Gor Mahia 2 KCB 1

Gor Mahia left it late but managed to beat league leaders KCB 2-1 in a Tusker Premier League match played at City Stadium on Sunday.

The first half was dull. Gor Mahia did not show any of the urgency or any of the cohesion they showed against Ulinzi on Wedensday. But then again the Wednesday team was largely different. Its fair to say that KCB were the better team in the first half. Jerry “Jagoal” Onyango was called upon to make a number of saves. Gor Mahia had an early chance when Rama Salim found himself one on one with the KCB custodian but slipped. David Owino came close with a freekick on 35 minutes but his effort was saved.

Coach Logarusic then replaced Kevin Omondi with Innocent Mutiso shortly before half time. 10 minutes into the 2nd half , defender Donald Mosoto headed home a Moses Odhiambo freekick to give Gor Mahia the lead. But before Kogalo fans had finished celebrating, KCB were awarded a spot kick after Musa Mohamed handled the ball. Clifford Alwanga made no mistake to level the scores.

The match was finely balanced in the second half. Gor Mahia’s play improved in the 2nd half but KCB were equal to Gor Mahia.  KCB striker Brian Osumba missed a glorious chance in the 65th minute when with Jerry Onyango well beaten, he sent his shot over the bar. Danny Sserunkuma came close in the 80th minute when he spun past a defender but sent his shot wide.

In the 87th minute, a goalbound Sserunkuma was fouled in the box. The reliable Rama Salim stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to give Gor Mahia a win.

Line-Up : Jerry Onyango, Solomon Nasio (Musa Mohamed), Chris Wekesa, David Owino, Donald Mosoti, Teddy Akumu, Joseph Njuguna, Rama Salim, Kelvin Omondi (Innocent Mutiso), Moses Odhiambo, Danny Sserunkuma

Subs; Ivo Mapunda, Musa Mohamed, Israel Emuge, Ivan Anguyo, Antony “Gaucho” Gathu, Victor Ali Abondo, Innocent Mutiso

  • I AM HAPPY TO BACK

    Fellow bloggers,

    Happy new year!

I am extremely delighted to be back after a brief break after my cellphone developed some mechanical problems which I had to fix. But that does not mean I was not following K’Ogalo both the Confederation of African Football ( CAF) campaign and of course at the league level. I also felt sad that we could not make to thee next level of the CAF cup after we were eliminated by ENNPI of Eqypt.

I have heard in football parlance that ‘ mpira hudunda’. To echo coach Logarusic, we bowed with our heads held high what with a stellar performance from our boys at the Nyayo national stadium when the held the Egyptian side to a barren draw.

On the league level, our ultimate goal remain unchanged- to lift this year’s TPL title. I am happy for the impressive results we have registered so far including securing a semi final birthe at the lucrative Top 8 tournament after beating the sturbborn soldiers on penalty shootout. I am optimistic that we will remain focused throughout the season.

On this note, let me once more salute the green army for your unwavering support. i cannot also forget our Executive Committee led by AR for your able leadership. Under their leadership, this club has scaled new heights. We now have a bus, up and running official club website, a record sponsonsorship deal in any local
club history and improved revenue just to mention but a few.

Despite these success, our club also had it’s fair share of challenges. Our club continue to dodged by ugly scenes of fans violence that have impacted negatively on the club image. And the club have paid for these actions. I plead with fans to be responsible individually and collectively for the common good of the club they so cherish. This militant style character evident in Gor Mahia has boiled down to the politics of this nation.
    I cannot say more.

Finally, i am looking forward to your engaging comments from
comrades like Jb, arrumtidi, A. Kosero, Mwakio, okoth jabilo among others. You guys are awesome!

Even with the win, we must accept that KCB was really strong. We did not have quite a good game maybe because of fatigue for playing 3 matches in 8 days. Hope we have a better match next time.

Congratulations team for winning against all odds. @Mcosweto I am reluctant to attribute it to fatigue. How about those days when Gor Mahia played MOTCOM in Kakamega on Saturday and then met the boggey team Nzoia FC at Kanduyi stadium the following day? Or Kisumu Posta in Kisumu on Saturday and then travelled to Nakuru to meet Scarlet the following day? I am not a fan of English football but I think there is one of those big teams (Mancity? Tottenham? Arsenal?) that is currently having to play 4 matches in 8 days and they have taken it in their stride. Our team should accept that there is a backlog of matches and therefore they must be prepared to step forward and grind results. According to a reliable sports weekly newspaper (Game Yetu) some misguided Gor Mahia fan has been attempting to extort money from our coach through blackmail. I suspect it could have impacted on the team’s performance. I am sure many K’Ogalo fans are behind the coach and will not entain such criminal acts. I urge the coach not to give in to any form of blackmail no matter what but instead let the law deal with the fellow. In my view whatever the fellow is holding on is a non-issue that should not make the coach miss even a single iota of sleep. Coach I believe you have 100% support of the fans. Stand your ground. Don’t be intimidated.

  • Championships are won by grit and determination. Gor are on the right trAck And they must not lose focus ANd continue to grind out results to become champions this year. We have the players to win the championship and we only need to do some tweaks with the midfield and the striking departments. Abbey Kunkurumni needs to be given the chance alongside other fringe players like Mutiso and Gathu. The bench is awesome with the likes of Musa, Mapunda, Yusuf Juma, Anguyo, Kevo, M. Odhiambo. With God we will win it this time round.

  • We didn’t play well in the first half but when Kiongea and Lavatsa come back we will be rejunivated team. The striking dept is not still being fed well. They spend so much time, energy and effort lokking for balls

    @ 2 Pareyio 2013 – karibu sana (welcome back).

@3 Mcosweto – there is no issue of fatigue since most of the players who were under-performing yesterday like Wekesa were rested during mid-week match against Ulinzi.

@ 4 Barefoot Bandit – If it is true that some Gor Mahia fan has been attempting to extort money from our coach through blackmail, this should stop immediately; nobody should take advantage of another in whatever means!

@6 Dan – I agree; the mid-field is still having a problem, therefore strikers are not getting balls.

I was satisfied with Mutiso and Anguyo’s performance in yesterday’s match against KCB. If we can supply strikers with balls then we will go places. Let us give the coach and the technical bench full support so that the coach will agree to stay for one more season even after this year.

    Parayieo, karibu sana.
walter I echo your remarks. it might be out dated football but the reality has seen us win accolades with balls coming from flanks be it on dead balls, any way so far not bad.
I want to raise this concern:-
we are entitled to celebrate and cheer our game and team with no spiritual prejudice however there are some rghings we need to identify with the right places. For instance, we had people celebrating their birth days in their own ways which were not limited to pouring alcohol aimlessly on the celebrates. I am not saying that we should not celebrate but when doing it you need to mind about other people who camefor something else.
Can you imagine that Alcohol and water being splashed all over to a point you are insulted just because you have raised concern??? I felt for this old man who was nearly beaten by one of the guys who happened to be the boyfriend to the girl who was to be washed with alcohol.
Gentlemen, it is only in Gor mahia where we as fans fight each other.Imagine, going home to my children with a swollen eye, why-because I was beaten by a Gor supporter who was equally cheering the same team!
My take is to cheer our beloved team in faith and true spirit that etails respect and brotherhood.

Lastly, does the extra whistles that defocusses even the players on pitch affect you???????if yes, what should be done?????

@Barefoot, I agree fully, fatigue should not be an excuse. Some training sessions are more rigorous than the matches.

I especially recall the Kisumu Posta days with nostalgia. The likes of James Onyango Mbidha “Spinks”, Kenedy Odhiambo “toto”, George Ondula, Okombo, Luke Owuor, James Waga, Emmanuel Akama, Dominic Otieno, Ibrahim Ngoi, Ali Kurwa, Stephen Oganga, Richard Otieno, Ali Bweta, Onyango Mabati etc.

All the same, a win is a win and congrats. Kogallo can only improve.

For God and my beloved club – Kogallo

good result but poor performance against a dogged kcb team who seemed better organised and generally more well drilled.
So far in the league we have struggled to impose ourselves and found it hard to contain our opponents even if the results have been going our way.If we continue with that kind of performance,am afraid we just might get caught out by other well drilled opponents. We need to improve as a matter of urgency!!

Congratulations to the team for the hard fought win.
The football played by both teams in the 2nd half was probably the best so far in the league this season.
I would like to dwell on a different issue altogether. The slow re-emergence of on the stadium hooliganism and fans indiscipline-A matter discussed by messrs @barefoot bandit and @dan in earlier posts.
Most of you will agree with me that the penalty awarded to kcb was very questionable, but the reaction from a section of our russian fans after cliff alwanga converted that penalty was very unfortunate.
With the risk of soundin, judgemental, and being vulnerable to attacks by fellow bloggers, I will squarely lay the blame on a SECTION of our russian fans.
Just before our first goal, someone on the centre stand threw a bottle to the field of play, when some decisions by the ref, didn’t go our way. Those who were seatld nearby know how the whole story ended-the guy was ejected led away of course while being ‘BLESSED’.
At the centre stand you throw any object to the field of play, you are dead meat.In a SECTION of the russian stands, you throw an object into the field of play, you get cheered and encouraged.
The club should come out boldly and look for ways to address fans indiscipline, especially by a SECTION of our russian fans. (The centre stand mostly self regulates).
To start with, the entry fee should be raised for all our home matches.Terraces should be ksh500 and centre stand anything between ksh 700 and 1, 000.
I know that this will punish even the well behaved fans, who happen to be the majority anyway, but I think this will make self policing more effective.
Besides not so many people will pay, ksh 500 to go and throw stones in stadiums.
Secondly, there was a time selling sodas and water was totally banned, the only thing which was allowed was groundnuts, but nowadays it seems that either the ban was lifted or somebody is making a kill by allowing soda/water vendors inside the stadium.
These are just short-mid term measures, I believe there are more elaborate measures that can be employed to curb this menace.Because at the rate we are moving, it wont be long before the usual fkf/tpl/ssmb/supersport bans are meted on us, perhaps even lives might be lost (God forbid)before we do anyring

Arrumtiddi u are wrong on this one the same justice u are talking about is also practiced on the russia side if u can remember our match against i think ENPPI aperson was worked on for doing the same stupid thing u are talking about,so the issue of raising the gate charges will not change anything,we must come up with a working fomular to contain this kind of hulliganism, all these poeple we know then, all of us we know the trouble makers, its high time we involve everyone and stop the blame game after something has happened,we can do this by identify these poeple then we bar them from accesing the stadiums, but not raising the gate charges,as u av just said a person threw a bottle onto the field from the main stand, did this person enter free or he paid the requred 500/=? so that ur xample can show u that all of us need to police one another for this ugly things not to be seen in our matches coz poeple always associate us with bad thing as u can remember Ulinzi players almost beating the ref if not for the so called mainstand who stood up for the occation,Ochomo provoked the fans akisema atatufira nyuma, and when i looked the next day on all the daillies not even one media house talked about that and that is what brought the ugly sceen u saw that day me i was there,so talking of raising the charges will never help but we must start identifying this thugs for the betterment of our soccer, here i rest my case

That KCB player Alwanga was the one provoking fans by going to celebrate his dubious penalty in front of fans at Russia. What did he expect ? Some players just want to provoke fans.
I disagree with raising ticket prices. That will just drive fans away. Nowadays fans are doing a good job of policing themselves but some players just want to provoke.

  • Guys, unfortunately there is no justification for hooliganism. In europe even racist chants are punished or even throwing a coin on the pitch. For our team to prosper we have to abondon the archaic behaviours of hurling missiles in the field and even those of describing our Divas and other female fans in deragatory manners. Unless u accompanied them. We still need gor matches to be places of family outings. For those of us with differences with other ethnic kenyans please spare us your frastrutations since gor as we know it goes beyond ethicity and country

@erico jarae, am happy that you are suggesting ways and means of curbing hooliganism. But I think that your suggestions of going the europe’s way, of identifying the trouble makers and banning them is not possible here for the simple reason that we dont have such a mechanism in place.
You see in most of the clubs in europe, the clubs keep a data base of all its fans complete with personal information, pictures of the fans etc. This alongside the numerous surveillance cameras positioned in various parts of the stadium makes it easier to identify, trackdown and arrest trouble makers.
A club like gor mahia the most I think it has I think is a club register of like5, 000 registered fans, with only their id numbers, which I believe nobody even bothered to verify. No picture, even for the 5, 00, no bio data, no anything.
Which of our stadium has surveillance cameras?, and what is the state of our criminal justice system?,can our depleted law enforcement agency give priority to arresting football hooligans, over runaway insecurity in the country?
On the issue, of gor mahia being blameless on the thugs disrupting peoples’ lives in jogoo rd and city centre, I will take the unpopular stand and still blame gor mahia, though partly. It is the same people who after throwing stone in the stadium, proceed to cause trouble on the roadss in the name of gor mahia, thus giving the usual pilgrimage to rusinga a bad name.
Deal with the stone throwers in the stadium and you wont see the thugs who harass people in town. The club needs to come out clearly and warn anybody breaking the law in town, jogoo rd or anywhere in the name of celebrating a gor mahia win, that they are on thir own.The genuine fans should also play their part by not obstructing the police /council askaris from arresting these thugs or shielding and protecting the thugs/hooligans.This way not even the hired goons paid by gor’s detractors will find a playing field for furthering their agenda.
@Joe riaga, I dont know whether cliff alwanga’s intention was to provock fans, but it is common practice in africa and south america for goal scorers to run to the nearest corner flag after scoring where they usually celebrate either alone or joined by teammates, so I dont see anything wrong in alwanga’s goal celebration unless he made a derogatory gesture, though I might be wrong.

  • @Joshu, it’s good we are winning since that is the hallmark of a great team. Look at ManU, they still win even when playing poorly but at Gor we always shoot ourselves in the foot. And that bullet this year will come from our hooligan fans. As much as we say some non-gor fans buy t-shirts and cause mayhem the truth is that 99.9% of the chaos is caused by real-but-not-genuine fans. That is my observation. As much as KCB provoked our fans by celebrating near the flag post that did not warrant throwing missiles even when the players had retreated. Otherwise the other missiles were meant for who yet only our players were in that vicinity. Apart from the policve action my solution is to identify these trouble makers and let the senior fans and EC members tell them the risks and demerits of these actions. And by the way why do become hostile to the police when ourselves we fear these goons?

@Post#2 and #3 comrades @ Pareyio2013 and Albert Kosero it’s nice to notice your presence on this site. I have also been so quiet while monitoring our clubs development remotely. Although we Re yet to hit our top gear performance wise, but am happy we are collecting maximum points. At the end of first leg I would prefer sitting pretty well on top of the table with at least 30 points which is equal to ten wins.

This emerging hooliganism has nothing to do with football but rather some foolish ill feelings from a sections of our supporters due to the just concluded elections of which some of us are yet to come to terms with the reality. That is the TRUTH.
The earlier we can dispense with and segregate political from GOR MAHIA as a football sporting industry then the better we shall excel as a club. Ever since this elections saga started , we have allowed the politics of the country to infiltrate into the club through K’Ogalo supporters and as such we shall be depicted as such by the rest of kenyans.

We should change tact and agree to differentiate football as a forum of socializing and entertaining ourselves with people from all walks of life and accept that the diversity of our players transcends cultural, ethnic, tribal or religious boundaries . That is my take.

@erico jarae, identifying and flushing them out doesn’t require so much, infact that anyone can do you and I included.
If for example benson disi, throws a stone in the stadium, gets caught and is banned, how do we ensure that he doesn’t attend any future games, until he serves his ban??
In kenya its’ so difficult, to ensure this is implemented.
In europe with the fans bio data available it is is easier to monitor such things as fans bans.
So when I talk about a lack of mechanisms,I mean this and other things such as IT infrastructure which also includes surveillance cameras etc.

  • GOR MAHIA FANS IS AN OVERZEALOUS LOT

I must be very honest with you guys. Every time we express our concern especially the security of our loyal fans and the general public, a section of our fans use this page and other fora to justify their henious acts.

The violent actions by a section of our fans, we have always stated is barbaric, satanic and has no place in current football. And I have no apology on this.

A section of our fans do not like order. They want to watch a game for free, they enter and exit through undesignated gates, occupy seats they have not paid for, tag with them banned items inside the stadium, smoke bhang in public, spew out unpalatable words just to everyone including match offficials, tech bench and club officials and when they go out of the stadium, they vandalize kiosks, steal from unsuspecting motorists.

Wait a minute. I am not done. They print very deragotory words on their club jerseys and helmets.

This is the lot who call themselves the green army. Shame on you!

I will not even explain how this lot have destroyed the candidacy of RAO. As we begin our league campaign, I urge FKF and club officials to act tough on such elements who are he’ll bent to cause chaos and bloodshed.

I must say that i am a proud K’Ogalo fan and would like to be associated with football loving fans. Watching a game in Kenya should be fun and family outing and not a death trap. Let me single out one such fan, Jaro Soja. He is in respect a football fan. I salute him.
