Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche sensationally revealed that Gor Mahia striker Paul Mungai Kiongera missed out on an opportunity to join a ‘German club’ early this season due to an injury he sustained in the Kenya premier league match pitting Gor and Sofapaka.
Kiongera scored the stunning winner in the 1-0 win in the first league match of the season for Zdravko Logaruisc’s men and then limped off injured and has since not featured for Gor since.
The injury cost Gor Mahia an estimated Sh87.5 million in transfer fee. Amrouche disclosed the German official was willing to pay 800,000 euros to get the services of the Kiongera.
“Had the transfer materialised, it could have changed the fortunes of Gor as a club and Kiongera as a player,” said Amrouche. The former KCB hit man has now recovered sufficiently enough and is back in training with Gor.
“ A German Club official who is a friend of mine told me that he was looking for a striker and I told him about Kiongera . I also put forward Dennis oliech’s name but he picked out Kiongera. He said he watched Kiongera’s goal against Sofapaka and he liked it,” revealed Amrouche.
“I talked to the player about it and advised him that he should talk to his club coach and officials so that they can be more cautious with him to avoid anything scuttling the deal but unfortunately he got injured and with it went the opportunity,” added Amrouche.
Kiongera confirmed the national team coach had indeed talked to him about the possible switch to the professional ranks in Europe but had not disclosed to him the club nor any more details about the deal.
“The coach called me and told me that a club from Germany wanted my services but I had no contact with any official from the club. I then got injured and I have not had about the deal since,” the former Friends School Kamusinga star admitted.
The Stars coach added that his role as Kenyan coach is to ensure the fortunes of the country’s national team and its players improve under his watch.
He said he would continue to use his contacts in Europe to enhance the opportunities for the best players in the country to pursue professional football abroad.
“It will delight me immensely if I help a player in Kenya get the chance to play in a top league in Europe. The country has top talent and it only needs to be harnessed for them to realise their full potential,” the Belgian tactician remarked.
It is not the first time national team coach has sought to link a Kenyan player to a club in Europe. In 2009, then Stars coach Antoine Hey arranged for Tusker midfielder Peter Opiyo to have trials with Fortuna Dusseldorf.
isn’t this news that was reported over 3 weeks ago?kindly give us current affairs please!!!
yaliyopita si ndwele !
…..And again who would have benefited here, is Gor or KCB? I thought Kiongera is on loan?
Kiongera has a bright future.
Now that he has recovered, he’ll get the deal if this guy was serious, otherwise the rest are just but details.
Now this seems to be the real source of the beef between Loga and Amrouche. The guy has picked MK even before he attains full match fitness. He waited for Loga to leave then snapped him up.
These coaches who come around may be more interested in selling players than coaching the teams. There are players who played against Nigeria who are not even good enough for the bench only a few days later. What is Amrouche’s criteria of picking players for the national team? Why did he play them if they were that poor? Is he testing them to see whom he can sell? His problem with Oliech also borders on the same. Deals, Deals and more Deals.
@creative village i tell you these three coaches in harambee stars are just abunch of failures who are nyamweya boot leakers.am really sure that kiongera is not yet healed well and you can see him included in the national team which is going nowhere.
with me i dont recognise nandwa and odhiambo as coaches coz after all wat have they achieved in kenya premiear league ever since? cant remember but i guess they have not even gotten asingle trophy with ateam.
the only achievement they have is coaching teams to relegation and do you know that these two guys are the amrtouches advices xo do yu expect harambee stars to perform? never.
TO gor mahia officals you should buy these guy to be officially gor mahia player stop jokes ya kulia lia hakuna pesa and you are stealing alot of cash from the club.
Now its here in black and white, there is something about this Amrouche that we did not know. This apparent unilateral idea of trying to sell this player must have been the cause of his beef with Loga the other day.
This man has a hidden agenda and the sooner he is told off the better. He must be after making some quick bucks in cahoots with some crooked officials before he quits as that will come soon too if he does not come up with positive results.
Now we do not know which other player he has talked to. What was the logic of taking this player to Malawi yet he has not even gone back to play for his club after long layoff?
On CECAFA: LET’S NOT GO THERE, its going to drain the players for no good reason and also considering the injuries that the club has suffered lately. Above all, there is tension already building up between Sudan(Bashir) and South Sudan(Kiir) and it is not wise to risk any body’s life at this moment.
ATI WHAT? “A German Club official who is a friend of mine told me that he was looking for a striker and I told him about Kiongera . I also put forward Dennis oliech’s name but he picked out Kiongera. He said he watched Kiongera’s goal against Sofapaka and he liked it,”
SO WHAT?DID HE LIKE THE GOAL OR THE GOAL SCORER?
this is a PR gimmick to win the trust of disappointed Kenyans who made it to the kasarani to watch the stars play Nigeria. Amrouche is so quick to make money out of our very own players in the name of coaching the national team, does anyone have a clear record of this so called national team coach? the only record i have is that he is so unprofessional – where on earth have you ever heard of a coach not taking his team to camp (a few days before the match)when he knows that he is going to play a high profile team like nigeria in a world cup qualifier? not even our very own coaches would allow that.the reason players go to camp is to maintain high standards of discipline, now should we blame jamal and company for appearing on the social media “enjoying themselves” a few hours before the match or should we blame the coach for not confining them to camp? also the ban on oliech is more than what we read on the media. This man amrouche is not here for the good of the country, but for personal interests. truth be said, THIS COUNTRY NEEDS OLIECH MORE THAN IT NEED AMROUCHE.the damage he has done is more than enough, leave alone what awaits us after the the malawi match.
Guys, am not supporting Amrouche yet not against him either.
Really is the burst against Mr. Amrouche steming out of the beef he had with loga? Its understandable that to many a GM fans loga is a perfect person that can not be mistaken and so anyone disagreeing with him is the devil straight from Hell, worth burning to ashes. The last time the two gentlemen had a quarrel loga was not on the wrong though, as he withdrew GM players to participate in the top 8 game.
Its quite unfair to keep bashing people from a weak base of obsession with another. Remember even K’ogalo players don’t go to camp since loga came and i don’t know how Amrouche becomes damn unprofessional whereas loga remains the small god when both of them do the same things, in case they do. Didn’t i hear of the ‘Shisha HS’camp at Naivasha or which camp are we talking about?
Moreover, in the article above its clearly stated that Amrouche advised Kiongera to talk to his club! What is wrong with that? What is so personal about leading a friend looking for a striker to one? How do people get jobs? Is it wrong to get a job through a contact?
However am surprised with Amrouche’s way of team selection and trully including Kiongera prematurely in his ‘Shisha HS’ squad raises eyebrows.
@kasam nowadays that team is called shisha team no wonder the shisha man could not be punished or left out of the malawi squad.dont kill me with laugter yawa.
