Williamson happy with good start

Gor Mahia head coach Bobby Williamson was just happy to see his charges open their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title defence with a 2 – 0 win in the clash against Nairobi City Stars on Thursday 20 February at the Nairobi City Stadium.

Ugandan duo of Danny Sserunkuma and Geoffrey Kizito got the goals in the clash and speaking afterwards, the Scot acknowledged that winning the opening game is always great for the players’ motivation and gives them good momentum forging forward.

Good start

With the champions set to take on the 2008 KPL champions Mathare United, he said all attention shifts to the game on Sunday.

-It was a good start; it is always good for the players’ momentum if you start with a win and for us it is also important because previously the opening matches have not been delivering the desired results so I am happy with today’s result.

-Three points are in the bag, now attention shifts to Mathare United, he said.

The clash against Mathare United will be staged at the Machakos Stadium as from 1615hrs.

Rachier: Tuzo withdrawal will affect us

K’ogalo chairman Ambrose Rachier reveals to Goal that shirt sponsors Tuzo will not renew their contract and says this will negatively affect the club

Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has admitted that the club will suffer financially once shirt sponsors pull the trigger next month.

Rachier says their sponsors give them at least Sh2million per month to pay salaries for players and technical bench and the absence of this will adversely affect the club.

This development comes barely one and half weeks after Goal exclusively revealed that Tuzo will not renew the one year sponsorship.

“We have now been informed from the highest level that Tuzo will not renew their sponsorship next month. We get about Sh2million from them every month and the move is therefore, likely to affect us in a big way,” he told Goal.

“The 2014 season requires a huge budget not only for the payment of players’ salaries, but also for the Confederation of African Football’s (Caf) Champions League which is a very expensive campaign. “We urgently need a sponsor. At the moment, we need Sh15 million to honour the forthcoming Caf fixtures. We are already running into huge amounts of debt incurred at the just-concluded preliminaries against US Bitam.”

Gor Mahia are in need of a major financial boost considering that they are taking part in both KPL and Champions League.

The immediate reaction is to tap membership contributions. We have over a month to do this. Whether it’s a SACCO or any other a/c, please move quickly and inform us of where to deposit our contributions. We can raise upto Kes 50m in the next month. And the kitty will grow. Just as we’ve had one game at a time to win the championship, we engage into another gear, one thousands shillings at a time. Until we have enough money to run Gor. There is no sponsor coming soon, you have let the hooligans soil our prestigious name for ever.

the game was nice, but in my own opinion our midfield is not creative enough,if one might care to not akumu and kizito are very much defensive minded such that even if the ball is ours instead of opening up they always drift towards opponents thats why we result to long balls, kudos to wanyonyi always wanting to play the ball.kizito/akumu if you guys can get it right you can be one of the best mid in kpl

Serious matters first: let hooligans be arrested and taken to jail, we simply cannot keep up with them because like yesterday, SS did not air the match due to these shameless shenanigans: Joluo have class & swagg not being chased with tear gas I saw jana

The officials were elected on their promise to use their brains to inspire Gor.Put Luo Nyanza politicians on notice that apart frm politics there is Gor.If it goes down for luck of cash, lets give them send off package to go & rest.Jakom should also put his heart in Gor.If he can find donors to fund a Presidential campaign then cant he do the same for Gor? Mr Chairman, whats the roadmap? Accountability is also a must if u have to deal with us.

Tom Ochieng, Rachier should be asking the government to help him fight hooliganism. He should ask for help everyday. Look where we r now. Anyway where’s that Sacco a/c? Again he should react quickly. We need to send money ASAP. Let’s get started, u’ll be surprised how much true Gor fans can contribute in a month.

Sponsorship is very very necessary for any club. I think the EC should look for other options other than crying over spilt milk. Sponsorship from fans is good but very unreliable.

We need to do alot of housekeeping first before thinking of inviting cooperates or individuals to help out financially.

What we witnessed yesterday at the stadium was a total disgrace.I expected the new office to be more organized in terms of ticketing, pricing, crowd control at the point of entry and exit….but no..same old same old.

At this rate what are our expectations for the season?am not sure if we even have that in place in regard to the above…..its a shame really!!

Have also bought Tuzo milk even if the counter price is higher than other brands I believe most of you equally do.Does it mean then that as from March we should stop buying Tuzo. They can not slap us at our face when we most need them.

As much as we have a punching bag of hooligans to blame for this Tuzo pull out. Is it really hooligans per se to blame for the pull out?

For me honestly, Tuzo have not put in the open their reasons for their action and we are all at guesswork as to the main reason,it may also be financial impropriety from GM management.

All in all the EC will have to work on ways and means forward.

@Voice of the Unknown. There is no need for tit for tat. Tuzo has been of great help and we must be thankful. As such I will always buy their products for what they have done to Gor. I will always wear their T Shirts. They have taken GM far and they deserve a pat on their back. Like I said earlier, those who have worked with or for Gor Mahia must always be given a place in our hearts. Let us not be people who will direct abuses at them Siang’a,Zico, Njuguna, Tuzo, Kasaya etc when they come around.

Let no one lie to us that GM can survive and win the league without a proper corporate sponsor. Kenyan football has changed. Gor only started competing with Sofapaka, Ulinzi, Tusker, KCB etc after Tuzo came on board. Try to go without sponsors and forget Williamson, Blackberry, Walusimbi, Kizito, Calabar etc in your teamsheets or technical area!!

Bloggers, sponsors leave because of so many reasons. One of them could be bad publicity. Remember Tiger Woods with his scandals, Tusker stopped sponsoring the Annual Sevens tournament as well as Golf. So TUZO could be pulling out because of the reasons known to them. it could be that they have achieved their goals (now everyone knows TUZO)or they want to sponsor something else or even financial difficulties on their end or hooliganism or even financial misappropriation. Remember Galatasaray/Fernabache matches as well as the Latin America games are always chaotic but sponsors don’t leave. Does it mean that subscribers will ditch Safcom if they sponsor us and there are chaotic scenes. No way.
All the same this is a good experience for us. We now need to go begging with a very good blueprint on how will will manage ourselves.
I believe we will make it by defending our title, do Kenya proud in CAF and even CECAFA. All we need is to believe we can. Maybe JaKogelo can chip in something to help his team. What I don’t like is this thing of crying over split milk. When a boyfriend/girlfriend leaves you the best thing is to try and get an even better one and that’s what we should do.
The problem with AR and our EC is that they are waiting for potential sponsors to go to them or are writing letters to them. Personal bonding will do. I can see (KBL) Kerocha Breweries or SAB Miller or Airtel as one of the potential sponsors to target

What Mawego said above is true. The club will be in a tight spot if no sponsor comes on board. And yes hooligans are the reason. If this lesson does not teach hooligans a lesson then nothing else will.

Even when KPL start deducting points, they will still misbehave.

@Dan Original above, you have dealt with the issue comprehensively. Thanks. Otherwise, I do not think the folly of chest thumping about self sustenance and exclusive self support will help us any bit. The ec must go full blast, put their heads together and approach stakeholders. The brains at GM are capable of presenting very constructive proposals good enough to bring on board lucrative sponsors. Though sometimes i really wonder if GM top management is for posterity or amassing empty worship. For instance how do you print so few tickets? Play a match @3pm on a weekday? Then you express a want for funds? How much did we lose yesterday?

Bure nyinyi bloggers kabisa. Why making stupid allegations that Tuzo are withdrawing due to hooliganisms. Get your facts right. Tuzo had signed one year contract and you can’t force them to extend the contract. In this regard I have stopped buying Tuzo products that include milk and yoghurt. I will only support and buy products or use services of companies that will support the course of our club. If any milk company is coming, I will switch to their products. This withdrawal will be a big blow to Tuzo. In my house we have been buying ten packets of Tuzo millk everyday and five (5) packets of youghurt on weekly basis. As a result of their withdrawal from sponsoring our team, Tuzo too will loose on average of 3700 packets of milk and 270 packets of youghurt annually. This is my family alone. I will also influence my office decision to stop buying Tuzo. My office has been buying 210 packets of Tuzo milk on daily basis during weekdays. This will result to Tuzo too loosing this market by forfeiting office business by loosing the office business. In a year, Tuzo will loose, 210*5×52 = 54,600 Tuzo packets.
