Gor Mahia to hold Harambee for CECAFA travel
After the FKF refused to foot the travel bill and CECAFA declined because they are supposedly broke, Gor Mahia will now need to hold a fund-raiser to travel to Dar -es salaam for the CECAFA cup.
CECAFA chair Nicholas Musonye declined to offer financial support saying he could not make an exception.
“We are overwhelmed. They (Cecafa secretariat) told me they don’t have money. I had talks with my chairman (Leonard Tanga) and it’s impossible. Again, when all the other federations are playing their part, why would Kenya be an exception?” he asked.
“”It’s very tight on our end because we are running on a shoe-string budget. However, I must point out that I like the brand of football Gor is playing and we would want to have them in the tournament,” Musonye explained to the Daily Nation.
Club official Ronald Ngala said the club would hold a fund-raiser on Tuesday at Railway club. Nairobi businessman Sammy Wakiaga will be the chief guest. Unfortunately the club is not offering more information at this time.
In past years, the government footed the travel bill since the clubs were representing the country. Nowadays the government does basically nothing to assist clubs with travel and other issues.
Nuttall ready to apply lessons to CECAFA
Gor Mahia coach Frank Nuttall says his team has picked up the lessons from Sunday’s match against Mathare and is read to apply them when the team travels to Dar es salaam to play in the 2015 CECAFA club cup. Though Gor Mahia were adjudged to have had a sub par game by their standards, Nuttall thinks they earned the draw.
“This was a fair result since we dominated possession and also created chances managing to put one behind the net eventually,” he said after the match.
New signing Enock Agwanda was the toast of the game and fans called for him every-time there was a throw. One of his long throws eventually led to the equalizer.
“This only shows that we still have the power having more crosses into their box. Agwanda played a great role of course he is good at set pieces though it is tiring for him as he has to move from one end of the pitch to another,” said Nuttall.
It is a scene reminiscent of the legendary Tobias Ocholla “Jua Kali” who also used to be called upon by fans to criss-cross the field every-time there was a throw in.
His counterpart Stanley Okumbi for his part was dissapointed at the draw because he thought his team should have won.
“It is a match we should have won, we wanted three points against them and that is what we were working on to achieve, unfortunately we could not hold on, and ended up conceding late into the game. It has become a habit for us to concede late, and it is a trend we have to stop,” Okello said to goal.com.
pesa ya mkate ilienda wapi? 130,000 per day! Where are the updates? Kusaidia Gor ni ngumu sana!
130,000/- per day !!! That is dependent on how much is sold and you cannot count on that as the purchasing power of fans, distribution as well as the ability of the bakery to produce and sell that much. Let us help the team in its time of need
Do you buy that bread in the first place?, you are the type of people who are out there to critisieze on everything being proposed by the club management yet you are the same people when there is a game you want free entry. How do support a club if u dont parcipate? Running a club is not easy as some of you think.
Boycott the CECAFA tournament and concentrate on the KPL league which is our utmost grand prize. If other federations are footing the travel expenses then why not FKF? Why raise travel expenses and then play for 1 M prize which by the time the boys will have won, then they will be demanding winning allowances over and above the same 1M and yet we still have pending KPL winning allowance and not forgetting the July wage bill. This CECAFA might come back to haunt GOR title ambitions.
@ OGANGO, I support you 100%. Bt if they think ok, I’ll be there to give my support.
We can still win the KPL and have the players exposed out there in Dar. You don’t read upto class 8 then opt out of the exams because someone who promised to give you fare claims they are broke and now you don’t go to the exams center. I always give the example of a broke Zimbabwe team which drove to Malawi and won.
poverty begets poverty, i have always said that harambees aint nothing but a show of poor planning and incompetencies of the highest order. So what this means is that the club inspite of all the fundraising initiatives is living from hand to mouth !!!!
simple mathematics…..a luxurious modern coast bus from Nairobi to Dar-es salaam costs 6000 per passenger return, assuming we have a contingent of 30 that makes 180,000 travel costs. since everything is going to be taken care of in dar es salaam i.e accomodation, meals, transport e.t.c that means Kogallo simply need Kshs 200,000 to make that trip. surely, do you need Harambee for that ??????
I wonder whether people realise that such stories simply demoralises players and yet we still expect them to perform , ati win CECAFA title …..You MUST BE CRAZY !!!!
Those in fundraising at railways ask management on results ya mkate;surely its making money.
Wachana na cecafa
I see a number of low achievers here; we will win kpl title again for sure;its human to look for and set new oceans to conquer. Gor needs tough matches.I want to see how our defence deals with pressure, how our midfield will dominate or struggle to or how Olunga and Kagere will craft their way out of very tight and compact defence.I want to see Gor’s fighting mettle when they are down by a goal or two. This is good for their careers not matches against say Langata Gremio
@Moses,I support such mature n well thought out reasoning. Those who gate crush during matches really are very critical yet have nothing to offer. Stupid.
Gor Mahia is a victim of their own success. I am disappointed at the so called Football Analysts in Kenya- (SS). They are all giving Mathare credit for playing negative football. They simply packed the bus in the second half and refused to play football. The credit should go to Gor Mahia for finding away through the bus yo net the equalizer. We even had more chances to win the match. Can anyone point to me any dangerous situation that our defenders and goalkeeper had to deal with apart from that fortunate goal!!!””
@Le paste, the likes of Mullee are sulking.
They are at best ignored as we support our team n do our thing.
The Tourment was good GM to test their ability outside Kenya but if Club must foot everthing there’s no need. The fundraising should have been for paying the Outstsnding Winning allowancesof the Players, not to travel to Dar.This Minisry of Sport and Culture what do they do with their Budget that they can’t even pay Tickets for a Team representing the Counry in such Tourment?. The same queStions goes to KPL, When do they help Clubs Participtng in their Leaques? Or EC are using such cases to fatten their Pockets?
kindly EC renew kegares’ contract early in time so that we maintain him he is a great player we have around
i do wonder why some people are still dwelling on KPL, its done, Go has won it, lets focus on CECAFA and other trophies ahead, this is what Nuttal should focus on.
I want to wish the team all the best in CECAFA, i believe you can do wonders there too!!
Gor must have ambitions apart from KPL. Those saying we don’t go to Dar should ask why we then need to win the league. What if we had opted out of CAF in ’87. We would not be calling Gor Africa champs. This CECAFA will give players like Glay a chance to play as we don’t have the foreigner limit there. Ominos and BBs, TOs have a chance to shine out there
I think we need to Dar to put the record straight, considering the debacle of last year and the CAF champions league in which some loud- mouth coaches and payers in KPL are busy mocking us that we only win through the assist of the march officials.
As for KPL I think we are on the right track. The only curiosity to deal with is winning it unbeaten.
On CECAFA, let Gor Mahia go so that we get enough exposure. We surely have enough playing unit so I don’t think there is any need to be worried.
The challenges we need to deal with are:
– Financial problems
– Injury concerns and
– Fatigue
But all will be well.
The situation is very tricky. Those arguing that we should pull out of the Club Championship have a very genuine case. However, I am in support of K’Ogalo going to ‘
“clean its image and set the records straight” as far as CECAFA Club Championship is concerned. As WAB puts it our biggest headache is lack of funds. Simply lack of funds. The scheduled fund-raiser may not amount to much, given the shambolic arrangement coupled with poor publicity as usual. God should surely send some philanthropist, but in the meantime let us all avail ourselves with our money, no matter how little, and raise, raise and raise till there is no more to raise.
Poverty begets poverty…how often has it been said and we simply JUST dont get .
Kogallo just needs Kshs 200,000 and we are in CECAFA ….Simple mathematics , Modern Coast bus Nairobi to Daressalaam return = Kshs 6,000.00. Make it a contingent of 30 people that makes it Kshs 200,000.00 inclusive of stop over meals. The rest is taken care of by CECAFA in Tanzania including accomodation.
So bloggers, what is the fuss about harambees ??? to raise Kshs 200,000 ??? surely is the club this broke …
You didn’t have to repeat this!! Unless you are dealing with idiots
Mmmmh! kindly.next FKF election.nyamweya must go. l think nyamweya we must just send him home. kwani hakuna pesa?
OK.najua mwenyezi mungu atatuona sisi wanakogalo.2tafika tz nd win the cup. nyamweya must just go hm nd rest

No one knows how the bread thing is doing,no updates.
Admin kumbe you are around! Why then don’t you adjust this blog site’s clock? Sometimes you remind me of retired president Kibaki.
Kwani JO K’Ogalo what did we do wrong to THE SPONSORS?, It was Mathare United now City Stars second from bottom, aeeeeh Yawa!!. As concerned Nyamweya he will be re-elected because in Kenya if you have money you can get what you want. Unless the Prezo ordered Nyamweya not to contest the Post, otherwise he will be elected againt. DETERGENTS MANUFACTURES why can’t you come in to Sponsor Gor Mahia, OMO, AERIAL AND PERSIL, K’Ogalo has got the followers all over the COUNTY?
it’s simple. Politics, opequeness and lack of focused leadership. Your goons add to the icing on the cake.
Does the club gain from merchandize sales;can a creative Luo entrepreneur come up with other products related to Gor for sale.Does the club have a strategic plan ie get a sponsor and also make it a profitable entity.
I am exited at the thought of the green army invading the National Stadium in Dar on Saturday to grace the mouth-watering clash. Personally I will cross through Lunga Lunga and Horohoro then Tanga and I am in Dar. Just KES 2400 return journey by bus.

Guys let us try our best not to cross the paths of TZ police. Let us not give them a reason to imagine we have gone for their land. Speak English with them and utalala ndani. ISAACWUODAGWARA I am worried for you. Just try the plain old Kiswahili with them. The Kenyan Kiswahili will do just fine because it will send them into laughter as they feel superior. Otherwise ISAACWUODAGWARA. try that language of yours with them na utalala ndani and miss the big match.
Hehee…funny one. Jang’o swa will surely save the day. Unfotunately coz of committments i will not make it but all the best for you those who will travel. I’m sure u’ll share ur adventures with us… Have a safe journey.
Mimi owes wait for this kidumbwedumbwe.
Since our own is ceo of kpl we dont want to pin point kpl mistakes. Those aspirants for fkf dont have numbers n nyamweya Will Win smoothly. Unless EC changes their behaviours no sponsor Will come on board. In any case u Heard from AR when they were launching city stars sponsors he said clearly That clubs dont need sponsors they should ne self reliant now how can a club ne self reliant without accountability. I think what we have in our for officials is office managers n not business managers
. am glad simba have expressed interest on Boniface oluoch .
Its not yet over until its over, as said by Sir Alex F….. Lets not be complecsant and assume that we have taken the league! We have a long way to be declared Champions and this is what the fans are really yearning for this year. The team’s participation in the CECAFA has its own merits that cannot be wished away. We just need to support the team as always for better results. Long live KOgallo.
So the fund drive raised Sh 2.1 M. a good amount by all standards. Then Uhunye/gava is now paying for the tickets, obviously Gor has some good national appeal.
What disturbs me is that the management is not ready to take advantage of this. If K’Ogalo management were to present a good value proposition to the fans, I am sure our team would become self sufficient. But the management does not seem to have any managerial capacity or the time to get this done.
It would be nice to know how much the club is making from say the bread etc. I also get the feeling that our inability to get a shirt sponsor is a result of management ineffectiveness. I do believe that Supersport/GoTV would be more than happy to brand Gor. I bet Emirates/Qatar would also be willing to atleast sit down and listen to a value proposition that gives them visibility around Africa/Eastern Africa. There are also several Nigerian banks that I can bet would want to here more ideas on how to have there brand out there. We will however not get such monied sponsors if we focus on commodity traders like milk and bread manufacturers.
The match against math are was just like any other much. I believe though that Gor might have underrated their opponents. Sometimes success can go into our heads, and this can be costly. One other factor the coach needs to think about seriously is fatigue. He is a fitness trainer though.
