Welcome back Meddie Kagere

After a six month absence from the team, Rwandese talisman Meddie Kagere is back and will help spur Gor Mahia’a attack during the second leg of the 2016 Kenya Premier League. This comes as good news to Gor Mahia fans as the Kogalo attack has not been as sharp as it was in 2015. And there has been an overdependence on Jacque Tuyisenge.

“We are happy to announce the signing of our former player Meddie Kagere. He has signed a two-year contract which will see him with us until 2018.” said an official to goal.com.

Kagere left in December after the club could not meet his sign on bonus demands. The well traveled and highly experienced Kagere has featured for several clubs in Rwanda such as Atraco FC, Police, Rayon Sports, Kiyovu and Mukura. He has also played for Club Esperance (Tunisia) and FK Tirana (Albania). At the national level, the 29-year old talent has made 30 appearances for Rwanda national team, Amavubi, scoring 10 goals in all competitions.

Silva to stay on trial

Meanwhile Brazilian striker Thiago Da Silva will stay at Kogalo on trial for a period of 6 months. Da Silva arrived in the country last month to much fanfare. Since then he has been the subject of rumours with reports suggesting he was already on his way back to Brazil.

“The coach has assessed Thaigo Silva and reported that he still needs some time in trials before he signs. That means that he will be with us until next window to see his progress for a possible signing. He will not go back to Brazil.” said an official to goal.com

Da Silva had previously played in the Macau league where he scored 15 goals.

Kagere and Silva shine as Gor Mahia beat Jericho All Stars

Earlier reports indicating that Gor Mahia’s Brazilian trialist Thiago Silva had left the country have now been proven unfounded. The Brazilian was in action and scored when Gor Mahia beat Jericho All Stars in a friendly match on Wednesday.

Brazilian Thiago Silva was on target in Gor Mahia’s 3-0 victory against Jericho AllStars in a friendly played on Wednesday

Meddie Kagere, the 2015 Gor Mahia fans darling and Brazilian Thiago Silva were instrumental for the club against lower league side Jericho AllStars in a friendly played on Wednesday.

Kagere delivered vital passes which could have widened Gor Mahia’s victory over the minnows while the Brazilian striker, who has been under assessment for a few weeks, registered his name on the score-sheet in the 70th minute after new signing Baron Jobita and lead striker Jaques Tuyisenge had scored the first two goals in the first half.

Jericho AllStars could have managed a consolation in the 75th minute but Jerim Onyango was keen on goal to easily pick Edd Kuria’s penalty-kick confirming the 3-0 victory for the Kenyan champions. K’Ogalo were using the match as a fitness test ahead of their Kenyan Premier League match against Thika United on Sunday (July 3).

Only time will tell if Meddie Kagere will be confirmed at Gor Mahia after the job was left to the club’s head coach Ze Maria to decide whether he rejoins the club or not. With barely three days to the transfer window closure, the club is also yet to officially confirm Thiago Silva’s fate after it was reported that he will not be signed.

Thiago Lima da Silva is gone

Brazilian striker Thiago Lima da Silva has jetted out and is headed back home after failing to impress the Gor Mahia technical staff.

The much touted striker left fans who watched his training session unimpressed from the first time he stepped on the field. Opinions did not shift when he appeared in a friendly against Naivas.

An official confirmed to goal.com that Da Lima has indeed left.

“It is quite unfortunate, but it is true, the club has opted against signing him because he is not what we expected. He has failed to impress the coaches from day one, and that is why he is leaving. It means we will go for another striker.

While some media outlets are ridiculing Gor Mahia for creating yet another Brazilian fiasco, the club has not done anything wrong. It is prudent for a club to conduct trials of a player as well as fitness tests during the transfer window while leaving enough time to sign alternate players. Such was the case with Giovanni Rodriguez Bissolli in 2011 and now Da Silva.

Meanwhile Meddie Kagere has indeed jetted back into the country to discuss returning to the club he left in December.

However Gor Mahia coach Ze Maria appears unwilling to bring Kagere back.

“I know Kagere was here and he did well but I do not believe in déjà vu. We do not have guarantee that he will shine like he did in his first stint,” the coach told Daily Nation.

However the club EC is pushing for Kagere to return.
“It’s true we are interested in resigning him. He is here and we will see how talks progress.” said Ronald Ngala

Gor Mahia uncertain over Thiago Lima Da Silva

The much vaunted acquisition of Brazilian Thiago Lima Da Silva appears to have come a cropper. According to Ngala, head coach Jose Fereira has expressed concerns over the player’s fitness as the striker has not featured in competitive football for long and has requested for more time to monitor the player closely. He is expected to give his report over his assessment of the Brazilian on Tuesday 21 June, a feedback that will guide the club on whether to sign the player or explore other options.

“The coach has expressed some concerns over his fitness levels. He has been out of action for long and is not in proper shape to play at the moment. The coach requested for more time to look at him and we are expecting a feedback next Tuesday. If the coach thinks it will take longer for him to be ready to play then we will have to look for other options” said Ngala according to futaa.com

Thiago Lima who had already been nicknamed as “Thigo” after the legendary high priest of Gor Mahia football Allan Thigo. However he has not proven worthy of that name either in training or during his appearance against Naivas. And the Macau League where he scored 15 goals is several notches lower than the Kenya premier league.

If this deal falls through, it will be the second time Gor Mahia has failed to do due diligence on a Brazilian player. In 2012, another Brazilian Giovanni Rodriguez Bissolli was also declared unfit by then coach Zdravko Logarusic. Whereas last time Bissoli was recomended by an agent, this time however it was Ze Maria who recommended him.

Gor Mahia will now search for an alternate striker. Fans wanted Meddie Kagere back. But that is complicated by the fact that Kagere may already be in negiotiations with arch rivals Ingwe and by the fact that Aucho’s move to Glasgow Rangers is not complete.

When asked why he chose Da Silva instead of Kagere, Ze Maria had earlier said he did not think that the Rwandese striker would repeat his success from 2015.

You know Kagere had a good history here at the club but that wouldn’t have repeated itself when I refer to the past. Kaka did well at AC Milan but when he returned, he didn’t replicate his earlier shows. Ibrahimovic (Zlatan), Beckham (David) both suffered the same, it’s not easy for these things to repeat themselves in the world of football, I am not discrediting Kagere, he is a good player but this would have been difficult on his side,

“We need other things, new energies in the squad. Thiago is a new player who has a good reason to do well because he is on the continent for the very first time. He has quality, a strong player and hope he will get time to demonstrate that for the team,” Ze Maria said.
