Bobby Williamson has plenty of work

Newly hired Scottish coach Bobby Williamson expressed his excitement as he started work on Tuesday afternoon.“I’m excited to coach a big club like Gor Mahia. There will, definitely, be a lot of pressure, which is the nature of our job, and I will strive to contain it,” he said.

“I know Gor Mahia fans are very passionate and vocal, especially when things are not going their way, but my job here is to make them happy. I want the entire Gor Mahia family to grow and fill stadiums knowing there will be good results.” Williamson told the Daily Nation.

He comes at a time when despite the fact that club is second in the standings, the play of the team ha snot been inspired. Gor Mahia have struggled to win games this season. Most of the time they eke out a 1-0 win or a score-less draw. Goals have been hard to come by. The midfield has been below par thus starving the attack . Also the tactic every team has employed against Gor Mahia this season has been to park the bus and Gor Mahia have been unable to find answers. The only shining light has been the defence and the goalkeeping. One can make the argument that Jerry “Jagoal” Onyango has been the best player in the team this season.

Williamson thus has work cut out in terms of finding a way to pep up the midfield and sharpen the attack. Certain players have had below par performances. Kevin Omondi looked very promising in 2011 when at age 19, he already made it to the starting line-up of the national team. He has had some brilliant moments but overall has failed to maintain consistency. Anthony Akumu too has been rather inconsistent. At age 19, he too was in the national team. So good was he that he earned trials in Denmark. Williamson must find a way to get the best out of these players on a consistent basis. There is also players like Mutiso whose pace on the wing can be a handful as well as the creative “Gaucho”. However so far this year, the club has not gotten the best out of these players. The midfield has been dire. And there have been certain matches where Gor Mahiawere so disjointed that they  could not string more than three passes together.

And with the firepower that Gor Mahia has upfront, there is no reason Kogalo should be struggling to score against the likes of Karuturi. Williamson with his vast experience is the man for the job. Chairman Ambrose Rachier expressed confidence in the new coach.  “The coach is well travelled with a very good performance in the teams he has coached. As Gor we are looking forward to enjoying his experience and taking our club to the next level.” Rachier told michezoafrika.com

Discipline

Williamson emphasized the importance of discipline.

“They must have discipline for us to achieve our collective dream. We cannot allow players be late or absent themselves from training without a valid reason.

“The players, as well as the technical bench, must carry themselves with professionalism. That is how we will realise our objective. I think that is an easy-enough working philosophy.” he told the Daily Nation

Welcome to Gor Mahia family. It’s good Williamson has emphasized the importance of discipline. I feel some of the GM players are not shining because of their off-the-pich behaviors.

This season we want to win this trophy in style. To all fans let us give Mr. Williamson space to pick up from where Logarusic left; I know with support from EC, players, technical bench and fans, Williamson can do much better than Lugarusic- watch this space.

His first assignment should be to train players to play in a ‘locked match’ that is our major weakness. Secondly, he’ll need to strengthen our mid-field with time

Williamson was a striker and i hope he will improve this department. Good luck!

  • The strength of kogallo over the years has always been wing players….20 – 25 years down the line we still have them in abundance – serrenkuma, lavatsa, kevin omondi, moses odhiambo, mutiso, oboya e.t.c. e.t.c….

If the coach can come up with a formation that leverage this strength , omera then the other premier league clubs should be very wary !!!!!!!

@Walter, it is Sir Bobby who picked up from where Logarusic left. Now Bobby should continue from where Sir Bobby has reached. If the transfer window was still open I’d have encouraged him to sign Adel Amrouche in our midfield. The guy is still young and can bring in artistry and efficiency that that department so much desires. Yes, Amrouche!

Well come Bob, I hope the ever slippery league trophy is now ours for the taking coz you are one of the best coaches around and Gor is ateam with some of the best players in the country backed by the fact that Gor supplies to the national team more than half of the squad. We are going to give you the support you need but deliver to us the price.

@ 4 Barefoot Bandit – it’s true John Bobby Ogolla was the one who took over from Logarusic; thanks for the correction. Nevertheless I have faith Bobby Williamson will instill good discipline to the team and control some of the officials who don’t have club at heart. Lakini umeninimaliza sana juu ya story ya Amrouche….anyway cheers.

  • I want to add my voice in welcoming Bob Williamson. The language will not be an issue since it is not a different language that our players are not used to. We will indeed give him support as K’Ogalo family. As he said, discipline is key to any progress. Our players am sure will always take this to heart.May the beautiful game bring more people to the stadium.I can not wait what the double Bob fire power will unleash in Gor Mahia.

@ Barefoot Bandit, I can read in between the lines of your post above. In fact the reason why AMROUCHE had frequent nightmares with H/Stars was because LOGA denied him the chance to interact with and exploit the talents of KOGALO players.

“K’GALO IS THE HOME TALENTS FOR A DISCIPLINED FOOTBALLER”

How do you explain his current squad and performance at COSAFA. This guy ” Amrouche ” is simply making a bold statement with regard to local soccer talent and teamwork.

The only player missing and wasting his talent is K14. Daddy “ADE” be serious with your career as you are still young enough not to be restless and wasted at this time and moment.

GIVE AMROUCHE 75% of K’OGALO and 25% from the rest and he will be home and dry.

HE MIGHT LIFTS “THE COSAFA-OKOMBE” MIRACULOUSLY.

  • Welcome Bobby Williams! As O.T put it, suddenly everyone is in cloud nine by your successful application for the job of head coach of mighty K’galo. Admin. has said it all.
For fans the anticipation is of titles galore, stylish soccer & plently goals coz you take charge when GM is 2nd in the log compared to when Loga/Sir Bob took us from position 12 to 2nd.THX GENTLEMEN
For our EC(Be very weary of this lot) the financial windfall as a consequence of packed stadia must be their main motivator

@Walter, O’Trailer and Oduor12 ni kweli kabisa. I hope our revamped Tech Bench is monitoring the on-goings in Zambia where Gor Mahia players are turning out for Shisha Stars in competitive matches daily. Our Tech Bench should appreciate that these players will be weary or at worst (and God forbid), will pick up injuries that may lay them off for awhile. The way forward is develop another deadly squad around Jatowel, The Israeli, Odhis Dube, Mosoti and the likes of K14, so that when our Zambian exports come back they will be accorded ample time to rest even as we continue to download points from very unwilling opponents.

One other thing: of late things are happening at K’Ogalo in doubles. What with the double ‘Bobbys’ and now a double ‘Dan’ in the blogpost! My worry is I don’t know ni yupi ndiye ‘Dan’ wetu na yupi ndiye mgeni. One passes as Dan while the other goes as ‘dan’. Can someone shed some light on this concern?

Welcome Sir Bobby Williamson.I was very happy when u were hired. But I want u to know that u ‘ve just landed in a very hot seat. This is a very hot seat and dont even compare it with that of national team.We as fans we know that in football there is always three results but we only accept one which is a win.If we draw even twice consecutively then u will just see how dejected we live the stadium. What I am trying to tell u is that this is the hottest seat in this region bcos this club is owned by fans .

@13 Bandit…….my concern exactly. With the way the matches in COSAFA are being played, our players will be very tired when they get back especially the infield players!

Let the Bobbys prepare and rally the rest of the squad to take up the mantle when the league resumes.Let other players be given the chance to also prove their worth as we give the Stars players a chance to recuperate!!!All the best to the team!!

  • I too want to take the opportunity to welcome Bobby, as he joins Sir Bobby. Between the two of them, I believe we have a good team that should take the team to greater height. Of cource there will be bumps in the road as we go for the title, but let’s learn to take the good and the bad as they come, and keep our focus on the ultimate prize.
The other area that the two Bobbys can help us with is development of a youth/feeder program. Sometime back I heard that Gor was partnering with Upper Hill School – what ever became of that grand scheme??

Good questions from @Kamau wa Njoroge. We need to blend the experienced and the novices in one team. Now we have the youngsters like Gaucho, Wanyonyi and Bataro to groom. Let’s groom them the way Sianga’s boys were groomed. Now that we have two Dans, dan has been converted to Dan Original

@Benson Disi there you go again with your madness. The name Ogwang’ cannot be used on any human being. There is no way any human being can be referred to as a wild cat. If you thought that Ogwang’ refers to the Luhya nation and the Abana ba Luhya then you are dead wrong: just as wrong as you were when you misinformed Nigerians that Lodwar borders the Republic of Somalia. Kindly note, Mr Benson Disi, that we as the Gor Mahia community have profound respect for the Abaluhya and that is the reason we co-exist with them peacefully as in-laws. Note as well that Ogwang’ is a time honored, well-intentioned and respectable pet-name for a wild cat. Now you and I know that Leopards belong to the cat family, only that they are wild. I suggest that you don’t refer to Edu or any other Luhya player in Gor Mahia as such. I know your intentions but may I advice you to be contented with what you have.

@oswozo, Ugandans have English as a primary language of communication while Kenyans have Swahili. You therefore expect Kenyans to struggle a bit. But dont well on this too much. Have you watched Gor’s captains (Awilo in the past and Jerry presently) giving post match interviews in English? Sometimes I pray it is not being aired.

Granted @P Mawego above…I wish you watch either Mike BARRY Baraza, Martin Imbalabala or Kimani INGWE giving post match interviews then you know that Bobby Williamson would have fitted very well in the AFC LEOPARDS camp and not GOR due to IQ Issues!!! I also think this attributes to the likes of BIG VICTOR WANYAMA’s ascend to EPL (top of the world soccer) all the way from AFC LEOPARDS SC of Kenya after having excelled in Scotland (Bob Williamson’s country)league at Celtic fc.
