Lets Wish Zico all the best

Zedekiah Otieno “Zico” is in the process of joining Sony Sugar as head coach to replace Mike Baraza. He was Gor Mahia coach for two seasons having been first hired as a technical advisor to work with Gideon Ochieng “Agido”. Ochieng was later dismissed under acrimonious circumstances and much to the chagrin of many Kogalo fans.

Zico’s first year was succesful, leading Gor Mahia to the second position in the league, the highest that Gor Mahia had achieved in almost 10 years. However cracks started to appear mid season. There were unconfirmed rumours of some players being victimized. However no player has come forward to substantiate said rumours.

However when Gor Mahia went through a stretch of poor results, it became apparent that Zico’s place in the technical bench was untenable. This is the natural order of the day in football. A coach can be succesful at the beeginning. But opposing teams soon adapt and figure out how to confront that coach’s tactics. If the coach does not continuously adapt to new tactics , he will find himself loosing. This came to the fore in the case of Kogalo when even bottom teams like Congo United brazenly declared that they knew how to beat Gor Mahia and followed through by doing exactly that. Adapting to new tactics is not always easy which is why most teams including the biggest European teams change coaches every three or so years. Astute coaches like Mourinho also understand that there comes a time that a coach has to leave and seek new pastures.

With this in mind, we wish Zico happy trails at SoNy Sugar or wherever his next coaching assignment will take him.

Good riddance. Go and destroy careers of good footballers in Sony FC.

ZD kila la heri. I have confidence that you can make it elsewhere. Who knew Sammy Omollo Pamzo would be decorated the way he is today. Like it is written in the Holy scriptures, “the stone that was rejected by the builders became the corner stone”. You can do it. For God and my club Kogallo

While zico may be very unpopular i thinks its prudent to wish him well coz there are also good things he did during his tenure in the club his only failure to me was not capturing the title. As for careers i dont agree at all that he is a career destroyer but only uses players who suit his game plan and this is the norm with most coaches in kenya.

  • kwaheri Zico kila la heri uendapo,we will never forget you as an overlapping defender during your playing days for Kogalo ,among the best in your generation and the last captain to win the premier league, kicking you out of coaching kogalo was not personal it was strictly business.
its quite refreshing to hear about the new signing from Mombasa and with it comes the memory of the great GorMahia teams REMEMBER Magongo, Swaleh Oswayo ,ABDALLA Shebe etc its exciting and i hope it will live to its billing.

I almost got into depression when the Standard wrote early this week that he had been retained as Technical Director. His clouds hanging around would have caused further acrimony. We wish him all the best at SoNY, so that he never comes back. I wonder if his unruly gang who pelted Supersport with stones and bottles (such an archaic behaviour) will move with him, would be such a joy.

First of all I must congratulate you for winning a new coaching role at SONY.

As the bible puts it, there is always time for everything. Your time at the club you so much love and cherish has finally come to an end. For the time you’ve been with the club, you have have given your best, never mind what your detractors has labeled you. In the 2010 KPL season, K’ogalo finished in second in the table standing.

As you begin a new life at Sony, I do hope you will carry the same zeal and determination.
I wish you all the best.
