Calabar rallies team-mates

Gor Mahia defender David Owino has urged his teammates to put Monday’s humiliating defeat to Esperance behind them and focus on Sunday’s Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match against Western Stima, at City Stadium.
The KPL champions were handed a 5-0 thrashing by the Tunisian giants to crash out of the Caf Champions League on an 8-2 aggregate.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the Harambee Stars defender said what happened at the Olympique Stade de Rades is now history.
“To be honest I would like to avoid talking about history like the Esperance game, but it happens. All we can do now is focus on what is ahead of us,” Owino told the club’s official website.
“It’s important we took our first six points in the league and now we can move up and look forward to the next game against Western Stima,” he added. “We need to forget about the two games against Esperance. Tunis was an experience against a big team, they were very good against us and we took one or two learnings which I believe will be helpful in our league title defense.”
“We must now react in a positive way in the league. I’m not dwelling on it and hopefully none of the other players are dwelling on it,” he added.
Sserunkuma denies Mazembe link
The Ugandan import has revealed to Goal that he has no intentions of leaving K’Ogalo and has termed reports linking him to the DRC club as rumours
Gor Mahia forward Dan Sserunkuma has refuted reports linking him to TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Sserunkuma said on Thursday he is in Gor Mahia to stay and such reports were mere rumours. The Ugandan striker has reportedly been on the radar of the Congolese club following a fine form with Gor Mahia in the last two seasons and they are ready to offer him an offer during the mid-season transfer window.
“I am very happy at Gor Mahia and want to help them win another title. I am not thinking of going anywhere else and such reports are mere speculations,” Sserunkuma told Goal.
Sserunkuma scored two goals for K’Ogalo even as they were edged out of Caf Champions League tournament 8-2 on aggregate by Esperance of Tunisia and he insisted they have learnt a lot to do better next season.
“It was a learning opportunity for us and we hope to build on it for an even better performance in future.”
I have never talked about the Tunis debacle and I do not want to now, TB is capable of taking the positives while addressing the negatives. I agree with Calabar here, accept and move on, that was not end of life as a club and as players you must focus on the next games without being nagged by the past. Good attitude Owino and other player must emulate this. I also agree with coach BW that Western Stima may be the ones to take the backlash…ummmh yaa and why not, they are not Esperance.Lets MOOOOVE.
Wishful thinking Ja Thur gi ji…! What happened to AFC vs MUHORONI ? TPL is not a walk in the park and the earlier BW realizes that his tactical acumen is very predictable and stoppable the better. Not that Esperance are extra superior but the TB slept on the job.
Deleted due to personal insults
sorry to be irrelevant bt am just overexcited.KEROCHE KEROCHE KEROCHE
Thank you Calabar.Your advice is timely and as you say, may it the whole Team’s resolve as we get down to busyness.See you on Sunday, God willing.
If Esperence is the same team we played at Nyayo then there is nothing special. We underated them on return leg and you could see it from how Bobby Ogola was talking before the baptism by fire ‘they were lucky to escape…’ Just look at the formation we played in Tunis and you will know what I’m talking about.
That aside, let us focus on the local league.
@ 3 levelmind fan – there is no point insulting Ogango Trailer; he has said the truth. Did you want him to say we did well? After we were beaten we were now talking about how much the Esperance players earn and that to me doesnt help. Doe it mean when we almost beat them in first leg at Nyayo they were earning less?
K’Ogalo are in advanced stage to secure a sponsorship deal with Keroche Breweries Ltd and the lucrative package could be unveiled soon
Gor Mahia are an advanced stage to secure a lucrative sponsorship deal with Keroche Breweries Limited, Goal can exclusively report.
A source close to the Kenyan champions has revealed that K’Ogalo is nearing a deal with the brewing company, who will come in to replace Tuzo, who withdrew sponsorship.
“Yes we have held talks with Keroche and I want to confirm that it is very positive. Soon we will be putting pen to paper a contract with the company. It will be a good relief for the club because Tuzo have terminated shirt sponsorship,” said our source.
The source also confirmed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was behind the deal. “He (Raila) started negotiations and left officials to conclude with the company and I am happy we are almost there.”
Keroche Breweries Limited was launched on October 24, 2008, by Raila Amollo Odinga. It culminated many years of patience and hard work as history was made by the launch of the first Kenyan fully owned brewing company.
If the deal goes through, it will be a major breakthrough for Gor Mahia, who recently secured another sponsorship package with Chase Bank worth Sh15 million.
Where is the Sacco account? Am sure by now we would have put in a few millions. This is the sustainable thing to do.
OK , all said. Build facilities now.
Abwoga i dont think the coach underrated them, from the lineup u could see he tried to play a oluoch/akumu on the left to cover our left back whenever he went 4ward coz that was where all the damage was done in the 1st leg.The coach talking abt salaries and facilities i believe he was telling the kogallo fraternity we need to invest on the club and build the team, mind you this team is only 2months old in terms of jelling 2gether,mambo ya instant success ni bahati
Let me ask all those who blame the coach n rubbish his exchuses…y do u think ronaldo is in real, rvp in man utd, cavanni in psg, closer home wanyama in saints..were on trial to Sa.cox jst like in day job,u follow the money and terms..nothin good is free and ma sure u know all dis bt u jst like blamin the coach..invest in da club, get the best player( note couldnt even afford
the zambaian).invest in structures not wishfull thinkin!
Yes, but people will stop wishful thinking when they come of age. Actually from this blog you can readily deduce and judge for yourself those who understand a bit of what a game is and those who are ever interested in blaming everyone and anything.
Its even more interesting to know that the same bloggers are very much aware that the biggest of the big in world club football scene have been handed the same 5 nil or more thrashing at their level by opponents of late.
Now that GM iko na wenyewe ..The wenyewes just go ahead, sack BW and satisfy yourselves we will continue with your new appointee. I am saying this because the cheer leaders of this sack and sack bandwagon were close proponents of the current EC leaders and hopefully have an influence on some decision making and will have a say in such TB replacement.
@Levelmind there’s no need for personal attacks on anyone, bro this is GM.
@ Kassam Mwivangano please read and internalize my post with a sober mind. I have not advocated for the sacking of the coach as you are trying to allude. My position is very clear that BW has to take responsibility and up his game.
TPL 2014 will not be a bed of roses and as a matter of fact GOR style of play will be very predictable to the extent that even the likes of TOP FRY will deploy the same tactical approach like Esperance and carry the day without much struggle.
IT IS A WAKE UP CALL & JUST THAT. Ask Ayub Timbe what he has experienced with SOFAPAKA despite the much favored title contender tag. Its not about the big name GOR but the kind of tactics and strategies that are deployed. The problem is this style of “PATIA SSEREKUMA” and when it fails then “PURA BOLI MBELE”
Gentlemen i think we av lost our head before and after Gor elections am just wondering what has happened to the wonderful Analyses we used to read here we used to read a wonderful post from people like Mwakio,Oduor,Ongango Lorry(Trailer)kassam, the one soffaset branch member, pod antie,Olando Buoga and Jathur gi ji just to mention but a few my friends what has happened this year? surely we r just more on criticizing than providing solutions as we used to do before,my prayer is lets sober up please please if its because of the last election lets forget it and more on Donge
Ogango trailer, please hold your horse for a moment.these boyz have gained invaluable lessons frm the Esparance thrashing. To allude that we will lose even to Top fry stars is going too far.lets all support this mighty club wholeheartedly!!!!
The “know it all”, now you dont want passes getting to Sserenkuma. Who won you the league last season ?
@Sylvester i understand the Trailerman now, he does not mean that at all. But O’Trailer be informed that there’s a way you put your point that makes you sound like barbaric fellows whistling and booing the tech bench for subs at any mistake! Actually i would advocate for stability in the tech bench and playing unit for consecutive seasons to consolidate cohesion and understanding in the pitch for the future. The five match deadline is never healthy leave alone being relevant to any development. Remember GM won in ’87 with a well calculated build up not a quick fix the Kenyan style where coaches are the only problem. I urge GM fans to allow time for ‘growing’ a team.
Mwaah! comments nayo?…zinanibamba joh..nwei kogalo juu, mshow DEVO 2kogangari, operation zima stima is the motto in our nxt game…jowadwa ni 2 vle team inanibamba yaani squad iko poa…2dfnd the champion,nd l blv we gonna make it au sio ? mit naa
Thank-you O.T now that your appeal for soberness seems to be bearing fruit, let me take the opportunity to clarify some misconceptions being peddled against the “know it all”, formerly the GM’s Hell’s branch due to what I’d attribute to negative/selective reading of certain bloggers’ forthright comments derisively labelled complaints.
English definition of “better the devil you know (than the devil/angel you don’t)”
UK saying› said when you think it is wiser to deal with someone or something familiar, although you do not like them, than to deal with someone or something that you do not know, that might be worse.
Only the obstinate refused to see the fact that AR (despite his opaqueness/administrative/structure inadequacies) had manipulated himself into pole position in the just concluded elections.
That AR was at election time still a favourite among GM members was proved by the fact that his trounced his only challenger by 400 votes.
The “5 match deadline” simply is no deadline but rather means that within that number serious competitive games we (the GM fratenity) should be able to get a feeling whether we’ll annihilate the competition (despite the odd slip ups) or we’ll struggle. As OT puts it BW will really have to pull “the rabbit out of the hat” to recapture the league in style and make a impact in CECAFA. THERE IS NO WAY THAT GM CAN MATCH THE ESPERANCE SALARIES BUT THEN AGAIN GM FINANCIALLY GM IS GAPS AHEAD OF 80% OF THE TPL TEAMS SO BY HIS LOGIC WE EXPECT BIG WINS. GIVE HIM TIME YOU SAY BUT WHAT NEW THING CAN HE DO THAT HE HAS’NT DONE IN PAST YEAR.I WISH HIM WELL AND AWAIT THE PLEASANT SURPISE.
Odour12@…do u recalk loga was the darlin of the crowd bt wen results never came his way u turned against him..now BW gave u wat u couldnt achieve in 18 yrs bt still the dare devil in some still still call for his blood..five matches u say..do u know GM in da last yrs has never won two of its openin matches bt alas dat wont cool ur hungry blood suckin semantics..so i join ur bandwagon..sack the coach cox he doesnt hv da rabbit in his hat..re emloy zico, loga or even anatha unknown bt am afraid hx will repeat itself..so go odour go odour!
@ Realjay u may have somepoint but where does Zico come in? Pliz search the archives & u will know my position as regards Zico coaching GM.
GM’s inability 2 win the league in 18 years was mainly due to mismanagement of the club. At least AR has managed 2 correct that my only beef with him is he refusal to adopt structures that would see GM bcom a regional if not continental powerhouse. Ideas like the Sacco if u get my drift, curbing corruption etc.
Now look @ “King” David’s approach & BW’s…..
Instead of complaining about Esperance’s structures/ budget & facilities being light years ahead of GM’s why hasn’t anybody looked at the possiblity that Rudi Krol’s tactical ability being light years ahead of BW’s. Timbe, even Nandwa defeated him.
My friends like it or not BW didn’t join GM the other day lets see what impact he’ll NOW make against financially weak TPL sides. I wish him well but based on what i’ve seen am not holding my breath.
Will be it ooh teams r defensive against GM etc etc.
@ODUOR12 I like your comments, the positive and negative.
At some point you provide what you think that can be a solution that is perfect. Now on TB especially BW as you have mentioned, what do you think is the best way forward?
Look at teams like Yanga or Simba for axample. They change Coaches like pants, have that helped them? Can’t we think outside the box?
i think i should start drinking the fortified beer…you know what i am talking about
Surely there must be something the EC and the TB must be doing right. Otherwise we would not be seeing the multitude of fans we see week in week out attending our matches. Some of our fans at terms demand the impossible yet at the same time they are the cause of the woes facing the club
ODUOR12 .MAY I ASK YOU A QUESTION? HAVE YOU EVER COACHED EVEN A KINDERGATEN SOCCER TEAM? PLEASE TELL BW THE RIGHT TACTICS TO USE SINCE YOU BELIEVE THOSE HE HAS USED TO GET A 100% START TO THE SEASON ARE WRONG.
YOU USED TO COMPLAIN THAT GOR NEVER HAD AN INSURANCE SCHEME FOR PLAYERS AND WHEN THIS BLOG ANNOUNCED THE CHASE DEAL YOU SHIFTED GOAL POSTS AND SAID THAT THE SPONSOR WAS WITHDRAWING AND THE MEDICAL SCHEME WOULD BE USELESS WITHOUT SALARIES.NOW THAT SPONSORSHIP IS BEING TIED UP WHAT’S GONNA BE YOUR NEW BEEF? WHY DO U THINK MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS RILED BY YOUR COMMENTS? COULD ALL OF THEM BE WROPNG AND YOU AND A FEW OF UA CHEERLEADERS RIGHT?
ODUOR 12 is like a nagging wife, just forget about him and have your peace
@ Sam Muga as an administrative measure I feel EC should move our training base from City Stadium. Its too open and methinks some wily opposing coaches/teams are able to read our strategies. BW is an experienced coach, he knows that he is to be judged by results not excuses. He know his forwards are short so are long balls ideal. He has a pitch, balls and players what more does he need! Strategy, game plan, studying opponents are his forte that’s why he’s the highest paid TPL coach.
@ Simplicity how does coaching a kindergarten soccer team arise?
Have you coached kids and if you have so what?
Is GM a nusery school soccer team!
Try and watch how your so called EPL/Bayern apply the pressing game in that the defensive strategy of opponents finally crack. Hopeful shots from 30 yards or long balls rarely work.
Try watching like proper soccer instead of nusery football matches and you’ll see what I mean.
@ Sylvester having nothing to reason or counter has opted for direct abuse. Somehow you think you are the only one will the skill/right!
All I can say a good medical scheme is GM players’ rights, good salary is GM players’ rights. EC is not doing them a favour. However all I asked was a simple question does a medical cover put food on the table/pay house rent or school fees for the players children but as usual your mind interpreted it that I was attacking the scheme per se.
My vision is to see GM on a sound financial footing and I feel the membership/Sacco idea is a panacea to this.
Enough said let’s agree to give BW space it won’t take long b4 we if he’s going to bring us trophies.
