Biyik has been studying Gor Mahia

courtesy of the Nation

Francois Omam Biyik once famously left Diego Maradona in tears, and the former striker now fears Ugandan forward Dan Sserunkuma has the potential to seek revenge for the former Argentinian national.

The former Cameroon international, who scored the lone goal to enable the Indomitable Lions defeat Argentina 1-0 in the opening match of the 1990 World Cup staged in Italy, arrived in the country on Wednesday evening, hoping to lead Gabon outfit US Bitam to victory against Gor Mahia.

The two teams lock horns in the first leg of the preliminary round of the African Champions League competition at the Nyayo Stadium starting 4pm Saturday.

“That stocky, dreadlocked striker is the pulse (of that team),” the bullish Bitam coach, who scored more than a century of goals during a 14-year professional stint that saw him turn out for Olympic Marseille, Rennes and Cannes in the French top flight said yesterday soon after arriving in Nairobi.

Meanwhile full match videos of US Bitam are available on youtube. Hopefully Gor Mahia have studied them and know what to expect.

Security in Place

Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards have put in place elaborate security measures ahead of this weekend’s continental fixtures.

Gor will be up against Gabonese side US Bitam in an African Champions League preliminary round tie tomorrow at 4pm at Nyayo National Stadium while AFC Leopards will entertain Ethiopia’s FC Defence at the same venue on Sunday.

In an interview with the Daily Nation Sport, Gor Mahia’s deputy secretary general Ronald Ngala said that more than 200 policemen on horseback from the regular and administrative wings have been mobilized for the match.

Tickets for the match will retail Sh1000 for the VIP stand while the terraces tickets will go for Sh300. The Gabonese, who are putting up at the tranquil Hill Park Hotel, held their first training session at City Stadium Thursday.

Why 1k and 300 as gate charges? Nyayo will be empty as most of us who dont take exploitations hands down, will be enjoying the match on supersport.

I have been awol and therefore didn’t watch our match against Sofapka and neither did I watch any of our friendlies. However, from what I read on this blog,I think we have a squad that’s teaming with football brains and talent. What they still lack,I think,is team chemistry and those doesn’t come overnight.I want to implore Kogalo fans to support this team in all situations.Lose or Win.If we’ll resort to violence and blackmail everytime we lose a match then, believe you me we might as well not have a club called Gor.I am sure the FKL officialdom is fed up with our antics and very soon they will ban Gor.Those of us who think of Gor as an indispensable asset to both FKL and KPL should wake up from their drunken stupor and smell the coffee. What sponsor would want to associate with a club whose fans are a law to themselves?Isn’t Tuzo sponsorship ending in March and so far there is white smoke coming out EC?And when we fail to land one we will be the first to shout from the rooftops about the inefficiency of EC.Honestly, how can an adult steal a plastic and feel no guilt?Shame! How do you call yourself a Kogalo fan when what brings you to the stadium is to throw stones at your enemies, both real and imaginable? If this is what it means to be a Kogalo fan then am afraid our slide toward social disorder and social dispondency is is worse than imagined.

Let the team play natural attacking and organized football.
To me losing or drawing and even losing altogether are normal football results. But aiming to win should be evident in the pitch.

The Kenya national soccer team has always had a good run over Gabon and Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions. Even as early as when that team boasted of Manga Onguene, Theophile Abega and one teenager Albert Roger Mila, they still had to struggle before beating Kenya in Nairobi.

Then came the thriller that was the Rumble in the Great Rift Valley during the 4th All Africa Games. Then, a Star-studded Indomitable Lions comprising Oman Biyik, Kana Biyik his brother, Joseph Antoinne Bell, Ebwele, the great Emmanuel Kunde, Solomon Olembe, Jeremy Njitap, Etame Meyer and other who-is-whos, but with Kenya fielding a squad made up of 7 K’Ogalo players in the first eleven, we still secured a memorable and well-deserved 3-3 draw.

Come to Gor Mahia, Dragon’s Oumme came calling with so much mbwembwe, hanjam, gusto and very oversize white shorts to go with it, but did we not humble them in our green “Adidas” kit at the very same Nyayo stadium?

Team Gor Mahia I have cited these bits of history for you to draw inspiration. It was done before and it is do-able even now. Therefore boys, do not be overawed. The game is ours to lose especially now that Ingo is ingoneering added support from the Den.

On the 300/= entry I think that is fair considering that it’s from these fund that we need to raise airfare as well as hotel charges for the visitors.
At times we must struggle for our team. Were this game in Tz or UG fans would be parting with a minimum of 600/=.

@Dan Original, i’m sure we can not be complaining about many if not everything and expect some good out of it.

I only wish that ‘all of us’ could pay the gate charges. By this i mean everyone intending to watch the match! Sometimes it becomes logical to net Kshs. 200/- or 150/- from 9k than Kshs.300/- from one thousand fans,it even makes more football sence to get averagely from many people that much from far less crowd. Remember in Kenya Futaa is regarded a low income earners’ game.

But let all endeavour to pay the gate charges tomorrow.

Omam Biyik has alot of hot air, he should not tell us when to score or else…….!! He is running scared and that’s why he wants to engage in media wars. I strongly believe in the coach and the tech bench, let the boys settle very fast and get to business quickly. Teamwork, brilliance, sharpness and aggressiveness upfront are the attributes that will see us through. To the fans, let’s all cheer the team to the end. Go K’Ogallo Go…. history is on our side.

This match is a make or break so players should give it their best. If we win it will be a morale booster for the start of the season.

I think the team looks good except that Emuge is still too slow and should be shifted to position 2 instead of being the last man so that Calabar and Musa can play central defense and then Walusumbi can continue in left back. Anyway I hope the technical bench has noted the loopholes at the back and will do something before our tomorrow’s match…

On hooliganism, I think it’s now becoming too much and some people think it’s normal. Let me warn you that it will look ‘normal’ until that day you will lose a relative or your life so let us conduct ourselves with respect and restrains.

Let us not think about goal but play good soccer and the goal will came naturally. If players are focused on scoring early goal, then fail to do so, frustration come in.It is even better to score in the third end this makes opponent to panic and many goals can be scored thereafter.
Remember our goal against sofapaka last season. It was joyful.

Those very sensational & media biased headlines after we played the Charity Cup are not my concern at all except for the long awaited match against the Gabon Champions in the name of “Union Sportive De Bitam”.

“Omam Biyik” there is no need of mind games. Let the talking be on the pitch with 22 players . PERIOD…!!!

    I want to read a very opposite and different headline as regards Gor Mahia F.C; who Biyik knows the inside story about their “NOISY FANS” starting this SUNDAY;

    Gor …………………ANNIHILATE…………
    Gor………………… THRASH………..
    Gor………………… DESTROY…………
    Gor………………….DEMOLISH………..

BEST OF LUCK TEAM “MAYIENGA” AS WE NAVIGATE IN AFRICA.

@Cafootball, my comrade I do hereby humbly welcome you to the most storied team in this region of Africa.

It is not by default that you are blogging in this site; but by virtue of Gor Mahia just being a team that even none other than FIFA President Sep Blatter do recognizes in the global audience of CHAMPIONS in African continent. Gor Mahia has “FOLLOWERS” you being inclusive based on the fact that Gor were 1987 champs.

Thank you exhuming that very painful defeat that K’ogalo inflicted your team in 1987. And that was then when we were playing “Mandela Cup”, but now this is a very different scenario. “CAF CHAMPIONSHIP 2014”

We have just been hibernating for the last 18 years and how i long for that “GRUDGE MATCH” once we sort out the Gabonese from Bitam in round one.

Let GM especially Jagoal remain calm. Remember you’ve 90mins within which 2 score 2/ more goals.
Of equal /even more importance is denying Bitam the crucial/prized away goal.
Its my hope that EC has put in measures that will ensure that everyone pays the full entry fee @ the gate. 2 the hooligans may u b arrested kesho.
Go 4 a comfortable win Mighty Gor & take us past the preliminaries.

@Ja Gor we play on Sato and not sunday when shemejis play.

Guys, have you realised how all of a sudden all the ugly incidents from the Charity Cup have now been lumped onto Gor. All the media houses are now focusing on the ‘goons’ in green forgetting the ones in blue. Unfortunately we don’t seem to learn as if we are brainless. How I wish I was a law enforcer knowing very well the language Kenyans understand. Pick them goons one by one on their way home, in matatus , at school , at work and ensure you have the media to show the arrests and subsequent jailing. That way even the hardcore ones will coil back. I have seen that working with alcoblow and no one dares to share how they are daredevil where the alcoblow guys are on check. In fact some would be seen taking fanta and the same approach is what we want done to these goons. Teargassing a whole stadium has literally no effect as Gor fans we are now getting used to being teargassed at each and every game by the tear-gas happy security forces. How about detaining these goons on a match day at the police station everytime there is a gor/afc match, releasing them at 7:00 pm when the match is over? Really feeling betrayed but these goons as they will affect our team financially as we will end up losing our sponsor as well as the paying fans. Maybe the EC has not seen this. As it is the powers-that-be are happy seeing the fans(goons) destroy their beloved team and making a fool of themselves providing enough fodder for stereotyping them

The most meaningless statement in the world today is that made by football officials be they our EC, FKF/TPL in conjunction with the police that security @ a match involving GM/AFC will be gauranteed. Just as useless is the one that 200/300 two/four legged police officers will be on duty.
That said 2 add on D.Orig’s comments y not have sniffer dogs pick out the bang smoker ‘s at the entrance, alco-blow/frisking 2 similarly detect the drunks who r arrested b4 the match & charged in court come….

Monday. If the press truly wants 2 help let them film the happenings @ the gate & ensure any arrests made make it 2 court on Monday by showing the suspects being prosecuted. This is 2 prevent release of the “human waste” over the weekend. Gor’s EC+SSMB if they r not part of this cartel cn also re-enforce these efforts by investing mobile CCTV cameras at the entrance instead of the nonsense of 9.1million annual gate collections yet our matches are packed. Otherwise this thing seems pre-arranged.
