Esperance match raises Ksh 2.6 million

courtesy of futaa.com

Ksh 2.6 Million was raised from the ticket sales of the CAF Champions League match pitting Kenyan champions Gor Mahia and Tunisian side Esperance.

This has been confirmed by the club’s Secretary-General, Chris Omondi. Each V.I.P section ticket was going for Ksh 1000 while those for the terraces section cost Ksh 200 each.

More could have been raised from the match but cases of fake tickets being sold on some designated ticket selling points were rampant and word has it that some club officials were behind it.

Hope

Chris, who took over from George Bwana, has in the meantime congratulated the players for putting a solid display against their much fancied opponents.

-They (players) gave a good performance and I salute them. We gifted them three easy goals maybe out of naivety and reckless blunders but outplayed them in every department, Chris told futaa.com,

-We are hoping to perform better in the return leg and advance to the next stage, he added.

  • Facts about esperance of Tunisia playing at home……

    1. They score on average of 2 goals per game at their home stadium.

    2. They score on average just after halftime, 54 minutes per game at their home stadium.

So what do we expect from the gor Mahia game, it will definitely not be a dull game, expect a lot of goals and if gor Mahia can contain esperance for the first 75 mins without conceading a goal, then there could be a big surprise in the offering. But this assuming, the can score 2 goals in the last 15 minutes.

Now you see how tall the mountain is !!!! Good luck the boys.

It’s good if we can carry along the ‘fringe’ players to witness the hostile atmosphere for them to know what hurdles there are when we don’t win comprehensively at home. It also brings out the issue of belonging to all of them. By the way do we still need the same officials who went to Gabon in this trip? Can’t we replace someone like Ngala with a player even if the player won’t play. While officials can bring tension to the players fellow players really motivate each other in hostile situations. Ama ni shopping trip for some of the officials

  • It gives me great confidence with the inclusion of Calabar. This adds a big rock to our deffence. With the back locked, Esperance will find the going not very easy. Instinctively, I feel Esperance will loose even if they still qualify with some margin or goal advantage.

How can we collect a paltry kes2.6m while Yanga collects kes24m!!! Are kenyans poorer the tanzanians? Have hooligans won the battle to keep fans away from the stadium? Or have some of our EC succeeded in selling fake tickets and stealing from the kitty by whichever means? Charity begins at home. When will we prove accountability before courting sponsors? We need to run our own affairs. Lets buy tickets from a bank or through Channels that can be audited. Lets see if the EC can accede to this, if they are really serious.

One of the reasons TZ collects alot of money is that footy is not cheap there. You will pay a minimum of 500 bob for the derby Nd international games. In Kenya we even complain when it’s 300 bob and the team is a community team like gor and afc. TZ fans also really support their teams. Here in Kenya you find s fan in gor or ingwe outfit but eantd yo enter free or bribe at the gate. Ther
same fan will still demand 110% from the players that he/she is “robbing”. The officials do not make it even better. Look at the list going to Tunisia at the expense of some players. How do we motivate the Kariuki/kopany/bataro? Give them a trip to Tunis and drop the joyriders. Only the TB , chair/vice and doctor needs to be in th is trip unless we are as Esperance

I believe the Tunisians will not attempt the archaic intimidatory antics of the West Africans on us. What Bobby Williamson’s team should brace for is the match being played in an extremely cold Mediterranean night under floodlights. For this reason, it would be wise for the team to train prepare for floodlit conditions and also to carry along long-sleeved jerseys. Those two are the only factors that may win the match for Esperance if not addressed. Many a time, Kenya national team has complained of playing in very cold weather in North Africa. We all know that desert temperatures can fall so low at night. Please stay warned.

it’s embarrasing that in tanzania they collect more match day revenue than kenya though the sheer fact that they have bigger numbers plays a key role. We complain about ticket prices yet in rugby they pay more to watch basically small sides in the saf sevens.
I believe football is poorly packaged in kenya leave alone administration. It is clear only a strong members org will bring improvement-same as al ahly/cs sfaxien

  • I am a very sad man after reading this post. Why should I continue paying Kshs 1,000 for a match when it seems it will end up in an individual’s pocket. From my own estimation, the match should have netted not less than Kshs 5m. VIP was already full before those called Raila die hards sneaked in free when he entered. So that is at least 2m. The terraces were 60% full meaning not less than 20,000 people were there. This office seems to be eating more than even the past one. How can they say sabotage? Who is in charge here? I am almost calling for a boycott so that these guys can learn but will that not put players in more trouble. How can we make these guys accountable? Can someone help here? Should we evict them crudely the way I have seen some people evicted from office in the past?

The first manipulated gate collections is 2.6m, then at the year end the EC will claim that only 9.1m was raised.
Surely Dan.O is it the fans who print fake tickets sold @ Kenya Cinema.
JGJ & P Mawego those are pertinent issues raised, I ask fellow bloggers shld we give EC time 2 mismanage the club 4 now coz they were elected just the other day.

Ooh Laa Laaa aa…!! ” IT’S NOT YET OVER UNTIL AFTER 90 MINUTES IN TUNISIA”.

Since the return match is slowly turning out to be one of the fancied African continental derbies involving the far East and the up North club champions with some real historical connotation based on an awe-inspiring experience from the initial encounter in 1997, then Gor Mahia will definitely approach the match with an intention to turn the tables on the highly favored Esperance. And it is very much possible and likely to happen.

The match ended 3-2 in favor of Esperance and they did celebrate as if the return leg will be a formality , while our boys trooped together in the middle of the pitch so much down graded wondering what had be fallen them. And the answer was clear to all of them; That it was not an ordinary match like any other team in the whole of Africa. But it was a high stake continental derby match that can only be decided after 180 plus minutes irrespective of the score line after the first leg. The fact that a return match with 90 minutes of playing time still awaits Esperance in Tunis with non other K’Ogalo makes me believe that this match IS NOT YET OVER UNTIL IT IS OFFICIALLY DECLARED OVER. Expect a surprise.

I believe that Gor Mahia will do well in Tunisia. History tells us that they always do well in away games for continental matches. So, good luck in your Sunday game.

That put aside, i think there is a black-hole swallowing allot of gate collection fee. I do believe that more than 2.6 Million were collected at the gate.

More than 20,000 people attended that match. Ignoring Ksh1000 for VIP and Assume that all pay the standard Ksh200 for terrace section. Then by simple class one mathematics of 20,000X200=4,000,000 tells me that we should have collected Seattle 4000,000 at worst.

However, given that the VIP section was full and this goes for 1000 (5 times more than normal terrace section), we should have collected at least 5,000,000 when this is factored in. Actually, the attendance was more than 20 K and in principle, we should have really collected a min um of 6,000,000. How comes the money lost through black market ticket sale is this huge?I think there is something which even official know about. It is really painful when concerned fans are looking for ways to raise money to help Gor mahia yet the elected officials are not showing some seriousness to stop loop holes in gate collection loss and hooliganism. I don’t believe the figure reported.

O’Trailer tell the team to aim at scoring 5 goals to nothing. That way they will score at least 2. It is unwise to aim at a 2-0 scoreline. If they aim at scoring 2, they may end up scoring only 1 or none.

cafootball@10……the reason fans pay so highly for Rugby Safari 7s is because it is an annual event.
Our soccer league, which is played almost every weekend and involves traveling to other towns considers that fans don’t have the resources to fork out so much money week in week out….
my honest opinion about Tunis….it will be a mountain too high…!!modern day football,if you concede more than 1 goal at home and especially to a soccer powerhouse, what are the chances of overturning that deficit away?
As much as i always wish my team well,am not sure if they can hack this one….

I think that amount is too little if u compare with the attendance during the match!its very sad nd disheartening for some of us to foke out 1k only for the money to end up in one’s pocket! Nobody from the EC has come out to say something regarding this scandal. By chair pliz say something. or is there something u know that we don’t know. We shall leave no stone unturned. For those who like calling other s human waste I think u now know who the human waste is.its u nd those who are printing fake tickets! By the way what happens if an Ec member is either involved in corruption or is adversely mentioned to be engaging in one? To these guys have security tenure? For those who have the interest of the club at heart pliz let us join hands in fighting this scandal of printing fake tickets the way we also condemn hooliganism!I have been very vocal on this issue becoz from what I heard Wells Fargo guys say we should blame our officials for fake tickets and not them.in fact they get nothing from the Anglo leasing or golden Berg the way u wanna put it.am 100% sure some of our officials knows bout it.the ball in your basket guys.

Brothers why are some of us so quick to throw abuses at others?

Surely sure, we can not have almost half of the delegation being the so called officials going to Tunis when players are kept at the exact official number of 18 without raising an eyebrow?

Now that the same people print fake tickets, joy rides and do everything unethical, very few of us will stop asking questions, regardless of the intensity and quantity of abuses.

Yea @Oduori12, i will speak for myself about your criticism of AR and the EC this way..You are on record for campaigning for AR referring to him even as ‘the devil you know’ connoting that you would rather have him than anyone else! This includes the new official punching bags in the name of Ngala & Kiilo.

To me it serves us better to give him space to implement his entire manifesto instead of waging a war against him just days after vehemently selling him to the electorate!Actually in all fairness that is the law of natural justice. Mark you this is his seventh year and these are the same same malpractices witnessed in his prior tenure followed by his (Chair’s) loud silence. Kindly let AR and his team deliver without name calling, Brother.

If i may ask, do we honestly believe the Chair has no power or powers at all to finally eradicate these fake ticket printers be they officials (elected), enemies or former officials? Is GM so helpless to act on this vice especially now that the sponsorship is gone, but still do you throw away your granary just because a neighbour offers you a banquet?

Still i don’t believe the Esperance game in Tunis is a formality.
