Kenyan Premier League (KPL) giants Gor Mahia beat the Kenya U20 national side 1 – 0 in their friendly match played on Thursday 19 July at the Nairobi City Stadium.

Lavatsa’s goal

Edwin Lavatsa scored the only goal in the 64th minute after a nice build up by his team mates from the midfield which left him on a one on one with the national side’s goalkeeper Joel Bataro and he looped the ball over him.

Despite the defeat, the national side will take the plaudits for direct play against Gor Mahia as they managed to create good chances and attempts on target while Bataro was outstanding in goal managing to stop the hardworking forward duo of Itubu Imbem and George Midenyo.

We need Lavatsa to regain the form he had towards the end of last season when he was terorrizing defenders with his pace.
And where is Kevin Omondi siku hiz ? I havent heard from for a long time. I am concerned. I dont want Kogalo to loose anymore young promising players.

  • The group of Lavatsa, Kevin, Kitawi are some of the most talented young stars. But like the coach said he wants the young players to really fight up for places and not just be fielded because they are young. I only hope that the remaining young players like Daddy, Moses Otieno, Mbugua etc will be able to pull it off. Otherwise, I hope to see Lavatsa and the Kevins fielded over the weekend

  • As we move towards the end of the season, we need to look for ways to motivate our players like Kogallo fans, any ideas….Motivation is very important especially in football. Efusi is way ahead of us but we can start from somewhere!! Let’s say 1000shs from fans to every player for every goal scored etc, what other things are possible…

Kalixtos, i fully agree with your suggestion, we the fans, can contribute before the game and allocate it to the players for each win and each goal scored. What will it cost us? Not much, could be as low as 500 each from about 200 dedicated fans, that comes to 100k each weekend, can u imagine how motivating this would be to our players? Can you imagine how much they’ll want to adorn the shirt each game? The subsequent level of commitment? The rich fans who could help us are focussing on their political careers right now, after all, they did so much for Gor in the recent past, say 2006/7/8/9, when there were only a handful of fans going to the stadium and they may feel they’ve done enough. But it may be time for us, the middle class, to push Gor forward. It doesnt take many fans, just a few of us. Am ready, who’s ready with me? Who’s gonna take this forward?
Last Sunday, after my narrow escape in Nakuru, i went for my haircut in South B, and met a former Gor player in 2007 at the barbershop. He was almost in tears when i told him i had just driven from Nakuru (it was 9pm). He couldn’t believe nowadays there’s so much passion for Gor unlike in 2007, when they used to play infront of an empty stadium, hardly 50 fans in City Stadium.

  • @Joe Riaga, Lavatsa was back to his old form in yesterdays match. I know he will soon play a big role in our team. Kevin Omondi also shone but came in late in the game. The only clear difference in yesterdays match was the confidence, composure and ball control the under 20s had. On that end they were way above our team. That team can take Kenya places.

  • Last time I watched Lavatsa play is when I was still in Kenya last year and the young striker was in magnificent form as helped demolish AFC at Nyayo and what a display that was!!
I am waiting for his renaissance!!

Even from here in Ghana count me in for financial support to motivate the players. This is crunch time and such support can help turn the tide as we make the run for glory.

Ooh my, so there was a match! i’m so disappointed for having missed out. I’ve missed Lavatsa, Daddy and kevin Ochieng’ but remmeber we want the coach to have a free hand in fielding all matters regarding players.

Actually there are so many talented players in our ranks not just the above mentioned including Yusuf Juma, so many.

After the Nakuru showdown lets continue with the support.

  • Pod Antie and co. I had hoped the the Mpesa Business facility would enable fans to support the players/club as you have suggested.

    I.e have various options e.g.
    1. Player development account
    2.Match winning bonus account
    3.Membership fees etc etc.
The amounts contributed individually and collectively should also be available as a feedback.
Can someone give us a feedback how the mpesa business no. is faring?
Lastly how I MISS K’galo featuring in the on going CECAFA/KAGAME Club tourney!
Players and bench focus coz we don’t want to miss out next year.Kazi Kwenyu
