Attendance was below expectations.

During the match against US Bitam on Saturday , there were vast swathes of Nyayo stadium that were empty including the sections of the stadium usually occupied by Gor Mahia fans. According to futa.com, the gate collection was only Ksh 1 million.
What were the reasons ?
Yanga’s TV Deal
In contrast to their Kenyan counterparts, Yanga of Tanzania signed a deal with SGM which is a Kenyan company. The deal allows SGM to televise all of Yanga’s Champions league matches. In return, Yanga gets US $ 55,000 or the equivalent of Ksh 4.9 million.
Yanga also entered a seperate deal with MGB to televise the matches in North Africa and central Africa. This is in anticipation of the fact that Yanga will play Al Ahly of Egypt in the first round thus creating a huge demand for the match in North Africa.
Note that there is no such deal in Kenya. Not even when two Kenyan teams played against Egyptian opposition in 2013. Even if Gor Mahia plays Esperance in the first round, chances are that Supersport will televise the match for free once again paying no royalty and leaving Gor Mahia with paltry gate collections.
We live in interesting times…ati Ronald Ngala is shocked about the low fan turnout at the game versus US Bitam!!really really????
TO Ronald Ngala.Let me tell you for free the reason many fans gave the game a big miss.
1.High gate charges. Its not rocket science that the higher you charge the less people you attract.Oduor12 in another blog did the math and gave you a simple solution on how to attract the fans to the stadium. But did you heed???NO!!!greed greed greed!!!!!
2.Hooliganism.The monster that just wont go away and that your office is not keen on fighting. Some fans felt safer watching on telly than get exposed to running battles inside the stadium.shame shame shame!!!!!!
3.Rain????a big NO!that has never deterred fans from attending a match!!!lies lies lies
AFC charged 600 and 300 for the game and also collected close to 1 million…like us, and they have a smaller fan base than ours…..need i go on….??????
I am disappointed by the EC. No efforts were made (and are never made) to market the matches and mobilise the fans. Even the ticket prices was not pocket friendly.
In fact many people paid Kshs. 100/= and entered the stadium. You would rather charge VIP 500/= and “Russia” 100/= and attract more fans than have a majority bribe their way into the stadium.
Cant we somebody to do marketing for the club to raise more money. We can have the person on contract and give targets to be achieved.
by charging 1000 and 300 they thought they were in for a biiiiig payday…poleni.
Its not rocket science that the higher the gate charges the less fans you will attract!charge reasonably and see the turnout.Football is a game of numbers…put the fans first….not the money!!!!!!!
The low attendance was expected. I have not seen the admin mention Arsenal. I personally know many of our fans who opted to watch Arsenal. They later regretted it anyway.
the day gor mahia realise the damage hooliganism is doing for gor , that’s the day the floodgates of success will open. so when you blame the wether, marketing and other kinds of unseen obstacles ur simply being what i refer to as an african manager. africa has continued to blame the west, 50 years after the white man left him with his riches. up to today africa still screams of independence yet sits at the doors of world bank with a bowl.the list ofcourse is probably endless. this is a club that even the FIFA chairman sends congratulatory messages too yet we talk about marketing the club. what a pity.
Admn u 4got to mention the gate charges, the organisers does very little to attract more fans, very many fans were kept away by the charges 4 both Gor’s n AFC matches u better relook on that during the next outings.
kill 2 birds with one stone….charge half that amount all round the stadium…ie 150 and 500,get more fans to cheer the team and make more money in the process…is that too hard to implement?
With your 300 and 1000,some of us will opt to catch it on TV and others bribe their way in while others will just wait to hear the results.
BE REASONABLE IN YOUR PRICING PLEASE!!!!!!
its not the gate charges its is the fear for hooliganism.
The cool factor in kogalo cant be sustain if hooliganism is there either the club is cool and hooliganism is non existent or the club belongs to the hooligans and you kiss big money good bye believe you me that is how it is.
People want to spend their hard earned money in peace and Gor Mahia has a well balanced fan base that can pay whatever it takes if all kogalo fans are ready to lose a match in peace.
Ooh Laa la..! “US DE BITAM VERY MUCH UNCOVERED”
I wont dwell in low turnout debate that we all anticipated due to obvious reasons. EC wake Up and smell the coffee. You can reap beyond 3M if u style-Up.
Back to the issue at stake-“BITAM”. We will beat them.
WHY? This team has lost the last four league matches in Gabon league prior to playing K’Ogalo last weekend. Currently they are occupying the bottom position in the Gabon league with a paltry one point. They sacked their coach prior to hiring Omam Biyik whose job is also on the line after dismissal performance and fans are enraged with the 1-0 beating he celebrated in the hands of K’Ogalo in Nairobi.

another thing is raise the bar because the club needs more revenue ask yourself how much do you pay to watch TP Mazembe or even Yanga/Simba?
Put more value in the club brand keep it at 1k and maintain it there those who will pay the 1k will not want to throw stones when the club loses, in the process maintain a certain group of fans thinking in a different way because you cant keep on doing the same thing and expect different results, you bite the bullet and be ready to lose certain fans coz anyway kogalo is too sweet they will just reform and come back bila taking tough decisions naona discipline itakuwa shida.
You see the fans now turned hooligans were in terraces during the dark years and we suffered a lot but that is a gone era now and we must move on open to new ideas but instead they have turned to be extremists like al shabaab and wont keep peace anywhere but i think the new rule of docking points will turn everything against them na washindwe warushwe nje ya viwanja vyote Kenya ndio kandanda iendelee!
Guys this is wha I call vicious cycle. If you reduce prices with the hope of attracting many fans, then you end up with a bunch of bang smoking hooligans attending the game and causing trouble. If you increase the ticket prices, then you end up weedind many of the apples but your gate collections suffer. So, pick your poison……..
I wonder if some of us here reason practically or if they really know just a few hooligans?
The few hooligans i’ve seen doing damage are ever there even in the away matches as far as mombasa, Sony, Mumias, Nakuru etc!Who then pays for their fare if you are blocking them from the stadia by merely charging 300/1000? How do you then pretend that its only those who can’t afford gate charges of Kshs.300/- are exclusive hooligans? These are the simplistic, impractical, anti development and myopic reasoning ever implemented at the management which keeps GM behind. Remember you can not deny realities. These people will afford anything GM and go anywhere to do their thing.
Let the EC admit they have their other reasons for charging the exorbitant fees but it did not help and will not in the future, remember if you are selling in the market you must have real and serious strategies of challenging your competitors but just saying K’ogalo is a brand will not prevent EPL fans from chosing between a rain logged football and some quality soccer on TV if anything both of them were available on TV who lost?
Further, we can not compare what happens in TZ, DRC or even Egypt because as soon as you step into TZ its a totally different culture, lets deal with our issues practically and localise solutions without the hollow imaginations of rushing to quote countries whose sense of thinking and belonging is a huge contrast to ours.
People love K’ogallo but the majority sensible one will way between watching on TV or missing their supper without being hooligans..its a matter to very many people of opportunity cost.
@#12 Kassam I would like to ask you a simple question. Would you feel safer to be in Kibera in the middle of the night or in Lavington? The truth of the matter is that most of the hooligans are youths who generally come from lower social economical backgrounds and are frustrated by life and vent out their anger by fighting at games for the smallest reason. Therefore, an increase in price will mean a safer game environment but lower gate earnings.
Its amazing that some GM fans would rather go watch Arsenal instead of watching GM play in a continental match.
Whereas Arsenal is guaranteed to be on TV every week, you never know the next time you might have a chance to watch GM in continental football. It is not guaranteed. This is not the 1980s.
These are fools of EPL football sofaset branches. Furthermore they do not know how EPL is being run. Shame of Arsenal fans. I hope they (our hooligans) can copy the behavior of UK fans and replicate some good manners during our Gor Mahia games. These are not Gor Mahia fans. May be this is why we had a peaceful atmosphere.
Ingo, hapa ni pahali pa gor mahia funs, y cant post ua comments in AFC FUN page? or u r interestd with gor kogalo mayienga? sawa, may b sisi kama kogalo ndyo 2me style up ,nwei u r welcome. kogalo juu
I’m sorry Ingo but that’s some simple-minded thinking you are unleashing. Relating neighborhood /socioeconomic status to propensity to hooliganism in football?
Kadigah…I know it may sound harsh but that is simply the truth. Raise the price of the ticket and you will have a much safer game.
Isaac.. Mimi kama shemeji naweza kukuja hapa wakati wowote. Uliza shemeji Barefoot na Mwakio watakwambia
It’s not rocket science why the number was low:-1) the rain 2) arsenal was playing 3) the psyche was missing 4) hooliganism 5) uninspiring off season buildup 3) 300 bob entry
all the same there was peace and that’s what matters
Can a leopard ever change its spots? They say insanity is doing the same thing(s) over & over again & then expecting different results.
During the elections we retained the head, heart & blood of GM’s executive operations “as is” for the last 6 or so years. NOW UNLESS THE NEW OFFICIALS CONVERT THE OLD ONES TO EMBRACE PROGRESSIVE,VISIONARY & STRUCTURED MANAGEMENT OF GM THEN DON’T EXPECT MUCH.
The only way to attract fans is by playing entertaining soccer, scoring beautiful goals & winning, winning & I repeat WINNING. Add security & reasonable prices & Asernal/EPL can’t compete WITH A CHANCE TO WATCH LIVE ACTION. IF YOU DOUBT THEN YOU DIDN’T SEE FANS CHEERING EVERY MOVE B4 S/PAKA SCORED. THAT WAS THE STYLE IN THE EIGHTIES.
@oswozo moziek & fellow bloggers allow me to repeat for sake of R.Ngala what to me seems to be simple maths/logic. EC target:
1) 13,500 terrace fans @150 bob (even 100) to raise kshs.2,025,000 per match.
2) 1,500 VIP fans @ 500bob to raise kshs.750,000/match.
Total collections/match for the 15 league games only will be kshs.2,775,000 x 15=kshs.41.625M.
The 5 or so extra GoTv,Top 8,CAF matches can rake in another kshs.14M. Thats 54M from the gate still not considering the Shemeji derby that can net 5 alone.
**REMEMBER EC YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THESE FANS ATTENDING ALL THE 15 HOME MATCHES IN LARGE NUMBERS IN ADDITION TO WINNING OVER NEW FANS, THIS INITIALLY MEANS PAYING FOR THEIR FRIENDS & FAMILY.
**MAJORITY OF FANS HAVE TO BALANCE THE NEED/LOVE OF ATTENDING GOR MATCHES FOR THE WHOLE SEASON AGAINST OTHER NEEDS.
WHY GLORIFY THE KSHS.1M FROM DONATIONS FROM A FEW AND IGNORE THE POTENTIONAL OF RAISING 54M FROM FANS OR WORSE POORLY ACCOUNT FOR WHAT FANS HAVE PAID ATI 9.1M. BTW INGWE RAISED 12M FROM THE GATE LAST YEAR.
EC GIVE THE PLAYERS A CHANCE TO BE BETTER REMUNERATED AND CAN YOU IMAGINE THE EFFECT OF 15K+ FANS URGING ON THE TEAM.WOW
Secondly why can’t our EC invest in CCTV technology instead of paying fines. We can out hire he CCTV Hequipment when we are not using it earning the club additional income especially now that shirt sponsorship is becoming an issue. Crucial areas to be covered by CCTV is the entry point to spot light corrupt officials/fans even police being reckless/corrupt can be filmed in the act.
Something extra of CCTV technolgy. I think EC can invest in this technology to safeguard the clubs incomes rather than pay hefty fines that drain the clubs resources. Please bear with the long article
Dallmeier CCTV / IP video surveillance solutions for stadiums
Large-scale events are a major challenge for any organiser. One of the main issues regarding the planning and execution of such events is to ensure the safety of visitors at all times. Video surveillance technology is an indispensable toll to this end, for instance when it comes to securing major sports stadiums. Regarding video surveillance, numerous stadiums around the world rely on products and solutions by Dallmeier.
Whenever a major stadium hosts a great concert or an exciting soccer match, a huge mass of people convene at the site. Growing numbers of visitors though also increase the risk of dangerous situations arising. Those can include objects being thrown onto the playing field or even the displaying of fireworks by fans. Unchecked crowds or brawls between fans are probably among the scenarios that security personnel fear most. In order to prevent such escalations from the start and to ensure the safety of fans and players, a sophisticated video security system provides the necessary overview.
Besides higher security for visitors, CCTV / IP surveillance systems also offer a clear financial benefit for stadiums. Given the fact that large events such as soccer matches attract many international fans, it is important to be able to ward off any potential lawsuits from abroad.
Panomera® for highest detail resolution at every distance
With the Panomera® multifocal sensor system, a huge area can be monitored from a single location extremely efficiently. The most impressive aspect of the product is that it combines the overall view with simultaneous top detail resolution: Even more distant objects are displayed with the same resolution as objects in the foreground of the picture.
An entire stadium can be monitored permanently with just two Panomera® systems, thus the costs for the required infrastructure (masts, cables, electricity, etc.) are substantially lower than for several distributed HD cameras.
Furthermore, Panomera® solves the well-known problem with PTZ cameras whereby the operator has to choose between overview image and detailed view. It does not matter which section of a surveillance area an operator focuses on at any time, because Panomera® always records the entire scene. It is thus possible to later reconstruct any event for use as evidence in court, regardless of where it took place, and to recognise all persons involved (frame by frame playback).
The right camera for every application
To round off the security concept, Dallmeier offers a range of cameras for the outdoor areas of a stadium. Depending on the area of application either high-speed PTZ dome cameras, box cameras or vandal-resistant dome cameras are used. The latter provide for safety and security in sensitive areas, too. Therefore the complete surroundings of the stadiums, including streets and access roads, are also reliably monitored. All cameras are equipped with the tried and trusted Cam_inPIX® technology, an image processing technology developed by Dallmeier to deliver detailed image material with high contrast and colour fidelity.
Reliable recording
For recording the image data Dallmeier offers different recorders, depending on the size of the respective stadium: From modular one-channel recorders in blade technology and hybrid recording servers which can record both analogue and IP cameras up to network-based VideoIP appliances.
All devices have one thing in common though: a high reliability and failure safety. All components are manufactured according to the highest quality standards and extensively tested prior to being shipped. Dallmeier uses the operating system Linux on all its recorders. It is regarded as being extremely stable in professional circles as it practically never fails. In order to further enhance stability, the operating system was separated from the hard disks and saved on a Flash-ROM. Depending on the application the failure safety can be increased as needed. This can be done for instance through a redundant recording or the use of external storage systems. No matter if they are small regional stadiums or giant arenas such as the Olympic Stadium in Athens or the Soccer City Stadium in South Africa (where the opening and closing matches of the 2010 Soccer World Cup were held), Dallmeier offers the right technology for any applications.
Intuitive operation
The systems are controlled via a professional management software, e.g. the high-performance Security Management System SeMSy®.
SeMSy® enables convenient use and management of various media data streams and also provides live playback and recording of video and audio data anywhere within the networked system SeMSy®. Operational procedures and complex controls can be stored within the system, allowing staff a highly comfortable and intuitive operation. The graphic user interface, into which site plans of the stadiums can be integrated, provides every operator a quick overview of the cameras and corresponding monitors through a graphic complete overview.
In order to make the operation even more convenient, the system can be expanded by an ergonomic video management centre, the VMC-1 “Eagle”. Clearly arranged across its three components (Joystick, Jog-Shuttle and keyboard with monitor) it combines all the functionalities that can be expected from a modern video management system. Using the Jog-Shuttle it is easy to find specific images within video sequences. By turning the Jog-Dial security operators can conveniently navigate through individual frames. The joystick of the VMC-1 “Eagle” also allows for the easy control of PTZ cameras. Pan, tilt and zoom movements can thus be carried out intuitively. What distinguishes the VMC-1 “Eagle” is the possibility to display both recorded image material as well as live pictures on the integrated monitor. Site plans and search functions can also be displayed.
Flexible for future developments
Owing to the flexible IP solutions it is no problem to work across-site so that existing stadiums can be interconnected at a later date and controlled via one joint central control station. In Greece for instance 22 stadiums run together in one control centre, the supervisor monitoring centre.
Owing to the open system architecture of the Dallmeier system the video system remains flexible and scaleable. Future expansions or modifications are easily possible. Hence the stadium solutions by Dallmeier offer long-term investment protection.
Personally for me Mighty Gor Mahia is the greatest club in the world but that said below are the achievements of TP Mazembe. Even Yanga & Simba have surpassed us in CECAFA in terms of recent success.
Were GM to achieve even half this or show signs of such success then rest assured the demand for the tickets could justify paying 300bob. The challenge is how can we match & even surpass TP

WHEN WILL SOME OF MY HONORABLE COLLEAGUES GET OFF THEIR ELITIST HIGH HORSE? RAISING THE GATE CHARGES WILL NOT STOP HOOLIGANISM.TWO REASONS
1.NOT ONLY THE ‘BHANG SMOKING KIBERANS’AS DERISIVELY POINTED OUT BY OUR WANDERING WANDERER CAUSE CHAOS AT MATCHES.MANY TIMES I HAVE SEEN THE 1000-BOB PAYING GENTLEMEN IN THE V.I.P DISRUPT MATCHES AND:
2.GUYS WILL STILL BRIBE THEIR WAY INTO THE STADIUM WITH AS LOW AS 100 BOB.AND THIS WILL BE AN EVEN MORE DANGEROUS LOT WITH LITTLE OR NOTHING TO LOSE.
MOST OF US DETEST THE HOOLIGANS WHO SIT AMONG US DURING THE MATCHES.WOULD IT NOT BE MORE REALISTIC A TACTIC AS TO PICK OUT THESE TROUBLEMAKERS AS SOON AS THEY ATTEMPT TO CAUSE SOME MISCHIEF AND EITHER DISCIPLINE THEM OURSELVES OR HAND THEM OVER TO THE LAW?
MOST WILL RANT AND RAVE ON THIS BLOG BUT BE RELUCTANT TO GO MY ROUTE!!!!!!!!
