K”Ogalo treasurer Ominde reveals to Goal that participation in Africa’s biggest competition – Champions League – will significantly increase their budget
Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia will need close to Sh100million for their campaign next season.
The club will represent the country in next year’s Africa Champions League tournament apart from defending the local title.
Speaking during a luncheon hosted for the club, treasurer Samuel Ominde said participation in Africa’s biggest competition will significantly increase their budget and appealed to well-wishers to come on board and assist the club.
“Our budget for the domestic season is Sh65million. We get only Sh15million from the gates and another Sh29million from our sponsors. The rest we have to raise from well-wishers.
“Going for continental tournament means we will need more money because honoring one match costs about Sh5million which means we will need more money,” Ominde told Goal.
He further added that the club will need even more money to hire players who can help them navigate the murky waters of continental football.
Speaking at the luncheon, Gor Semalang’o the chairman of the youth enterprise fund and who hosted the team, warned fans of the club against hooliganism. He said this is the reason most corporates may not want to associate with the club.
“We are proud of what the club has achieved this season. Their win will no doubt attract sponsors but we urge the fans to exercise caution as they celebrate. Any untoward behavior will work negatively for the club.”
He hinted that the club may be hosted at State House and promised to follow up on the same. Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson said the players deserve to have won the 2013 title pointing out that they worked hard for it.
Hiyo pesa mnatumikia kununua luncheon simunge save? Kidogo kidogo hujaza kibaba
Mr Ingo, I feel you are just a busybody obsessed with giving comments just for the sake of it! We must appreciate what Gor has achieved after a drought of 19 years. Always look before you leap!
That Gormahia treasurer Mr.Ominde should be the first guy we kick out of office ,what does he mean when he says the team collects an annual gate collection of only 15million a year or am i over reacting guys.
somebody correct me.
Don’t bother with ingo huyo ni fan wa ingwe but he is madly in love with kogalo let him be.
The current office needs overhaul how can a treasurer say Gormahia needs well wishers when he has the masses coming to the stadia he should find a way to ensure that collection reach the club like avoiding cash handling let me try to help….Go mahia should publish its account numbers to the fans such that the fans go to the bank and bank the ticket fees which in this event should be raised by ksh.50 to take care of the banking fees then they carry the banking slips to get tickets which must never be sold during match days, in this way no one carries cash for the tickets but money is already in the bank….i stand corrected most companies do that this days or kogalo could work with safaricom to come up with something to avoid money changing hands Kenyans are horrible with money kila siku tutaiba .
100 million is a lot of cash…..detailed info.is needed we have 2 be prepared koz champions lig is not a joke wish Kogalo well.
VOTE Barefoot Bandit 4 GM chairman. Yes am serious. This esteem blogger has provided a practical/cheap solution to the hooliganism menace. Since 4 some strange reason both the 2 & 4 legged police officers wont act EC shld simply put up billboards of these hooligans(savages/human waste) at stragetic places. Pictures of them invading the pitch, consuming blue moon vodka, attacking players etc will stop them DEAD in their tracks.
Then with security gauranteed we will have:
1.Home games attendance…
15k fans per game say @ ksh.200=Ksh.3M/match x 15 TPL games only is ksh. 45M.
2. Recruit 20K fans(in exchange of ownership) paying Ksh.600/year in advance 2 raise Ksh.12M. Transparency & maintaining an accurate permanent electronic register r KEY.
3. Tuzo is giving 29M
So 45+12+29=ksh.86M but instead of thinking & being proactive Ominde & fellow EC would rather omba, omba.
Merchandizing another main source of revenue being mismanaged by EC.
If BB’s idea is implemented & hooliganism….
then why not elect him chairman coz neither AR, bloated EC has come up with an innovative practical idea that has the potential of raising in millions as a riple effect.
But the catch is almost ALL of the current EC nid these hooligans(with chaotic 100bob membership) cum election day 2 win their posts.
We r heading towards a prolonged ban by CAF unless BB’s idea is implemented NOW.
Btw how I wish bloggers had formed their branch 2 implement the effective/practical ideas articulated here.
why shld the club think of an long term investment to help generate such incomes in future, dependn on well wishers is so uncertain
why complain about a 100 million bill when you are so ready to pay huge fines arising from destruction from hooliganism???
Stamp out the vice and you will attract more sponsors and fans and we shall raise the monies we need!!but as long as we bury our heads in the sand in regard to hooliganism,we shall struggle to raise that amount!!
As a start to get the 100m we need to have a steady income flow since depending on gate collections can be disastrous since it’s pegged on performance and the impact of hooliganism. Whoever attends gor matches will notice that if we lose or struggle in some games the attendance falls.
The best thing as suggested by @ODUOR12 is to have a steady fan base who will be paying membership fee of say 5,000 per year. If we get 20k fans then we get the cool 100m or of we get 10K we get 50m. That should be the way to go. And this 5k can even get the fan a season’s ticket for all GM home games.
The elephant in the room is still the GOONS who want to ‘protect’ gor in everyway possible by destroying the brand image and also not even contributing by paying the entrance fee. During the KCB match tehy got 2.2m yet they could have gotten more. Some gor fans were very active creating passages in the fences for their friends free entry. As someone says we have to get rid of this ROTTEN lot for us to hit our full potential
Guys let Ingo be. When we say “gigi wasekawo” that “gigi” includes even the man Ingo. @Ingo there are strong indicators that in be wasekawi.
For sustainability of Gor Mahia is not a far fetched idea. A year ago Oduor12 proposed the great 5/- per day per fan idea. To me, there is no better, practical way of community responsibility than that.
As Oduor12 states; if only the bloggers’ branch was registered and alive then we could undertake the initiative of posting images of the savages on prominent billboards in major cities and villages. Not even a savage would want to portray herself or himself adversely in the eyes of her/his in-laws.
HERE IS HOW TO RAISE KSHS 100 MILLION —–
1.SEASON TICKETS -20,000 * 200 = kshs 4,000,000.00
2. TUZO DEAL ( gold sponsor ) – 1 year = Kshs 29,000,000.00
3. Gate collections ( additional from ticket holders 0 = 10,000*250 -= Kshs 2,500,000.00
4. Annual membership contribution from branches across the country = kshs 10,000,000.00
5. Merchandise,marketing and other materials = Kshs 10,000,000.00
6.earnings from participation in KPL and other tournaments = Kshs 5,000,000.00
7. Revenues from GOR tv digital channel – Kshs 15,000,000.00
8. Introduce silver and bronze sponsors category to complement TUZO ( Gold) = Kshs 25,000,000.00
THERE YOU HAVE YOUR KSHS 100 MILLION !!!!!!! PLEASE CALL ME IF YOU NEED TO SET UP THE STRUCTURES TO GENERATE THIS MONEY, FOR THE LOVE OF THE CLUB I WILL OFFER THIS SERVICES FOR FREE, ABSOLUTELY FREE !!!!!
The EC states that they need 100 million to properly finance the club’s activities next season. What they are not telling us is how they arrived at this figure.
I propose that preparation for continental assignment should begin immediately. Preparation should be spearheaded by a committee formed by the EC in conjuction with all branches of gor mahia. This committee should be mandated to raise funds for the club by first coming up with a budget. It should also be given the mandate to market the club to potential sponsors but damage control measures should be put in place before this process begins.
Just a proposal bloggers, give me your views.
All I know is that Gor will participate in the champions league. Money will just come, no doubt about that. We tend to have a lot of text book ideas and figures we cannot even support. I know that running a club of Kogallo’s caliber is not a child’s play as most of us would want to believe. Those who think that there is money EC siphon’s from the club should vie for the positions and we see if they can do better that the team currently in office. We accuse EC left right and centre, yet no one has any tangible evidence on anything. Let us learn to appreciate. If this EC was as corrupt as some of us may want us to believe, could we have gone this far? I doubt. How do you evaluate performance? At the beginning of the season, the target was to win the KPL. Haven’t that been achieved? I do not know of any player who’s salary has not been paid up to date. The club has not failed to honor any fixture due to lack of money. What then are we complaining about?
You do not change a winning team, therefore I throw my weight behind AR and the team. Congratulations are in order for the job well done.
For God and my beloved club – Kogallo.
Isn’t it too convinient to throw up numbers without proper explanations of how they are arrivied at. When the treasurer says 100 million, does this include going all the way to the final in the AFCON or exit in the first round.
When he says “raise the money from well wishers”, who does he have in mind, what is the past success of this method of fundraising.
it would also be nice if he presented the club accounts from the past year so everyone can see how well they spent the money last season.
N.B. Did i read somewhere that K’Ogalo spent 800,000 on Sundays celebrations, that figure sounds abit over the top, is this the way they want to spend the 100 million that the treasurer is asking for?
No hard feelings mr. Kosero, i suppose you are not loosing your cool. Let’s deliberate without raising temperatures. Let’s not be judged as a people who get agitated by the slighetest provokation, its a tag we must shake off joka NYANAM. Let’s not be seen as a violent lot.
After all we all LOVE gormahia.
Be blessed men!
I support Albert Kosero on the EC. Since AR was elected there has been huge progress at GM. Congratulations are in order. However, there is still room for improvement especially in raising revenue. I haven’t seen the EC’s masterplan but I think our strength lies in numbers; CONSTRUCTIVE NUMBERS.
When we stop the “jogo chiemo” mentality then we may be able to financially exploit our numbers to sustain our club.
By the way, who knows the total number of true GM fans in Kenya? 2M, 1M, 500K or 100K. If each gives 50bob per month………?
