Gor Mahia hopeful despite empty stadium

First Leg action: Ernest Wendo

Over the years Gor Mahia has been heavily reliant on their green army which motivates the players to push themselves harder and inspires the players. For the first time ever, Gor Mahia will be playing an important match with no fans.

“We will have no fans attending the match between Gor Mahia and APR, and it is all because we are adhering to the strict regulations put in place by the Ministry of Health to combat the spread of Covid-19,” said FKF official Barry Otieno to goal.com

But coach Sammy Omollo “Pamzo” is positive that despite the deficit, Gor Mahia will overcome APR. Pamzo is confident that the away goal Gor Mahia scored will prove crucial as Gor Mahia now need a 1-0 win.

“Despite the loss, the boys played well in that game, and they stuck to our game plan,” Omollo told Goal on Monday. “A 2-1 [loss] is not a bad result for us; the important thing is that we scored the important away goal. “The one goal we scored will be very crucial for us in the return leg because now we just need one goal, or even two if possible, to advance.””

On his part, APR coach Adil Errade Mohamed has cautioned his players not to underrate Gor Mahia as they did in the first leg contest.

“I am told that local media reported extensively about the financial difficulties that our opponents are going through and how it had affected their morale because some players had threatened not to play,” Mohamed is quoted by This might have made our players become a little bit complacent but I don’t want to see that attitude in the return leg, we must be very cautious against them and make sure we don’t crack.” he said to the New Times.

Gor Mahia’s performance in this competition has been sub par. Last year, the team started well, beating Aigle Noir of Burundi 5-1 on aggregate before going down to USM Alger of Algeria

Can the Gor Mahia Treasurer & GMAF member Dolfina Odhiambo explain the confusing and dire financial situation at the club?

Rachier also confirmed the club has received half of the money from the sponsor meant for the season.

    *Queries.*

    i) If this is true and the club has received kes.27.5m why were there go slows before the APR game?

ii) Have the players now been paid the salaries up November 2020 and since half the main sponsorship money has been received upfront how will the club survive for the rest of the season?

iii) If the money has already been exhausted, can she explain WHY & HOW?

iv) Are these concerns by SG. Sam Ochola true?

    a) The current treasurer is not a signatory to any of Gor Mahia accounts (Rachier & Ngala have all the mandate)

    b) Players have downed tools due to non-payment of salaries.

    c) Cash withdrawals to the tune of 20.5 Million from the club’s accounts were done behind the Exco and Executive officials knowldege by one Ronald Ngala. Where he took the money to is unknown. Ngala has 48hrs to return the money.
HAS NGALA RETURNED GOR MAHIA’S MONEY?
Was it Betsafe money that Ngala took?

    d) The club is in debt totaling to 120 million.

    e) Chairman used 15 million (personal fund) to recruit and pay new players yet the club does not have any money in the accounts.

**Is the treasurer privy to these transactions and contracts?

**Did the club get value for money spent?

**Is the signing fee kes. 1m per player given that Jolawi & Co. signed about 15 players? Signing fees in major leagues are not a secret.

As the treasurer Dolfina should ensure that GMFC is a going concern, i.e is in a position to pay its obligations in the foreseeable future.

It appears Gor Mahia is is in a financial quagmire and desperately NEEDS TO QUALIFY FOR THE KES. 55 MILLION GROUP STAGE TO GET SOME FINANCIAL RESPITE.

WE NEEDS ASSURANCE FROM THE TREASURER THAT SHE HAS GOR MAHIA FINANCES UNDER CONTROL.

    • The treasurer has already received kes.27.5 million, half the season’s sponsorship from Betsafe, and the club is experiencing serious financial problems already.
How goes she expect the club to cope given that kes.27.5 million is for 17 league games.
We have financial issues yet we have not played a single league match.
Madam Treasurer your abilities regarding financial management, control and budgeting of club affairs are put into question and focus!

Can we contribute the gate charges to support the players as we watch the match on TV.
Problem is will the money reach the players and will the Treasurer/ EC announce the “gate collections”.
