Gor Mahia in Africa

Gor Mahia in the 1969 Africa cup of champions

Having won the Kenya National Football League in 1968, Gor Mahia qualified to play in the 1968 Africa cup of champions.

In the opening leg, they played against Burri of Sudan. They won the first leg 4-2 in Sudan. They then inexplicably lost 1-0 at home, thus starting a strange tradition of performing better away from home than at home. A pattern that would continue for decades. They however proceeded after winning 4-3 on aggregate.

In the quarter-finals, they played Ismailia of Egypt. They lost the first leg 3-1 in Egypt before drawing 1-1 in Nairobi, thus going out 4-2 on aggregate. Ismailia went on to win the 1969 Africa cup of champions.
