Gor Mahia take on Muhoroni Youth

Blackberry slowly regaining form

Gor Mahia will take on Muhoroni Youth on Wednesday at the Nairobi city stadium in yet another midweek match. Gor Mahia will be hoping to continue their recent run of good form. In particular, the resurgence of the forwardline partnership between Rama Salim and Dan Sserunkuma.

Williamson Happy with performance

Following Gor Mahia’s clinical performance against Thika on Sunday, coach Bobby Williamson was happy with the team’s performance.

“It was a very tough match and I’m glad we emerged winners in the end. I think we played very well and controlled most parts of the match,” Williamson said.

“I honestly think we could have scored even more goals. Thika United’s goal too was questionable. The handball (by Harun Shakava) was not deliberate and therefore it shouldn’t have been a penalty but that happens in football, referee decisions work in your favour at times and at other times not,” he added.

Williamson also heaped praises on forwards Dan Sserenkuma and Rama Salim, saying their partnership had once again proved fruitful.

Muhoroni no pushovers

Muhoroni are determined to continue their recent run of good form that has seen them hold Tusker and Thika United and beat Western Stima. To achieve this, Muhoroni Youth had eight hours of rigorous training at Kisumu’s Moi Stadium on Friday and Saturday to enable the players get used to the Astro turf. After the sessions, coach Francis Baraza and manager Mike Odongo said they were ready to face Gor Mahia. “We brought the team here (to Kisumu) to avoid the rains that have been pounding Muhoroni area and also to help the team get used to artificial turf. “I’m impressed by the boys’ response and we are now ready for the Wednesday encounter,” said Baraza as the team left for Nairobi yesterday.

Go Gor go this is the time keep the feet permanently on the pedal, the train now seems to have left the station. Look what happened in Machakos on Sunday, even with those primitive tactics employed by Thika and one Kamau.

Whats this about weekdays fixtures? What is it we are running away from, the world cup? Is this not killing self supporting clubs who depend on gate collections -GM, AFC,CS etc? What about our work places, how long will our employers tolerate such absences? Or does the KPL have special people they would want to watch the matches? Even the big games like semis of super 8 are on weekdays. What are the reasons for this.

We need to bring back the floodlight matches for the sake of improving our soccer. If rugby has floodlight tournaments then why not soccer

Now’s the time for us to ‘carry’ the team. Barca fans did it for a long time without a shirt sponsor and were even sponsoring UNICEF as part of their CSR. We can do it as Gor, let’s have membership categories, Platinum, gold, silver and ivory with membership cards to identify us amongst other teams. To produce massively the plastic cards you only need like 100/= bob. The onus is now on the office
