Gor Mahia edge City Stars

Much to the relief for fans everywhere, Gor Mahia recovered to beat Nairobi City Stars 2-1. It look late goals from returnees Haron Shakava and a late one from Collins Okoth to deliver all three points. It was atimely win for a team that has struggled in the past two games. For coaxch Ze Maria it was a relief as some fans had started to doubt him especially his ability to create a partnership between Tuyisenge and Kagere.
Additional reporting from goal.com
K’Ogalo came into the match after two successive draws knowing they had to start winning if they have real intentions of successfully defending their title, with the Kawangware-based side also aware of relegation threats considering their unpleasant position in the log.
The match started on a high note as both sides fought for an early opener, and it could have been Gor Mahia, who had scored in the 5th minute as Erick Ouma found Meddie Kagere in the danger zone, but his flick went inches wide.
Jimmy Bageya narrowly missed the target in the 11th minute, as he danced his way past the defenders. It was a wake up call for the champions, who found it hard against the opponents’ well organized midfield. But the opener came in the 22nd minute thanks to Haron Shakava, who scrambled the goal home after a well taken free-kick by Karim Nizigiyimana.
However, the lead lasted for less than 90 seconds as City Stars hit back courtesy of Ezekiel Odera, who took full advantage of Gor Mahia’s lapses at the back. In the 43rd minute, Olivier Maloba was fed the ball after a nice move in the left wing, but shot straight at Boniface Oluoch despite having many options.
In the second half, City Stars started strongly and Shakava was forced into a game saving tackle to deny Mageya who was sure to beat him, and the former was cautioned. The introduction of Baron Oketch increased the tempo upfront for the champions as they won two consecutive corners in the 50th minute, but bore no fruits.
Five minutes later, Meddie Kagere wasted a glorious opportunity. Nizigiyimana floated in a cross from the right, but the Rwandan headed over the bar. It was pressure after pressure from K’Ogalo, who were keen on getting three points, but resolute City Stars defense ensured it does not happen.
The winner however, came in the stoppages as substitute Enock Agwanda threw his trademark long ball towards the goal, and Collins Okoth managed to win it for the champions. Gor Mahia have now moved second with 34 points, three behind leaders Tusker, who failed to get a win against Sofapaka earlier on.
I think we are still missing Khalid Aucho in our Midflefield. Since we did not buy a replacement, the coach should groom Wendo for that position. Gatudi to play hid no 6 role, Wendo to take no 8 and the creative Kahata to play np 10 and feed the striker. I say striker because we are effective with a single striker than the twin strikers we have been using to no effect. Jausenge and Magere can alternate I’m the two halves. Its abit telling that the two goals today were scored by a defender and a middle fielder !!!!!!! However we congratulate the team for not giving up !!!!! Lets also give the coach all the support ,even as we work on making corners yield goals. Set pieces really ate a gold mine but today we squandered 20 !!!!;!;;;
But suffice is to say that teams have improved and there is no easy team to play in the SportPesa PL.
Hard-fought goals from the most unexpected of scorers. Guys, whoever instilled such a deep-rooted desire to win deserves applause. The boys fought hard and I witnessed the best of Shakava today. Thanks to Ezekiel Odera for “passing to himself then slotting it in”, our boys learnt so much from you. Thanks to the City Stars team, the only team that doesn’t sit back to defend a draw but keeps fighting till the last whistle.
Thanks to Ze Maria, your fielding and substitutions worked in Kogallo’s favour for the first time in your tenure.
Kawuono ok acham kabich, adhi manyo ring ngamia e butcher.
Thanks to my fellow critics of Kogallo’s last failures, the criticizms prompted drastic changes and improvements as witnessed this afternoon.
To koro ring ngamia ang’niyud kanye wuod baba? Kose in Isiolo?
Personally I did not see any fight in City Stars. What is evident is that our attack is blunt. With a sharper striking force we should have scored three goals in regulation time. We attacked relentlessly, but were let down by lack of poise in front of goal. We were the better team today in all departments.
However, there is this matter about corners: really, forcing close to 20 corners and scoring from only one? In the Ushuru game we forced 9 corners and just joked around with them. Tom Ogweno, Ottamax and Jolawi Obondo should tell Eric Ouma about one Gor Mahia Legend in the name of Sammy Onyango Jogoo who used to score directly from corner kicks. Marcelo has the capability of bending those corner kicks directly into the net.
Congratulations team; for once you fought hard. I must say God loves nyathin Maria, because I don’t know what Jo-Gor would have done had we not won today. Now maintain the same squad, but avoid this approach from the wings. It is legible, predictable and has become ineffective. Let us revert back to our passing Tiki-Taka approach. I think Karim Nizigiyimana should be given a break to recover from burn out. As at now Wellington Ochieng could be much better.
Our crosses were too soft. The “crosses” whipped in at pace had the desired results including e.g Shakava pouncing onto a half clearance and same goes for Agwanda’s powerful throw-ins. Stunning goal Odera but for the wrong team and Bageya is a real headache so shrewd. Yawa Tosh what an inspired post that came to pass. Kazi bado iko but for now thanks to the Almighty for that win.
It was sweet victory and the celebration from our fans and players was a clear testimony to the victory.
Innocent Wekesa is a very talented players but should stop being selfish and embrace to play as a team member.
I thank God for their victory.
who is Innocent Wekesa?
hard fought win congrats kogalo
Never watched bt swt victory {hearts high} go Kogallo….. to hd more positive news brewkenges drew hahahaha can’t hide my joy . lov Gor.
Congrats Kogallo fraternity, lets keep focus and work harder, Ahsante Mungu
This team needs support. The never say die mentality witnessed today was commendable. Next game ….another three points…… Teams that “park the bus” only serve to demean KPL and
From my previous suggestion BB agreed to my suggestion about fielding which has come to pass. This what we were advocating for I.e seriousness from the beginning to the end by fielding pacy players to ensure our opponents are on their toes and then fielding Agwanda to assist in his throws and it has been confirmed through his throw that has resulted to the winning goal. Even if we could have drawn you could have realized that fans felt contented given the output from all the players even though results could not have gone our way. Our fielding/substitution today was right and you will realise very few complaints will bet raised by the bloggers though l feel the likes of Wafula should stop holding into the ball for too long and he will be fine. Our midfield today was fair but we still need box to box midfielder to cover Gatusso as Kahata can’t play for 90 min effectively otherwise l’m contented by the performance/results today.
Hard fought and sweet in the end. I bit my nail savagely the whole second half to keep the tension in check. In the previous post guys opined that Gatusso, Shakava should start, Sibomana be played at left back and Marcelo on the wing, that Agwanda be introduced in the last stages to inject raw power. All these happened like clock work. Such a coincidence proves to me there are many good game readers in this site. I will stay up laaaaaate to savour this one and will go to sleep a relieved man. Thanks to the Most High….
Positive criticism is always beneficial for the improvement of all players in the team.kahata should improve in his passes because he is the one to connect the mid and the forwad play, otherwise Ze Maria got his tactics right ,congratulations .
May God bless Jowi, Shakava, Gatuso and all the players for the hard fought victory. Agwanda’s throw was the icing on the cake. Some blogger said he should be woken up when Jausenge and Magere partnership leads to goals for Kogalo. The coach should see how to improve on that area. God bless Kogallo.
#A person, thanks for remembering my words. Am still in my slumber and kindly wake me up when Ja Usenge scores. This partnership can’t just work, Remember Kagere wants to please and so is Tuyisenge, all want to be heroes. In the end they bump on each other aimlessly and hop like Headless chickens. I have said several times and I repeat that Ze Maria is the cause of lack of goals. In my opinion Kagere and Tuyisenge should not be played together in the 4-4-2 formation. In fact Kagere should start in the bench and introduced midway. Remember Kagere has not played competitive football for the last six months. Once again I sympathize with Ja Usenge for being wasted by this guy Ze Maria, his golden boot dream has been shattered by lack of common sense on the part of the Technical bench. Back to my sleep. Kindly wake me up when Ja Usenge scores.
zemaria did agood job but one thing, kahata’s passes need to be worked on bcoz defenders are sometimes exposed due to poor passes, otherwise erokamano obongo nyakalaga.
Mahono, Mahono. I humbly suggest we give our team a STANDING OVATION when they enter the pitch for their next game. “Bad Boy” Gatuso did almost exactly the same thing a couple of years at Citi against Coastal something. None of the finese Tusker games but who can complain about such grit and commitment. For now like a couple of years back i/we sing To Wanagoni Erokamano Gatusso, To Waanaagoni Erokaamano Gaatuuso, as Khawale would say Shakava mtoto wa mama mluhya kamili “asande”, thank-you JOTUGO, Ze Maria & Co. THANK-YOU GORMAHIA.NET TECHNICAL BENCH YAWA TICK,TICK,TICK UNTIL FINAL MINUTE.
Ezekiel odera goal was out of this world….goal of the year for sure.
Secondly , good to see the coach shuffling the team…I also see meddie kagere and jausenge partnership is stifling goals out of kogallo. Perhaps we need to reshuffle that strikeforce more frequent and keep BB and a few others as perennial bench warmer.
Thirdly, the fighting spirit to day was amazing. Can we keep this spirit till the last game of the season? Very possible.
Lastly, congratulations to the goal scorers , we need more diversity in our scoring chart.
Sasa ndio naamuka. Mi nilichoka sana karibu niwache bul hapo nyayo nirudi chukuwa baadaye. Omera wuod Maria fundisa hao boys kona kik. Wanapata 20 halafu hapana scor. Omera jo citi go be mien ndi tho.
bravo.@musyamo i like it when you comment. all bloggers here ar insightful i still hav hope that we will be 2016 champs.walu is not playing, odula is not playing but the team has the fighting spirit.it show that we ar not that pathetic.how long since any team gave us kichapo?gatuso has the fighting spirit even if he is not the best.he should just be displine until the end of the season then walu join the squad then we shall see avery dangerous machine.to God be the glory.
Congrats 2the team 4 the win.I think wafula & Ziggy needs to work on their coordination ,more than often the right back is left exposed whenever no.2 overlaps,I agree that teams have improved & we are bound to mit teams that will make it hard to play thru wings.I hope we do have plan B,C & that nxt SN the coach should identify players to sign and do bizness mapema to avoid similar scenario like odulas, who maybe could be of great importance in our midfield
Tafadhalini patia Kahat a Ugali. Sasa hao players ya lige wako na mbi mingi. Kahat anakana kuwa na ngufu.kogalo tibim.
VERY HAPPY FOR A SWEET VICTORY!
KUDOS TO THE BOYS FOR A GRITTY PERFORMANCE!!
WHAT A WAY TO CELEBRATE BEING HOME AND OUT OF BULLETS WAY IN JUBA !
ALL THE GLORY BE TO GOD!
IN VICTORY AND GLORY, IN DEFEAT AND AGONY, K’OGALO FOR EVER !!
Pole bana. iyo Sudan nashakuwa bunduki, bunduki kila saa. Tafta kuku uambie nayo mwili pole sasa.
Congrats to our team;what a victory. Thanks to Jowii who should be used to bulldoze those parked buses. On another issue we often blame Wafula; but if you observe replays there is no one to pass to.Their coordination with Karim is not that good and Karim becomes too predictable. What can happen if Karim cuts in to the box or gives Wafula to penetrate the box and pass or try a shot;something similar to Olunga-Wafula goal in Gor Vs Al Khartoum. Wafula can shoot but he has been restricted to feeding Karim or crosses.
Yes, he has a powerful shot with good height control, but is let down by going for the near post instead of the far one.
Good game however it was silly and stupid for fans to invade the pitch. God bless GMFC
Nye wadonjo githuon. Ji wuoyo maber to ngato yanyo wa ka. Kendo wabiro donjo kendo.Chookee.
@okewkanango…kwe e ber budho omin. Lakini donge ing’eyo ni mor ok mi ng’ato. Mor ikawo. @Ngesto I
would agree with you that pitch invasion is frowned upon everywhere but this time I will look the other way looking at the drought before yesterday then the glorious context in which the victory came….at the death. Anyone would forget sanctions and dockings and invade!!!
Musyom mi naeshimuingi wewe sana. Wacha sasa nakaa pole pole bwana. Hiyio mara sily stupid ndo maneno ya dharau kwa sisi. Lakini si tulikuwa karibu kulia halaf goal naingia chumblu. Juogi oidhowa nyaka pap kono. Otherws, kwe kende bro . Tibim
Musyom we naeshimuingi wewe. Naandika usiku halaf inapotea. Nimekuwa pole sasa. In aluori ga Omin. Tibim.
Okewkanango, you have gone overboard in this comment. Are you happy if such incident leads into violence and docking of our points by Kpl and FKL?
Celebration is not wrong but our enemies are outside there waiting for every opportunity to deduct our hard earned points so let us celebrate with dignity and honour taking into account of timu ya ofisi waiting for our points to be docked.
At list we naongea mzuri si kusema sili sitiupud. Otherws sisi hapana panga kuruka uwanja. Ni vile si karibu kulia halafu goal ndiyo hiyo.
@Ok ew kana go, You very helirous.
Jamigori bro yangu nasema hiyo Hilari ni anafanya mutu nacheka. Kuomi. Wacha nifuraha na kogalo. Tho luro.
Is this how the money of Kenyans is being used?
Online betting firm SportPesa has become the first Kenyan company to sponsor an English Premier League club after it signed a three-year deal with Hull City.
The firm will have its name and company logo on Hull City’s home, away and third shirts for the 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, according to information on the club’s website.
“The new sponsorship deal is the most lucrative in the Club’s proud 112-year history,” read a statement on the Tigers website.
The partnership with Hull City comes after what is seen as a vicious expansionist strategy by the bookmakers, which has seen them enter into other deals with the Kenya Rugby Union (Sh607 million), Kenyan Premier League (Sh450 million), Gor Mahia (Sh325 million) and AFC Leopards (Sh225 million), among others.

Yes let’s deport “iko teke” but roll out the red carpet and cheer Omar El Bashir and Sportspesa!!!!!
@Okewkanango, alot of us were very excited but we cheered from the stands, mambo ya githuon wachia watoto wa high school, the problem is that some fans think they’re mo die hards than others. Lets leave the pitch for players to avoid infractions considering the way the current fkf office is anti GMFC. K’OGALO DAMU
Ngeso. Manono za hi skul mimi hapana jua. Ngato nono najua lowa primari. Matusi ya sili sitiupud wacha. Kila mutu anapenda gor vile ye ajiskia. Sasa mbona kila siku sisi hapana ingia uwanja. Kwani hao watu wote wanaambiana turuke ama inakuja tu.
So sportpesa has become that rich over a short period of time. Let’s wait and see whether the useless sanctions will be applied there. I don’t quite understand this teke quote.
Teke ya Kofi Olomide.
Surely. Thanks so much BB. I had no idea, but now I can understand Oduor’s point.
@ngetso,i dont see the point of labling others stupid or clever, there are pple who cry when angry does this make them more angry than someone who is angry and is quite! the bottom line is that they are all angry.the fan were happy the ball was already over.city stars could not equalize.and the “invation” was made possible for the fans by the way gatusso celebrated his goal.did gattusso plan for that kind of celebration?no.did okewkanango plan for pitch “invation”?no!
Kuomi. Tibim. Juogi.
@okewkanango, sijatusi mtu yeyote ila natusi tabia inayotendeka. Samahani kama ulielewa vibaya
