Onduparaka 2 Gor Mahia 0

Gor Mahia suffered a surprise 2-0 loss to Onduparaka of Uganda in the highly anticipated international friendly played at Namboole stadium in Kampala on Saturday. It is Gor Mahia’s third successive loss in the 2017 pre-season having lost to Al Hilal 0-1, Thika United 1-2 and now Onduparaka 0-2. The loss puts additional pressure on Brazilian tactician Ze Maria who has yet to convince Kogalo supporters since his arrival in February of 2016.

Additional reporting from Kawowo sports
Forward, Living Kabon scored twice to ensure the Ugandan outfit tamed Zee Maria’s Gor Mahia in an international friendly played on Saturday evening in Kampala, Uganda.

Despite the downpour that preceded the highly anticipated piece of action, the game still managed a sizeable crowd at the Mandela National stadium.

In a game witnessed by former presidential candidate Rt. Col. Kiiza Besigye, Onduparaka stamped their authority in every aspect and were deserved winners.

Gor Mahia custodian Boniface Oluoch was to blame for Onduparaka’s opener as he failed to deal with a free kick.

The Kenyan international collected the ball from the net after fumbling with a free kick and gifting Kabon a tap-in which sent the home crowd into wild celebrations.

Kabon added another in the second half, only a minute after Onduparaka had been reduced to ten men.

Defender Gasper Adriko was shown a second yellow card for time wasting. Gaddafi Gadinho then found Kabon with a through pass on the counter attack before the forward rounded Oluoch to lash into an empty net.

Onduparaka were using the match as a build up to their start to the second round of the Uganda Premier League which resumes next week.
For Gor Mahia, the match was one of the means to prepare for the 2017 Kenya Premier League season as they look to regain league glory having lost the title to Tusker last season.

Head coach Leo Adraa named FUFA Player of the Year, Muhammed Shaban on the bench but didn’t use him citing a thigh injury the striker suffered at the AFCON tournament with Uganda Cranes.

Towering defender Rashid Toha had to be substituted late in the game due to an injury that will require tests if he is to feature in the team’s game with Proline on Wednesday.

Onduparaka are third on the Uganda Premier League log and will be hoping to put up performances similar to that against Gor Mahia.

Onduparaka starting XI: Richard Anyama, Adriko Gasper, Saddam Norman, Akram Kakembo, Rashid Toha, Ivan Mbowa, Faizal Ibrahim Anini, Gaddafi Gadinho, Fahad Muhammad Tokko, Ceasar Okhuti, Kabon ‘Messi’ Living

Gor Mahia starting XI: Boniface Oluoch,Abdul Karim Nzigimana,Mike Simiyu,Musa Muhammad, Joash Onyango,Collins Okoth,Kenneth Muguna,Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza,Francis Kahata,Jacques Tuyisenge,Timothy Otieno

  • As much as some people want us not to criticize, these results speak volume about our team. No team goes into a match to lose, for me all matches are competitive, friendly or not. We are suppose to gauge our team with these friendlies and from the results I can say without fear of contradiction that there several weak links with our team and the weakest link could be the coach. Gor mahia fans must wake up and demand for results.

I SAID IT ANY COACH THAT ALLOWS THE EC TO RECRUIT FOR HIM IS NOT WORTH HIS SALT. RESULT OF +8 YEARS OF BEING HOODWINKED BY LOCAL TITLES WHEN GM’S POTENTIAL IS MUCH HIGHER.FN SHOWED REGIONAL & CONTINENTAL AMBITIONS BUT THAT IS NOT EC’S GOAL SINCE IT WOULD LESSEN THE LOOT TO BE SHARED.ELECTIONS BILA ANY REPORT MUNACHESWA/TUNACHESWA. Any local title will only be meaningful if in 2018 GM makes regional & continental impact.

How does one defend this? Team pod gel? It was just pre season and it was not a must we win? The opponent is in mid season so are fitter? Screw those. I was one of the fiercest critics of the coach last season but was forced to tone down once he was given one or is it two more years since there is little i can do. But it seems all i can do is criticise since this coach does very little to inspire praise!!! He was being undermined by Ottamax, that was sorted, he wanted a squad of his own imprint, he got his wish, so what the hell is his excuse this time. Three matches and one goal which if you were at Toyoyo you will know came from the run of play. Sorry to compare this with our rivals for the title who have been banging goals abaramach.A team’s sharpness is seen in how many times it can hit the back of the net even if its against Embu Combined or Supaloaf. Tuyisenge is a 4 million striker and should have hit the net at least twice in preseason. We have a problem.

Only Tok Komwanda can save us. The pressure we exert on the boys will make them perform. Kama ni Nyayo and Kasarani and away games, then we will see so many draws.

The issue here i think is tiki taka vs a very physical approach used regionally. Having watched the African Cup of Nations, i have realised that most teams are really physical. Burkina, Cameroon and the likes. The current Gor seems a little soft. That’s why Ochomo was the leading scorer until he started his shenanigans. The boys must play hard and Ze Maria must come up with a hybrid tiki taka that can manage local opponents.

@ villager, good observation. First mistake ze maria made was that he has no local coach to work with him to understand local football. He would rather pick fights with jodala in the name of sabotage. Now see what is happening in the absence of jodala ? Where is ogweno ? Where is ottamax ? …
How can previous kogallo coaches worked so well with local coaches including FN , the politician ?

Secondly, he rushes and appoints brazil assistant coach and fitness coach – expensively assembled and probably in Africa for holidays. I repeat …Tiki taka is not African football and will never be . You take your tiki taka style of play to meru combined as others would put it , you can be sure you will take a beating. Did ze maria actually watch all this new recruits before signing ? Or who did he delegate this work to and what was the criteria ?

The problem with this coach and jobrazil camp is that they believe get rid of jodala and instill tiki taka and it will eventually work not forgetting that this is Africa and our style of play is different . ..different from their wildest possible imaginations !

I have nothing against Brazilians but we must insist before the league starts that a local coach must be brought on board at senior level othwrwise the ship will only sink further and the new recruits will all be offloaded come June.

Was his track record worth? My opinion, if indeed we need a foreign coach let Mugabe turn Europe and bcoz maria has a running contract let him handle youth team for his remaining period where sijui tiki takata can be helpful to the youths in early development otherwise don’t be surprise heart attack will be real

Methinks its over for Ze Maria & crew. When you analyse his unimpressive coaching career his second seasons are much worse compared to the first season. It would be a big risk/fatal mistake to give him more time.EC use the current tussle between KPL/FKF to get a replacement pronto. Don’t bring back Ogweno/Ottamax they were part of the failure. As for his replacement i suggest Ugandan Sam Timbe asap, the record winning CECAFA coach. 4 titles to his credit, knows our premier league well enough plus the CECAFA region to get us the best players. Luwere Ze Maria Luwere Nyasaye akulinde though you caused us much suffering.
