Resilient Gor Mahia floor Ulinzi

Gor Mahia beat Ulinzi 2-0 in an entertaining Kenya Premier League match. Yet again the scorers were Kagere and Olunga.
But it was not just the fact that they both scored. Whats even more impressive is how they set each other up for goals. And how they are beginning to develop an understanding and a cohesion that will soon give KPL defenders sleepless nights. This combination is starting to be reminiscent of the Sserunkuma-Rama partnership of 2012.
The match was well balanced in the first half with both teams giving a good account of themselves. Ulinzi as usual were highly physical. But they found that Collins Okoth “Gattuso” and Khalid Aucho in the Gor Mahia engine room were equally adept at dishing out physicality and Olunga is not easily muscled off the ball.
The first goal was scored by Kagere on the stroke of half-time. Khalid Aucho headed the ball towards the Ulinzi goal. Olunga who is a constant bane to many defences, worried James Saruni and in the Ulinzi goal. Saruni thus failed to deal decisively with the ball and it fell to Kagere who scored. Gor Mahia went to half time leading 1-0.
It is the second week in a row in which Olunga has worried a defender into a costly mistake.
In the second half, coach Nuttall replaced Ali Abondo with Innocent Wafula. He had an immediate impact, setting up Olunga to score the second goal.
Late Substitute George Odhiambo Blackberry almost scored in the waning moments but he could not finish after a sublime piece of skill.
It was an impressive win for Gor Mahia against a team that is normally a difficult proposition for Gor Mahia to deal with. This is a team that prior to today was third in the league table and had not lost a match. And today was no different because Ulinzi came very motivated and ready to play. But Gor Mahia are proving resilient.
Thanks to the resiliency, tactical discipline and brilliant display by the players, Gor Mahia continue to march on with what is their most impressive start since the Kenya Premier league was inaugurated.
Gor Mahia: Starting XI: Bonface Oluoch – Musa Mohamed – Karim Nizigiyimana – Abouba Sibomana – Collins Okoth – Ali Abondo (29. Innocent Wafula) – 18. Harun Shakava – Meddie Kagere – Godfrey Walusimbi( Ronald Otien) – Michael Olunga (25. George Odhiambo) – Khalid Aucho.
Unused Subs: Jerim Onyango – Benard Odhiambo – Eric Ochieng. – Ernest Wendo.
Cheers wherever u r Gor fans to Kogalo unbeatable!!!
I return all the glory and honor to the Almighty God for the sweet victory. Congrats team…kudos to players, technical bench members led by Nuttal, EC and fans for the excellent performance.
Where is gormahia bread in kisumu sold yawa.?
I have been asking the same question. Bring the bread to Nakuru
In my 30 years of following this great club. ….I have never seen a squad so grilled in all departments like the current squad. ..This is the best kogallo of all times. 37 points to go !
Good victory. Nice to see the boys were prepared for the ‘provocation act’ Ulinzi tried to deploy towards the end of the game. Matano had no choice but to deploy the ‘Bad ref routine’. Will the next coach do the same try the same? Yes. Now that Gor is beating you minus penalties, the stories have become so hollow and laughable. Coaches, we know that beating Gor earns you enough ‘Bonga points’ not to be sacked but my advice, try beating Gor with good football without relying on this ‘provoke crowd’ and ‘bad ref thing’. It has become to obvious. Ulinzi would have scored had they simply concentrated and taken advantage of the Gor slumber during the second have but the players got confused between playing football and this tired scheme. They lost concentration and were simply pushing the ball foward for ‘something to happen’.
@dinga…at no point did Gor go into a slumber today.they were alert for the entire 90mins save for walusimbi who was a weak link…in my opinion!!
Enyewe Walusimbi was the weak link. I wish he could stop overdoing the things he does. Aucho was outstanding. He is becoming better with time and the same can be said of Gatusso. Despite small errors, Shakava is doing some good work at the back.
What is killing us is the cross balls. The deliveries are not good on either side. Overall the game was something to behold.
Kogalo unstopable okbichalonu
Zico, twasija…..Awendo is turning grrrreeeen. Taya, Taya,Taya,……..Mayienga! Sirkal biro.
Na usianze upuuzi ya Ref, mara hi mara- Ref hii. Tupambane kiume uwanjani
Kuodos to the team, this was a very entertaining game to wacth live. The team from the keeper to the attack was wonderful , but let me single out Gatusso Okoth for the level of improvement he has shown. May I join ndugu Mwakio in glorifying the lord for the victory.
Mighty K’galo is still UNB10.
Am worried about nothing but the WAGE BILL.
I really hope the EC will pay all the winning allowances and salaries due to the players.
Surely such a good performance must be encouraged and be built on. Its sheer incompetence for the EC to be unable to put in structures to pay players on time & in full especially when its doing so well.
Let Gor Mahia fans rally and create a salary fund specifically to guarantee payment of the players and TBs salaries on time. This is an idea that must be forced down the throat of EC/Jakom.
Lets leave allowances to the EC.
As usual EC has twisted the Sacco idea to limit it only to the players.
Kindly expound wat u mean by sacco been limted only to players
@jai, I think I read too much into Ngala’s statement. On carefully re-reading it I realize that he may well be addressing players’ welfare and Sacco launches as separate issues. This means that the Sacco idea is still very much alive, am so relieved but when oh when will EC make it a reality i.e WALK THE TALK.
Gor Mahia could be the first club in the Kenya Premier League(KPL)
to launch officially its co-operative Sacco.
See quotes below:
1) “Club Chairman Ambrose Rachier disclosed that they are in the final
stages of launching the project that will be open to everybody
including foreigners. He said already they have registered the sacco
and established an office at Nairobi’s Development House adding that
what is remaining is to put some few logistics in place like buying a
computer and office furniture among other amenities.
Rachier made the announcement on Tuesday evening during an
impromptu fund raising towards Gor Mahia’s continental trip to and
from Congo where they will face off with Ac Leopards in the second
round, return leg, of the Africa Champions League.
That was on 02 April 2015.

“This is the way to go and the selling is going up as we speak. We are getting Sh130, 000 per day so there is a possibility the figures will rise up to Sh200, 000 a day. The company is set to spread its supply to Nairobi but at the moment it’s only available in Western Kenya and it’s doing very well.
“We are still in talks with other potential sponsors but I can say we are heading in the right direction. We are set to launch the player’s welfare and Sacco,” Ngala munched over the numbers as Gor is yet to secure a sponsor since their deal with Tuzo Milk lapsed in 2013.
Gor Mahia Sacco Hooyee.
@ BB well said, true Riaga in 2011 gate collections were regularly above the 2M mark.
You complain to much chief. Our responsibility is to pay to watch the game and the EC to look after the welfare of the team. We all know how things are and we can only pray that things works for the club.
why is Matano confirming the obvious………that he is never defeated without complaining about referee.
where is the bread anywhere….Nairobi?
whaaat a game, the current gor mahia squad can go unbeaten and take all trophies in kenya.
My good friend Jack Omollo, that is not the issue for now. The most immediate worry for all of us is how many out of this squad will we retain after the transfer window in June….. and will we be in a position to strengthen the squad with quality players like Mwendwa of Mathare United?
My point is, while the technical bench and the playing unit is doing its best, the EC should also work overtime to transform the financial muscle and stability of Gor Mahia. Losing such a quality squad will mean going back to square one at the beginning of next season and that will be heart breaking. Some ladies and gentlemen in the EC should be bold enough and kiss goodbye to the corruption mentality that is Gor Mahia’s worst enemy. Why, for instance should guys insist on home matches at City Stadium and charge 600 Vs 300 in spite of the relative insecurity while we could earn much more by charging less from a much larger crowd that is attracted by the much better security at Nyayo Stadium (as well illustrated by Oduor12)? It is high time that we changed our mindset and took bold steps that can take us towards financial emancipation of those affiliated to Gor Mahia.
If someone wants to eat, I would not mind if he eats after creating plenty for everyone else. The people we have currently are the lazy lot who are not ready to work hard and create plenty yet the are more than willing to eat the little that is there.
I agree with barefoot bandit.
Steep gate charges are dissuading many from attending. Has anyone noticed that attendance is much lower than it was say in 2011.
Also concur on player welfare. Currently GM is hitting on all cylinders. The EC will derail this if they are unable to pay salaries on time
Totally agree with @Barefoot Bandits. The other day Rachier was asked if he was aware Walusimbi intend to terminate his contract due to non payment and his answer was shocking I don’t have to mention. With such kind of leadership we just hold our hands together and pray that God help us through this mess
@Barefoot you have hit it with a big hammer. We have had proposals which the office need to take advantage of but these people called the executive committee under the chairman Ambrose Rachier are just sleeping on the job.
Instead of building a bigger cake, they are just destroying and stealing the little meant for the players through fake printed tickets.
It is on record that we have proposed sale of rebranded jerseys with both home and away as represented by green and white/blue. This is no brainier with branded jerseys. For example just take 20,000 fans each buying three sets at a discounted retail price of Kshs.1,500 per set. If each fan is to buy three sets, this will translate to 60,000 units being sold in a very formalized system. This will raise Kshs.90 million, which is more than what Britaam will pay Mathare for the next three years.
Suppose each of the three sets are sold at wholesale price of Kshs.1,200 per set, we can raise Kshs.72 million. These officials are just jocking with the potentials and goodwill in the club. Gor Mahia must adopt a business model that will be sustainable in the long term but not being curtailed by visionless executives. There will be also sale of other branded merchandises. In a year with a proper organization, the club can raise more than Kshs.100 million from sales of merchandises alone.
This is a true wake up call to Gor Mahia fans to decide on the best model of the club. We have talked about SACCO but non of this guys are serious about such proposals.
