Gor Mahia upbeat ahead of derby

Despite losing to Tusker, Gor Mahia are upbeat ahead of this weekend’s crucial derby. Tusker outplayed Kogalo in all facets of the game. However Logarusic is not bothered.: “We went unbeaten for 21 league matches. We have not lost to AFC Leopards in two years and that gives us an upper hand in terms of confidence,” said Logarusic to the Nation.

Only the defence played well against Tusker. The midfield was out of sorts and teh attack was at sea. A defensive lapse allowed Tusker’s Robert Omunuk a free header that gave Tusker the winner. However Logarusic has vowed to correct these mistakes. “It was a freak goal, but we have learnt a lot from the defeat and we will not make such mistakes again against AFC Leopards or any other game.

“You also realize that we did not start with our regulars in this game. Some players were tired and needed some rest so that they are fit for Sunday. Others like (Anthony) Akumu was just returning from illness.”, said Logarusic to the Nation.

Injuries

Aside from Raphael Kiongera and Innocent Mutiso who are serving long term injuries, Gor Mahia will also have to contend with injuries to Israel Emuge, Rama Salim and Anthony Gathu who picked up a knock against Tusker.

Moses Otieno upset

Coach Logarusic has moved to explain what went down on the bench in the 23rd minute when he was forced to make a substitution when Antoiny Gathu limped off injured. According to michezoafrika.com, Logarusic had told Moses Otieno to warm up after Gathu limped out. Initially, Moses Otieno was supposed to have started but Logarusic changed his mind minutes to the game.

When Logarusic called back Otieno from the warm up area, the midfielder seemed to be taking his time and the coach was angered, with the attitude and instead ordered Antony Akumu to change and warm up, Otieno getting back to his track suit.

“He was emotional because he was supposed to start the match but then I changed my mind moments to the match. I did this because I saw it had rained and then I needed a fast player in midfield. When I told him to come on when Gathu was injured, he took his time and was just not ready for the match,” Logarusic said after the match against Tusker on Wednesday evening.

Otieno has not seen much of play time since Logarusic took over and the latest developments might see him leave K’Ogalo in the June transfer window. Otieno joined Gor Mahia from Tusker in the June transfer window of the 2011 season.

we must play our hearts if we wnt 2 beat mashemejis.they r a wounded cat and if we dont up our game then we should expect a thorough beating frm Efusi. They r beatable but at the same time Luc have not won a single match since he came to Efusi and winning against Gor will give him the confidence to continue winning. So lets not assume that bcos we’ve been beating them then it will be as always. The fact that they lost 2 city stars does not make them a weak team.So I call upon strikers 2 score early goals.

It is high time we stop excuses when we lose a match. It’s like we always know the solution and not going for it. If resting the players was the reason for losing to Tusker and at the same time we expect to be in finals, are we really sincere to ourseves and why should you rest key players when we expect to be at the finals. In other words it suggests we don’t give our best in all matches but expect to win the trophy. SaThis has to change.

Ok, that is now behind us until our second leg on 22-May-2013…for our match against AFC Leopards let Lugarusic try to use flanks to open up the AFC defense so that we can get our traditional 3 goals. All the best.

  • Guys, if we see the way the EPL teams approach the FA and Carling Cups (League Cup) then that’s what Loga tried for the game against Tusker. The non-regular players must be given a chance and if they don’t live up to expectation then it’s a learning for them.
I hope Gauch’s injury is something he can share off for the derby. I have realised that the new players really try to work extra harder than the regulars but what we need to know is that this year the effort we were putting in last year and winning will not do. We need to put extra effort and play with a purpose. Tusker packs a lot of punch in their games and Ulinzi too, including being extra physical. For us we try the soft Barca game which is not working anymore. Even Ingwe puts in alot of effort though all of it is wasted.
On individual players issue I believe Moses Otieno is one of the best ball players in Gor, so composed and was the pillar of the midfield with Gattuso a year ago. How things change. Please let’s not waste the young talent. By the way why do we sacrifice Anguyo by playing him off position yet we have natural midfielders? I’m not Technical but th TB might know something we don’t know.
On the derby we need to show that confidence. The last two games we beat Shemejis were as a result of the Gor family having confidence from the TB, players and fans. I’m sorry to say that this time Ingwe looks and sounds more confident (Maybe because they have nothing to lose) than us but maybe that’s their usual talk and we will do ours on the field

  • Am simply reading this from a different angle, TB is misplacing Anguyo’s role in the team. Anguyo should be in defence thats why he cant make a good midfield with weak ball holding and long passes.

Moses Otieno is the most compost player that plays mind game but always slow which is a fact from TB but this guys morale is fading away since he cant be given an opportunity to try coz years back this guy controlled Gor’s midfield with superb defensive mdfld. He can always replace Antony Akumu.

It is all about the bragging rights and three valuable points at stake. “UBELGIJI Versus UKROATIA” Footnology on show time.
K’ogalo TUKO TAYARI and that what makes me tweak. “DERBY”.

Irrespective of the prevailing circumstances, derby are won not on merit, luck ,possession or current form status but with the team that will have the zeal and strong self belief in themselves. Welcome to the kenyan made and branded A.K.A “EL CLASSICO”.

I HAVE ALL THE CONFIDENCE THAT WE WILL BE DOMINATED IN PLAY BUT ULTIMATELY OUR TACTICALLY APPROACH WILL ENSURE THAT THE THREE POINTS WILL BE OURS TO TAKE HOME AS CHINGWE WILL SMILE ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK. NO TWO WAYS ABOUT THE ISSUE. PERIOD!!

    All the best.
    Big success wishes K’ogallo.

Be careful, beating Ingwe so many times in the past is no guarantee we’ll do it over and over again!

    Lets wait and see.
