Gor Mahia, AFC appeal to FKF over foreigners rule

The two clubs in a joint letter obtained by Goal are requesting the federation to have quota of foreign players increased to at least eight from current three
Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards’ have written to Football Kenya Federation requesting for a change in the rules regarding signing of foreign players.
The two clubs in a joint letter want the quota of foreign players to be increased to at least eight from the current three. Both sides will represent the country in continental football next season and want to be given a chance to bolster their squads but feel that the current rule inhibits their ability to sign top players.
Gor Mahia, the Kenyan Premier League champions will represent the country in the African Champions League tournament with Leopards’ taking part in the Confederations Cup.
“The current rule restricting us from signing only three foreign players needs to be changed because at continental level, we are going to compete with teams that probably field all foreign players putting us at a disadvantage,” stated the letter signed by both secretaries and obtained by Goal.
“The rule should either be abolished or the quota increased to eight players.”
Dropped Players
Gor Mahia are also said to have dropped four players according to a report on futaa.com. The four are experienced midfielder Moses Odhiambo, defenders Christopher Wekesa, Ronald Okoth and David Otieno.
Moses Odhiambo aka “Dube” was the Vice captain last year and has been a fan favourite for 4 years with his timely assists, visionary playmaking and goal-scoring ability. But he seems to have fallen out of favour ever since coach Williamson took over from Logarusic. He was still playing well earlier this year and it seems like he was one of the players the club should have held on to because his experience can come in handy.
Mapunda move blocked
Gor Mahia are determined to hold onto goakleeper Ivo mapunda despite overtures from Tanzanian giantrs Simba. “Ivo is a great player. It is largely due to him that Jerim (Onyango) has become a better keeper. “He gave Jerim a lot of competition and that is good for a team. We know of his quality and we need him because we are going to compete in five fronts.”
But Mapunda’s contract with Gor Mahia ends in December. Mapunda had made a “Please sign me please” to any teams watching the CECAFA cup. Simba, now coached by former Gor Mahia coach Zdravko Logarusic have expressed the most interest.
It’s said that TP Mazembe’s 30-sman squad only 12 are Congolese. The rest are from all over Africa. Gor won the league having a bigger foreign contigent than any other team. The Chelseaa, Arsenals, Bayerns have a large foreign content than any other clubs and hence their performance. The flip side is that this diminishes chances for the local boys.
On another note Gor was second best team in the SOYA awards. Congrats boys.
On the sad note we have had to release some players e.g. Dube, Wekesa, Otieno and Okoth. That is the reality of life
For the dropped players pls move on. I wish u the best especially for wekesa who always played his heart out. Its a pity that a player of ur calibre had to go but knowing the kind of stuff u showed it can only be injury. Gor recruitment shud on the other hand be serious. And to AKumu n the stars game i hope this was not a gimmick. The rest of gor players i thnk most of u did well, special mention again to Owino jasirati. Ur one player who deserves more. Sserenkuma ur good.emuge ur a rock. Musa mohammed ur also dedicated.Mosoti ur one player who with the correct attitude can play in europe.Oboya ur dedicated but ur weight slows u down.jerry et mwapunda u guys are pros, na sio wa K street. EC have done well n wish u more success. Gor fans ur the bomb.happy 50…
Left back, two central defenders, two wingers and two proven strikers….this is my view of kogallo’s areas of recruitment
Get abass kiwalabye on free transfer coz afc are going to release him. He is a good leftback, trong and has good crosses.
Mcoseto, let technical bench do their job. Bloggers you are confusing everyone.
Wanapiga kelele and they havent signed anybody of note yet. Please focus on recruiting for next year or else this team will finish 3rd in the league.
Even the greatest of us all cannot halt the passage of time.Dube thanx for you selfless service to Kogalo ever since your return from Rwanda’s APR.I will miss those pinpoint passes and shorts.Great Moses, you have undoubtedly kept all the power of your right foot and vision, but age has cost you both speed and mobility.Chris, may the very factors that made you so great as a Gor player-zeal,charisma and vision -continue to drive whenever you will go.Dave, you are second time unlucky.Marriage doesn’t agree with us all.Yours and Gor was never meant to be.I watched you play for Sony.I watched play for Stima. You were rock solid in defence. Why it couldn’t work for you at Kogalo is beyond belief.Ronny,I never watched you play, unfortunately. However, those who have watched you in training have only good words for you.Am told you are still young.Don’t be dispirited.Don’t be disillusioned.Turn this lemon into a lemonade.I wish I could have more to say about you.You are all true Gor legends.
The official transfer season is in January so TB has enough time convince their targetted players 2 join GM. There’s need 2 beef up the 2 signings made so far with more “CAF material” players.
On the elections all the pointers show that the exercise will b a sham. Proper structures really seem 2 b a challenge 4 AR. E.g when will the register b closed n vetted,r independent persons conducting the polls/ is it the EC.
Like it or not the lack of proper structures & reliance on personalities………
contd… is making GM seriously lag behind its potential magnifying whatever gud AR has done.
I think AR can do better chairing a lean EC of 4 officials rather the the bloated community of 11(again his own miscreation) but if thats not possible then perhaps its better voting out the current EC enmass.
Lets reflect deeply abt our choices not 4geting the embarassing failure of Kisumu being unable 2 host CECAFA matches while Machakos did. ITS ALL ABT LEADERSHIP,PLANNING & STRUCTURES.
Oduor12, where people you have been campaigning for since last year? Has any of them
shown interest for any position?
Regarding the bloated office, I think members during either the AGM or any SGM can make amendment to the article of association to trim the executive to 5 or 7 members. Current office are not interested in making these changes due to unknown selfish and narrow reasons.
@ Mwakio sadly I don’t think any of my suggestions, including yourself have offered themselves 4 office.
The EC is stringing everyone towards a sham exercise.
I still ask is or when will the voters register be closed, Who is in charge of the elections if not the same EC. ELections r on 15th but frm WHAT TIME & WHERE
Even Admin is releasing minimal info on this crucial exercise.
Y THE SECRECY!
My advice is that TB especially B.W better get their players coz fans don’t want excuses.
People, could someone tell me the players whose signatures we are chasing?I know we have signed Onyango and Kariuki.Comrades, please keep me posted.
@mwakio, my was a wish just like any other.. Thank you
THAT ISSUE OF SIGNING MANY FOREIGN PLAYERS IS NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF KENYAN FOOTBALL. WE RISK KPL BECOMING LIKE ENGLISH PREMIER BECAUSE ALMOST ALWAYS THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE EPL ARE FOREIGN. LOCAL PLAYERS AND NATIONAL TEAM WILL NOT SHINE!
Loga signs Mapunda and Mosoti
The question is HOW DO U BLOCK A PLAYER FROM LEAVING THE CLUB WHEN U ALLOWED HIS CONTRACT 2 EXPIRE.
THAT DEFIES LOGIC. BLOATED GM EXECUTIVE COMMUNITY IS AN ADMINISTRATIVE FAILURE WHICH IS SET 2 CONTINUE WITH SHAMBOLIC ELECTIONS SET 4 SUNDAY @ AN UNKNOWN TIME & VENUE.
CASE IN POINT IF THE POLLS R BY SECRET BALLOT R THE BALLOT PAPERS READY AMA WE’LL WRITE OUR CHOICES IN PIECES OF PAPER TORN FROM EXERCISE BOOKS.
THESE POLLS HAVE A RETROGRESSIVE EFFECT ALL BCOZ WE PREFER PERSONALITIES NT STRUCTURES
