an immediate impression when on his debut against Mathare United, he won DSTV man of the match honours.

Emuge when fit was a solid defender who had very good skills on the ball. He was a decent passer and was capable of starting moves from his centre-back position. He offerered the club stability in the centre of defense due to his no-nonsense approach, bravery and physical presence have fast-transformed him into a fearsome character for all opposition in Kenya..His play was the key in helping Gor Mahia concede the fewest number of goals in 2013.

Unfortunately his 2014 season was injury plagued. Still Emuge played a key role as Gor Mahia won the league in 2013 and 2014. In 2015 he was selected ahead of Taofiq Zachary as the last eligible foreign player. He has however not featured much for the club this season other than in friendlies.

Emuge is happy to have gotten the opportunity to play at Kogalo.

“I am sad to leave Gor Mahia but happy that I came to this great club in the first place,” he said. “I have had a very good time here. I have won trophies, connected with fans and made good friends.” said Emuge to supersport.com

This year Emuge found himself way back in the pecking order behind players like Musa Mohamed, Shakava, Kevin Oluoch and Dirkir Glay. But he is not bitter about his lack of playing time.

“No regrets for me. I know that the last one year has been tough because I have not played a lot of games but I cannot complain for even one moment about my time. Good or bad, I had a good time here.” he added.

Emuge was non-committal about what is his next step.

” Now I look forward to a new adventure and wish the club and fans all the best in the coming years,” he added

“I will decide on what to do. I have not made my mind up yet. You will know when I do,” he says.

Israel Emuge was born on May 6 1982. Prior to joining Gor Mahia he had played for top Uganda sides including KCC with whom he won the league in 2008 and Express FC before joining Kira Young.

Nuttall set to return Friday as Gor Mahia release 3

Gor Mahia coach Frank Nuttall is set to return on Friday after a well deserved holiday. This means he will miss the GoTV shield match against Langata Gremio and will not play much of a role in preparing the team for the clash against Chemelil on Saturday. However team official Ronald Ngala says there is no cause for alarm.

“He left behind a comprehensive training program with his assistant and so there is no cause regarding his absence. The team is in very good hands and we expect to start well on Saturday,” Ngala told goal.com

Chemelil are playing their home matches at Afraha because Kisumu stadium has been banned due to its flimsy perimeter fence that is easily torn down by fans. Case in point was the last match of the 2014 season. When Eric Ochieng scored, fans tore down the fence and almost caused a stampede. And in the last match Gor Mahia played at Moi stadium, fans poured into the pitch forcing certain players to rush to the dressing room. KPL has thus mandated that Kisumu county address these issues. Three Players Released

Israel Emuge, Charles Bruno and Jerry Santos have all been released by the club.

“We have released Santos, Bruno and Emuge, we thought it is wise to release them so that they can get some game elsewhere, as a club we would like to thank them for their service to Gor Mahia and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors” said Ronald Ngala to futaa.com

Neither player has featured much for the club this season. Bruno who was signed in the middle of 2014 played a key role for the club and acquited himself well when the club was beset with departures and injuries. Bruno who joined from Thika United was once a very promising player who even attended trials in Italy after he played for the Kenya U-17 side. He will thrive at SoNy Sugar where he can play with no pressure.

Emuge for his part has been very solid when on the field but is often injured. Jerry Santos hardly played for Kogalo. He had seen the writing on the wall long ago and started to train with Posta Rangers.

SoNy Sugar are keen on signing Charles Bruno. The departed trio joins Kevin Oluoch who has joined Muhoroni, leaving Kogalo rather thin in the centre back position.

Gor Mahia squad: Taofiq dropped, Emuge back

The Gor Mahia squad for the first leg of the 2015 KPL season was named yesterday. Missing from the squad is Ghanaian striker Taofiq Zakari. Meanwhile giant Ugandan defender Israel Emuge who at one point appeared to be on the way out has been recalled. Emuge had an injury plagued 2014 season.

As for Zakari, he is being dropped because the club has already reached its allowable quota of foreigners. On January 2, FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya announced that teams playing continental football will be allowed to sign 7 foreigners. Currently Gor Mahia has 9 foreign born players : Simon Pierre, Sibomana, Nigiyizimana, Kagere, Emuge, Dirkir Glay, Walusimbi, Aucho and Zakari. One of these ( either Glay or Pierre) qualifies for residency as a refugee.

According to orgainizing secretary Ronald Ngala, Zakari had been signed as a potential replacement for Dan Sserunkuma as Gor Mahia desperately searched for a goal-scorer. He was assesed by the assistant coaches and deemed acceptable. Coach Nuttall having assesed both he and Olunga deemed them adequate but not outstanding. Nuttall seemingly prefers to keep Emuge as the 7th foreigner.

“The signing was sanctioned by assistant coaches but the influx of better foreign players has complicated the matter” . There are several players who were signed on recommendation of the assistant coaches based on the specification the head coach left behind, Taofiq being one of them because coach needed a finisher” said Ngala

However according to Ronald Ngala, Taofiq has already signed a contract and the club is now obligated to sign him.

“The coach made that decision, the office is now obligated to act in the best interest of the player..so he will stay around until a mutual agreement is reached.” said Ngala

Interestingly, Taofiq played in the match against Kibera Black stars in which Gor Mahia won 3-0 thanks to goals from Sibomana, Kagere and Simon Pierre.
