Gor Mahia players named to national teams

Kenya U20

Two Gor Mahia players from the senior squad and one from the Gor Mahia U19 squad have been named to the Kenya U20 squad that will play their Sudanese counterparts in two weeks. Eric Ouma “Marcelo” who was signed recently from Kakamega high is in the team. Marcelo has shown flashes of brilliance and confidence when fielded this season. Also named is Amos Nondi who was recently promoted from the U19 team and Cliff Nyakeya who currently plays for the U19 team. Former Thika United coach John Kamau is the head coach, assisted by Hezborn Nyabinge.

Defenders: Collins Okumu (Thika United), Joseph Okumu (Chemelil Sugar), Kenneth Mugambi (Western Stima), Baraka Badi (Thika United), Eric Ouma (Gor Mahia), Boniface Mukhekhe (St. Anthony’s Kitale) and David Kennedy Owino (Laiser Hill).

National senior team

Goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch who of late has been sidelined by Jerim Onyango, has been called up to the national team. He will however have a tall order displacing experienced Arnold Origi whose father is Kogalo legend Austin Oduor Origi.  Midfielder Francis Kahata and his team-mate Collins Okoth Gattuso were called up to the team but later dropped by coach Okumbi. Also dropped was defender Harun Shakava.

A number of former Gor Man players have also been named: Shaban Kenga (Bandari) Mike Olunga (IF Djugarden) as well as David Owino “Calabar” and Anthony Akumu, both of Zesco United in Zambia. Gor Mahia loanee Timothy Otieno, whose career is experiencing a resurgence at Posta Rangers has also been named to the national team.

Ayub Timbe and Paul Were have been sidelined due to injury and passport issues respectively.

Meanwhile new Gor Mahia coach Jose Marcelo Ferreira had his first chance to watch his new charges play. On Sunday they played against FC Uropa at Camp Toyoyo grounds. Gor Mahia won 4-0. The first goal came when former Gor Mahia defender Ivan Anguyo turned the ball into his own net while trying to clear a cross from Bernard Odhiambo.

Ronald Omino was key in the next two goals. The second goal resulted when Omino was fouled in the penalty box. Enock Agwanda netted the resulting penalty. Omino supplied the pass for the next goal, also scored by Agwanda who went on to complete a hat trick.

    Election Board chair arrested as he gives direction on how and when the elections should be held. Is this the beginning of the war for the sponsorship money? I hope I am wrong and the fight is for a progressive Gor
