Gor Mahia has suspended club Secretary General Sam Ochola, over gross insubordination.
Gor Chair Ambrose Rachier, who made the announced at the 680 Hotel in Nairobi on Tuesday evening, said Ochola will cease from handling any club activities indefinitely.
The chairman also revealed that the decision to suspend the official has the blessings of ODM leader Raila Odinga, who is the club patron.
Sports Plug understands that Ochola has been suspended over his handling of the club’s row with the Football Kenya Federation.

Whereas the club has refused to reach an agreement with FKF over a broadcast deal with Startimes, Ochola went behind Rachier’s and wrote to Startimes agreeing to the deal.

“We Gor Mahia FC, members of FKF, are cognizant that on September 29, 2020, FKF entered into a media rights and commercial rights agreement [the agreement] with StarTimes [Kenya] Company Limited to be the exclusive broadcaster of the FKF Premier League for seven seasons [2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25, 2025-26 and 2026-27],” reads part of the letter sent to FKF on Tuesday.

The club has maintained that it knows its rights and it will not sign any document surrendering thoses rights to FKF.

    Tower of Babel.
Rachier can’t work with an office of eleven or an office of 4.
He kicked out Nyangi as not educated enough to be a Gor official but she is competent enough to be head of delegation to Rwanda.

Sam Ochola stood no chance he was the only independent official after Rachier’s choice opted out. Wasuna and Dolfina are Rachier’s endorsees.

I support the suspension, I may not agree with Rachier on some issues but Ocholla cannot just sign away the clubs rights just for of afew minutes of ectasy(fame).
Let him stay far away from the club and never come back.
The other clubs can afford their rights as they have no crowds so it makes no difference to them. This is not same with Gor.
How much is the Star Times worth in terms of Gor home matches. Ocholla should not just look at the money in the basket without thinking of it’s implications.

What is the issue Rachier is complaining about?
Please explain this to me. In the EPL, all teams get the same amount of TV revenue regardless of how many fans they have. The same happened when KPL was televised by Supersport. Why does Rachier think Kenya should be different?

  • As much as Ador has flaws on this one he his very right everywhere in the world of soccer teams never receive flat rate cash it is normally decided by the influence the team has in the football world , let him stay where he wants but leave kogalo alone , the team is struggling to raise funds yet one is taking a poor deal to gain fame

There is too much drama in this team. Every year, every month there is off the field drama. We are tired. We want peace.

    Copied,
From any angle you would like to view it, there is no way AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia FC can get the same share amount of Broadcast rights as other KPL clubs.

I know when Nick Mwendwa went to negotiate with StarTimes, the two named clubs dominated the conversation and Mashemeji Derby was part of his bargaining tools. How do you expect Bidco FC and Gor Mahia FC to earn the same amount in broadcast rights?

Even in Laliga, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have never earned the same amount in media rights. In 2018/2019 season, Barcelona earned £166.5 million, Real Madrid 155.3M and Atletico Madrid £119.2M. Small clubs like Leganes, Huesca and Rayo Valecano got something below £50M.

In English Premier League, they give equal share of £31.8 million but clubs still get merit payments based on the club valuation during the season. In 2019/2020 season, Liverpool got additional £35.5 merit payments, Man city got £33.8M, Man U £32, Chelsea £30.2. Teams like Norwich and Watford didn’t even get more than £4 million.

Mwendwa should just swallow his pride and bring both parties to the table and have a mature conversation ama hii deal ya StarTimes will back fire on him. Alafu huyu Shikanda pia awache kupata excitement na hizi pesa kidogo!

Kenya Premier League is about AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia. There is no broadcast deal without any of the two clubs. There is no broadcast deal without Masheji Derby.

If Rachier has a better deal “media rights deal” then let him put it on the table.

Players & TB are again on a go slow because of non payment yet Rachier is rejecting a readymade deal on the table.
We need to get to the CAF CL group stage and bag the prize money of kes.55m (US $550,000) just four matches away.

Rachier the club with attract better media rights by winning on the pitch instead of chest thumping in the boardroom.

Money for Gor Mahia and football is in CAF CL. Rachier get your priorities RIGHT.

Why is it anyone who wants transparency and accountability at Gor Mahia is demonized and fired?

    1) Pollack signed his sacking letter when he identified only 4/ 5 locally based players to beef up his squad. The cartel went to work “juu na chini” until he gave up.

    2) SG Ochola dug his grave when he demanded that “the team’s management to furnish him with all audited financial statements for the past three years to ascertain whether there was transparency and accountability in usage of club funds”.

    3) Where does Raila come in on this issue, Sam Ochola was elected just as was Rachier. Raila’s name was not even on the voters register which was made public. Only an SGM can remove Sam Ochola.

    4) What media rights are people yapping about? Players are on a go slow yet Sam Ochola and EC have the Startimes deal worth 8 million with 2 million payable on signing.
If Ador has a better deal then SHOW US THE MONEY!
Why the secrecy and opaqueness in operation and deals involving the club?

    5) Wasuna and Jolawi as members of the technical committee go unpunished for the debacle of hiring Oliveira while SG Sam Ochola is punished for looking for funds to pay players and TB, that ADOR’s way.

I support the free thinking, independent and transparent Sam Ochola. Stand firm for the benefit of the club.

7 years at 4 million a season is the issue. A club of Gor Mahia stature should earn at least 30 million per season from that broad cast deal. 4 million can be good money for Nzoia Sugar but not even a pocket change for Gor Mahia. To put this into perspective, how many people will turn on Startimes to watch Nzoia Sugar vs Bidco United? compare that to Gor Mahia verses any team. Clubs should be paid what they are worth. In developed leagues including UEFA Champions league, the money is broken down into four categories
    1. Prize money (Performance in the current season)-25%
    2. Heritage money (Performance in the past ten seasons)-25%
    3. Participation money (equal share among clubs)-25%
    4. Brand value (marketability of the games club is involved)-25%

If at all it is true that Ochola signed the document without consulting the Executive, then he acted ultra vires and the disciplinary action is in order. But then we may not have known all the details of the saga thus I would be slow to judge anyone
