Former Gor Mahia goalkeeper Ivo Mapunda, currently with Tanzanian side Simba SC, has come out to explain his departure from the Kenyan Premier League champions.
According to the player, he wanted to renew his deal with the club, but could not get audience with the club’s senior heads to work out on the same.
“Many publications have written that I turned down Gor Mahia’s money, but truth be told, the club’s officials did not make it easy for me to renew my deal after it expired in December,” said Mapunda.
“By the time of my departure there were too many internal wrangles at the club and this made it difficult for me to stay there since I did not know who would pay me was I to get a new deal. The elections were around the corner and each official was focused on his own campaigns. Getting any of them to listen to me proved difficult. It was, therefore, a blessing when Simba came knocking and I am glad they gave me a good offer,” he said.
Mapunda, well-known for his prowess in taming penalties, was one of the instrumental players in Gor’s winning of the league title.
Gor Mahia have yet to recruit a replacement for Mapunda.
Clubs can now field 5 foreigners
Gor Mahia Funs line on being frisk into Nyayo Stadium entrance during League match. Kenya Premier League clubs will now be allowed to field five foreign players in any match during the 2014 league campaign.
Initially, local clubs were only allowed to register five players but field three in any given competitive match. “We have ratified the rule and now clubs can sign five foreign players and field similar number in a single match,” KPL’s CEO Jack Oguda said yesterday.
This move comes two months after country’s top sides Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards’ wrote to Football Kenya Federation requesting for a change in the rules regarding signing of foreign players.
The two clubs in a joint letter demanded that the quota of foreign players be increased to at least eight from current three. Both sides will represent the country in continental football next season and wanted to be given a chance to bolster their squads while at the same time felt the rule inhibited their ability to sign top players.
Gor Mahia, the Kenyan Premier League champions, will represent the country in African Champions League with Leopards’ taking part in Confederations Cup.
“The current rule restricting us to signing only three foreign players needs to be changed because at continental level, we are going to compete with teams that probably field all foreign players putting us at a disadvantage. The rule should either be abolished or the quota increased to eight players,” stated the letter signed by both clubs.
Really what can one say but 2 emphasize/repeat the need 4 structures, structures, structures.
When will we PUT FOOTBALL FIRST IN GM SO THAT ITS THE MAPUNDAS WHO GET PRIORITY NOT THE RACHIERS/ADEDES.
TWAS A BIG MISTAKE 4 FKF 2 LET CURRENT EXECUTIVE COMMUNITY CONTINUE IN OFFICE. THAT ACTION RENDERED CLUB MEMBERS IRRELEVANT.
THERE’S AN URGENT NEED 4 AN SGM. THE DAY BWANA SAID 13 PLAYERS WOULD LEAVE GM I SMELT A RAT.
When Bwana & Ominde opted out their deputies shld have taken over, YAWA AR YAWA
Allow me 2 suggest that in addition 2 reducing the size of the bloated EC the elective positions(ideally directors) should fall vacant by rotation as is done in limited companies. E.g one AGM should be 2 elect the chairman & secretary 2 serve 4 two years & the next AGM 2 elect the vice & treasurer. Also i think the branches through their chairmen should have a recognized committee that controls the electoral process has a say in times such as these not FKF & certainly not Nyamweya.
Mapunda, good luck to you. A keeper of your calibre probably deserves to be in the starting line up of a big team like Simba.
For Kogalo, they need to hurry up and find a replacement keeper before the January 15 deadline.
Why can’t GM go for a proven GK of Mapunda’a class like Bonny of tursker? Just a thought.
Apparently we have settled for Juma of Western Stima. Perhaps he is better than Bonny. As Dan Original says the EC and TB must be knowing something which us fans and bloggers don’t know.
we love u ivo , but please u have left to simba , concentrate there , dnt put more garbages in our house , which we are struggling to cleaned now , you had plans of joining ur former coach loga , so take it easy and move forward . telling us the whole story will not make any change in kogallo,s life and more so to you .dont let every single player joining kogallo to start thinking twice , we have so much respect for you .
Boring bloggers
