Bwana : Criminals posing as fans

courtesy of futaa.com

On Saturday 18 May 2013, several Gor Mahia fans were attacked on their way to town around the Muthurwa Market soon after a tie between K’ogalo and Nairobi City Stars  at the City Stadium that ended 0-0.

As the story goes, an initial set of fans provoked hawkers around the market who then ganged up and attacked other fans streaking from the City Stadium into town, the targeted being those with Gor Mahia jerseys.

Immediacy

After the incidents, Gor Mahia Secretary General George Bwana commented on the unfortunate acts soon after the Club’s Vice Chair Faiz Ochieng released a statement on the same.

Keen Gor Mahia followers, through comments after Bwana and Ochieng’s respective postings, have accused both officials of being in denial that some of their fans are indeed hooligans and looters and their acts on Saturday being the root cause of the Muthurwa chaos.

Bwana still stands his ground on his comments and from his own analysis reiterates that some criminals purport to be Gor Mahia fans, branded in the team jerseys, and is calling on the Police to arrest them with immediacy when they cause such chaos.

Gor Mahia numbers and wave

-Any fan who loots and causes chaos in the streets is a criminal and should be dealt with by the full force of the law, he started off to futaa.com

-Many people have taken advantage of the Gor Mahia numbers and wave, some put on Gor Mahia jerseys but they are criminals. These are people that we urge the security forces to deal with outright there and then when they cause such trouble

Beyond that call, he went on to clarify the footprint of the club and jurisdiction when it comes to managing its fan base

Misdeed

-Our mandate as a club ends at the Stadium and that is why I call upon the Police to step up their role and protect road users and fans after games

-We do not want to see the real Gor fan affected because of the misdeed of a few that have ill motives, he added

During the Muthurwa fracas on Saturday, Gor Mahia’s team bus was stoned, but as confirmed by Bwana earlier, all the five players on board escaped unhurt.

Ati ingo? Wacha mchezo yako, how many times this season have INGWE supporters caused chaos? Go slow man this is a big problem and requires everyone’s sober input if it must be solved.

I cannot support any hooliganism and any body using the name of Gor Mahia to do things other than genuine support must be condemned. I have personally suffered humiliation by these people on my way from the stadium when these same people in their insanity banged on my car from all sides and almost broke the windows and threatened to beat me yet I had just been supporting the team as them. The gang smoking on the Russian side must be checked, where are the ploice? We have spoken here time and again about supporters education but it appears nothing is being done.Sec Bwana, you may say what you think but the fact remains that there are some fans who are very bad. By the way where is your publicity dept? They should be the ones talking coz this is a matter of great public concern.

If something is not done and very soon I can see what happened at Muthurwa being replicated not just in Nairobi but elsewhere, remember last year in LUANDA? And Nakuru? Someone has said here that a “sirkal” supporter urinated on a hawkers vegetables, can you imagine that? It is a tragedy in waiting. WHO WILL SAVE THIS GREAT CLUB?

  • Ingolet, Am sure there even persons on death row who are K’galo fans. That how popular Mighty K’galo is.
As Bwana says let the police do their job outside but Bwana WHO WILL ARREST THE BHANG SMOKERS IN THE STADIAS. THESE HOOLIGANS SMOKE WEED FOR 90 MINS WHILE EC hires ineffective stewards instead of police.
BOTH THE EXECUTIVE COMMUNITY AND POLICE ARE CULPABLE BUT WHEN CRIME IS COMMITTED(BE IT INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE STADIUM) THE BUCK STOPS WITH THE POLICE.
ITS AN OPEN SECRET THAT FOR TWO YEARS BHANG IS BEING SMOKED DURING K’GALO MATCHES WHAT MORE INTELLIGENCE DOES POLICE NEED. ARRESTS AND PROSECUTION WILL SOLVE THIS ISSUE IN NO TIME, BUT I SOMETIMES THINK K’GALO IS A SCAPEGOAT FOR MYSETRIOUS AGENDAS WITH FOOTBALL BEING THE FURTHEREST FROM STAKEHOLDERS HEARTS APART FROM FANS.

  • Hooliganism MUST be condemned at all costs but why should i (a peace loving Gor supporter) be attacked because of actons of others???????

Guys i think we should not allow our fundamental freedoms to be taken away…right to self defence, right of association, freedom f speech etc… If these hawkers are men, why not wait for next game and attack again we see….

Political songs should ne chanted by any one who feels so… freedom of expression…

Having said that, lets not infringe the rights of others but at the same time let people know that if you attack Gor fans, they have right to self defence

Any criminal attack of whatever kind is an offence and can not be tolerated. Fans and players who were attacked on Sat did nothing wrong to the whowkers even if they were singing strange songs. If whowkers were wronged by a section of some fans before, why couldn’t they deal with them at that time? What complicates the matter is that even passangers and pedistrians using the route were being attacked. These whokers should be arrested and intarogated to give clear reasons why they perfomed such an act. Let them be honnest and say the truth. If their property are being looted there are proper steps to be followed to end the vice. What they did on sat, how is it going to solve their problem? It is true we have rude fans in Gor but we can not ignore the fact that there are criminals who take advantage of every possible situation to meet their goals. Even inside the church they pretend to be faithfuls. Singing songs and going to Tom mboya meuselium should not be an issue here.

  • It is unfortunate that Bwana seems to be running away from the problem but that aside this is not Bwana’s problems alone but football’s family as whole, all right minded football stakeholders from soka managers to the fans should be involved to come up with a lasting solution, infact even wananchi should be concerned since soka jersey are worn by all @ingo our fans have misbehaved 3 times thus far that tells u we also have the rotten mangoes in our basket

What is so hard in the EC engaging law enforcers in and around the stadium on match days to curb this escalating incidences of hooliganism?

and what is so hard in the EC putting mechanism into place to arrest troublemakers?

What will stir the EC and the security forces into taking action?

It is not fair that the same people we harass after a game, are the same people we look for on a Monday to transport us to work, they are the same people we buy our groceries from, they are the same people who repair our torn shoes, sew our torn clothes etc etc. Please let us respect other peoples property and lives…the 2 things that are more important than football by far!!!

  • OUR SECURITY CAN NEVER BE NEGOTIATED

The recent outburst by General Bwana in defence of his earlier positions cannot pass unchallenged. For newcomers, GB has more than once stated that those causing violence in our games are not Gor Mahia fans but criminals disguised in the club jersey.

The Secretary General in all instances after making press statement continue with own duties as if nothing happened. This is how casual our officials treat this matter. They don’t care to find out how many of our fans got injured and the extent of the injuries. This fact finding mission will help the club find ways to help the fans foot hospital bills.

These injuries and even death have ocurred inside the stadium and nothing happens. It is now clear the current club administration does not want to take collective responsibility for their inaction.

I am not therefore convinced by General Bwana’s answers. Instead it is only a public relations exercise. We would like to see our officials swing into action to avert what many of my comrades are predicting.

    I propose, with immediate effect the following raft of actions;

    1. Disband all post match victory lap to the late TM statue on Moi Avenue,Nairobi.

    2. Ban all chants and jerseys with political conotation inside and outside the stadium.

    3. Arrest all found in possession bhang. Bhang is a banned substance in Kenya.

    4. Operationalise e- ticketing and season tickets

    5. Create a buffer zone between fans from rival clubs

    6. Increase and train more security stewards

    7. Provide pre -match and mid -match entertainment

    8. All fans must be registered through branches

    9. Ensure fans do not make movements away from their seats. Most of these violence is started by cheering squads making rounds on the stadium.

  • The only thing that will instill disipline in us will be when we see on prime time news a Gor/Ingwe fan jailed for six months PLUS a fine on top. Such a person will lose their job (if they have any), be expelled from school if a student, their family will suffer if they are the bread winner etc etc. We must make it painful to be hooligan and have examples in our midst how hooliganism doesn’t pay. As fans we should also desist from interfering with the police when they are doing their work. When the Ingwe goon was arrested for disrupting the Chemelil game non other than fans fought the police for his freedom. What message was sent then?

Dan wewe ndio umenena, lets not prevent the police from doing there work,am waiting to see one day someone In the court charged for not less than 6months without a fine, this is what can bring discipline on these pple,i still maintain there is nothing EC can do on pple looting on the streets mascarading as GOR fans celebrating a win or protesting a lose, even if we talk about the security we provide as a club can not do anything and u pple knw that,av u pple never see how these security u pple say r being pelted with stones when they go to bring some order on the urusi side? nw tell me if those are the pple u want to help us fight these hooligans,hw many of u av sitted on the urusi side? some of these pple av live pistol with them, last year a friend who is a policeman told me that some of those pple av live fire arms,so aresting them needs a very elaborate plan not by the Gor security bt the gava,Ec CAN DO NOTHING ON THIS I STILL n i still insist POLICE MUST TAKE CHARGE
