David Owino on target as Kenya edge Namibia

David Owino with Jamal Mohamed in action against Namibia

David Owino, popularly known as “Calabar” or “Jashirati” continued his recent scoring form when he scored an early goal to enable Harambee Stars to beat Namibia 1-0. The win was the first one for Harambee Stars in this round of qualifiers. It lifted them from bottom of the group into 3rd position with six points. The goal came when Owino volleyed home a Francis Kahata corner.

Owino and Lavatsa were the two Kogalo players in action. Owino was active throughout surging forward to create chances and falling back to keep the Namibians at bay. Towards the end of the first half, he found Dennis Oliech with a cross. Oliech’s resulting header appeared headed into the goal before the Namibian keeper parried it for a corner.

As Harambee Stars were already out, coach Adel Amrouche was using the match as a friendly to build the team. Stars were also playing for pride since Namibia had beaten them in the first leg. All in all it was an average performance. There were periods when Namibia completely dominated possession. But because they could not penetrate the Stars rear-guard, goalkeeper Duncan Ochieng was hardly tested. Indeed the defence was once again  the bright spot for Harambee stars.

Kenya fans will rue the disorganization at FKF  and lack of government support that has seen them fall short yet again. Kogalo fans will be hoping that Amrouche does not lure Owino to the Middle East as he has been doing lately with other Stars players.

Owino aka calabar because of his versatility will definitely go far……….but am worried about Edwin lavatsa. Is this lavatsa guy over hyped or what ? Hardly play 90 mins , hardly creates chances and rarely scores yet he is an attacker……..

David Owino really played well; as for Lavatsa it was not a good day for him. I think if Amrouche is given time Kenya can be somewhere.

    Haile “King” David. Asante.
@ Jakoyo, my concerns exactly- Love-A-Star has generally not developed into the explosive player despite great potential and innate abilities. Is this rough diamond polishable or will forever remain just a stone.
