Gor Mahia edge Ulinzi

courtesy of futaa.com

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) giants Gor Mahia registered their 12th unbeaten game in the league with a well earned 1 – 0 win over Ulinzi Stars in the match played at the City Stadium on Wednesday 5 September.

Survived scare

Gor Mahia got the biggest chunk of clear cut chances in the opening half though Ulinzi Stars were dominant in possession but couldn’t make it count as the army side survived a scare on ten minutes when Ali Abondo’s long shot went straight to Jacktone Odhiambo.

Ulinzi Stars were once again let off the hook when, in the 29th minute Stephen Ocholla, already on a yellow hauled down Gor Mahia striker Dan Serunkuma in what looked like a clear bookable offence in  a first half that saw very few clear cut chances.

Rama injury

As the game headed to the break Rama Salim walked off with a bloody nose, the after effects of a challenge by Kevin Ouma and Gor Mahia thereafter survived a late scare as Lawrence Owino’s shot following a defensive mixup narrowly missed the target.

The second half sprung to life with Gor Mahia showing more vigour and created their first chance in the 48th minute falling on Dan Serunkuma but the Ugandan shot weakly with Jacktone Odhiambo closing in on him.

Withdrawn

Four minutes later he was withdrawn for Edwin Lavatsa as Gor Mahia piled the pressure on the visitors.

On the hour mark Kevin Omondi, another second half substitute picked out Victor Ali with a defence splitting pass, the former Tusker midfielder took a touch then perfectly picked his spot to give Gor Mahia the lead.

Lavatsa disallowed

Ulinzi, sensing defeat launched a series of attacks of their own but Jerim Onyango was equal to the task saving well from a close range Lawrence Owino shot and Lavatsa, on 85 minutes put the ball in the net but his attempt was ruled out for a handball.

Gor Mahia held on to go joint second with Tusker, on 40 points as Ulinzi remained rooted sixth with 37 points having gone three games without a goal.

    We give our Almighty God all the glory, honour and praise for the sweet victory over Ulinzi in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. God had given us this victory just like David and Goliath. Ulinzi played dirty most of the time with Ochola and Mulinge fouling our players at will and referee was unable to stam.

    Let all bloggers say Amen.

  • @Omusala I understand your concern. The league is now tougher than ever before and only God can help us since, if it’s fitness, all teams are now tough. At least God is answering our prayers. We hope it’s a draw on Friday so that if we win on Sunday we exert even more pressure on the leaders

    I thank God almighty for the win. Now the remaining real threat is the game on 23rd september even as we do one game at a time. If only tursker would do us a favour by beating ingwe on friday then the trophy will be ours on 23rd. Kudos boys for a win well taken. G’nite.

  • Awesome fighting Spirit, and with Ingwe also fighting for the championship, the rivalry will go even a notch or two higher. I am not sure how many of you fans will take my position but I am hoping that if Gor does not win the league then AFC should – best thing for soccer going forward in my humble opinion – also an AFC win will guarantee a Gor win next season :). Good to see that in reality we can do the treble though – Gor continues to make my day.

    What a sense of deja vu. All teams are plotting all manners of psychological warfare against Kogallo as was evident today with all the rough tackles on our key players and the pre-match apparent provocation of fans by the opposing team. Kudos to all Kogallo fans for having employed restraint during the entire period of play. Remember, you’ve not seen any pre-orchestreated schemes yet, with the treble title beckoning. Kogallo has proved that it is a force to reckon with. May the Almighty bless us all.

    Victory is becoming sweeter and pressure will start building in our camp after our next win if AFC or Tusker draw or lose as will be the case. This will raise the expectation of taking the trophy to about 99% so let us remain focused, prayerful, watchful and only concentrate on winning all remaining matches and not what happens to the other teams. Even a draw for us after winning on Sunday will be a big risk.

    @Mwakio amen.

    Indeed we give thanks, praise, glory and honour to you almighty God for our victory over Ulinzi. We thank you for the protection you have accorded our players and the entire K’Ogalo family. With your mighty hands you have encircled and shielded Gor Mahia against many unseen dangers in much the same way like gwend a-thing a-thing (alcohol-coloured mother hen) protects her chicks.

    Ulinzi put up a spirited fight but Kismayu had to fall much like the fall of Jericho (Joshua 6: 1-21). Under the command of General Kassam, K’Ogalo fans encircled Ulinzi with singing and blowing of oporo and at 7 minutes before the 70th minute they gave the loudest shout that sent the Ulinzi wall collapsing and Kismayu fell much like Jericho fell on the 7th day.

    It was great to see the net shake kutokana na bao lililofungwa kwa ufundi na ujasiri. Bao safi ambalo si la ki-China. And this put to rest the ghost of the controversy surrounding the top 8 final.

    Once again we thank you mighty God and we ask only that you grant us A WIN IN THE NEXT MATCH. Amen.

    I flew back yesterday morning to watch my favourite team disarming rugged Ulinzi who were out to injure and break the legs of our players. What was Ocholla and Mulinge doing in the pitch? Officiating was not very good at all as many poor tackles went unpunished. Rama was headbut, Akumu was kicked, Moses was kicked etc Damaris mishandled the game but our God gave us victory in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

    Today i lack proper words to express my feeling for yesterday’s win by K’Ogalo against Ulinzi. The only goal was a clear indication that indeed the boys are hungry for goals. The kind of fighting spirit injected into the team is awesome! I feel sorry for not attendind the match due to a by election campaigns now going on in my backyard.

    Tok Komwanda has become a slaughterhouse and teams are finding it extremely hard to go past K’Ogalo on this turf.

    You will all appreciate that it is partly due to the little pressure the technical bench is receiving while executing their mandate. I urge fans to continue giving our bench the support they need till the end of the season. I am always proud to be associated with this great club!

  • I can tell you all that the entire Gopr Mahia fraternity is at peace with each other .. i.e office managemant, players , fans and so things are just falling in their rightful place, . . . kudos to everyone involved.

    Like Jose Mourinho, Logarusic yesterday told the press that he doesnt want his players to feel the pressure , so he pffered to take it himself, by therefore opting to focus only on the next match, and not on the league. . .fans let us keep our heads coool

    Finally, since Multichoice stared showing K’ogallo matches live, I have gladly recorded all the matches and one day I will call upon all fans on this blog to come help us watch as we toast glasses of champaigne( Party in the hood, only Gor fans)

    For God and my club K’ogalo

  • I think the attitude and chemistry of the team is now upto scratch. The belief that we will win the next match is the motivating factor for both the players, fans and EC. Winning the next match definitely draws as closer to the real thing. Our organisation now looks superb, very few (or no) uncordinated press conferences, the TM and Assistant coach look to be giving the coach all the required support and the fans are ready to attend the matches even if KPL/FKF schedule a match each and every day. We raised close to 1m yesterday (a weekday afternoon match). So all in all every member of the gor movement have contributed in their own little way. And that should be the spirit. Let’s be there on Sunday to ensure that the three points remain where they belong. Note that now every team’s focus will be to beat K’Ogalo as that will raise that team’s profile

    A real good performance from the entire team,but quickly guys let’s change towards another perspective of the game that was overshadowed by the outcome of the game but is very critical in professional football,bellow is a topic that i came across in a social media after our match and i tend to agree with most of the contributors,has any of the bloggers noticed this kind of conspiracy and can it be stopped by logging a complaint as some contributors proposed hereunder?

    NOTE;i DID THIS WITHOUT THE CONTRIBUTORS CONSENT HENCE I DECIDED TO CONCEAL THEIR IDENTITY SIMPLY REPRESENTING THEM AS CONTRIBUTOR 1,2,3 ETC.

    THE MAIN POST:
    In football fouls are normal But when one team is clearly employing foul play as a means of stopping the opponent from play, then that is not normal. Damaris Kimani was too lenient on Ulinzi players especially in some instances which were clear bookable offence. We witnessed many instances where Ulinzi players were clearly not going for the ball but for the opponent. There were too many late tackles in the game & Ulinzi got only one yellow card (or was it two). Such kind of leniency from the ref sort of encourages the players to keep playing dirty. In one instance one Ulinzi player rammed the ball into Ali Abondo’s stomach after the whistle had gone & this was right in front of the ref. The ref did nothing.
    A good game of football yesterday. Too many school girl mistakes from the Ref.

    CONTRIBUTOR 1:
    I hate the behavior of that #2 against Lavatsa towards the end of the match…right in front of the referee….hastily kicking the ball before the whistle with a clear intention of injuring an opponent.

    CONTRIBUTOR 2:
    The lady referees, are the most incompetent in the KPL.

    CONTRIBUTOR3:
    i saw the same thing when we played Tusker at Kasari Top 8 & then when we played Ulinzi Top 8 Final. It was so systematic yet most of it went unpunished

    CONTRIBUTOR 4:
    One Stephen.Ocholla deserved a send off. A very bad timed tackle on Ali Abondo on the right touchline went unpunished simply because the offender had a booking already. The lady ref later confessed that she did not send him off coz GM players asked her kama hana kadi. So sad.

    CONTRIBUTOR 5;
    We seriously need to look at our officiating critically. If the game is to grow, all areas of the game must move at par. Our officiating is very wanting.

    CONTRIBUTOR 6:
    Then there was a clear elbow on Rama’s face by Kokoyo and a very silly hacking by Mulinge Ndeto on the same player. Poor officiating will end careers in this beautiful game. After consistent agricultural tackles midfield king pin Pablo is now in the doctors room.

    CONTRIBUTOR 7:
    Some were even career threatening tackles.

    CONTRIBUTOR 8:
    I think teams play against Gor mahia with a brief to bring down all the big boyz in our team,Did u see what sony did to dube in nakuru in the first leg,its more of a script

    CONTRIBUTOR9:
    I would want to believe that the Technical Bench took notice of all this and is going to launch an official complaint if they have not already. This has to stop. It is going to kill soccer.

    CONTRIBUTOR 10:
    Then there was the sick tackle on Master in the first leg against Muhoroni Youth.

    CONTRIBUTOR11;
    I agree Bernard Kabenn Mwenda. An official complaint together with video evidence should be a good point to start. I always believe that hings will start to change immediately everyone starts being held accountable for their actions. If we just let it go, this will go on & on forever

    CONTRIBUTOR
    I thot Ulinzi playerz were reasonable but afta yesterdayz game i saw some signs of immaturity…their aim was 2 injure our players but our gud Lord protected them…..Washindweeeeee

    CONTRIBUTOR 12;
    I’ve also noted with a lot of concern the way other teams think the only way to stop Kogalo is to play rough. Ulinzi, Tusker and AFC are notorious for this. Yet the refs stand by and do nothing. What happened to protecting players? This is likely to get worse as the race to the summit hots up. The office needs to lodge a complaint now before our boys get serious injuries.

    YOUR THOUGHTS GUYS?

    It was good game displayed by Gor mahia compared to recent matches where fatigued was common.I like coach reaction when things are not good in the field,he makes quick changes which has helped team to win most of matches.Its possible for Gor to win league by just defeating top 6 contenders.Well, done Kogallo,gor biro yawne yoo

    Our fotbal stds are growing but one part which has refused to grow is the officiating part and i blame this to KPL executive let them being reviewing matches and punish referees or even ban them for careless officiating coz i just cant imagine a player’s career coming to an end because of this poor refereing.Am sorry if i will annoy you comrades but one thing i do like in futbol is women refrees ,does it happen in KPL alone or it also happens else where in the world kindly advice coz i do not like them at ol, i have tried but cant.

    @Omwami Vitoo in post 40 these people (female referees) are here to stay. Our male chauvinism may not allow us to embrace there presence but there is little we can do. Just put up with it shemeji.

    As had been feared by some bloggers earlier before the match, Ulinzi’s hullabaloo after the top 8 final was going to inform some of the officiating decisions in yesterday’s match. Too bad it actually did.

    Let us leave them to be haunted by their conscience and consumed by their guilt. K’Ogalo family we need not worry because we are assured of the protection of our God, the mighty conqueror.

    Hope you guys saw what logarusic did when Sserunkuma missed a sitter for the second time. He called the subs and made an immediate change. The change made by logarithim is what led to the solitary goal and even the disallowed goal. Logarithim is what I call a tactician and a manager. Sserunkuma has been one of our best player since the 2nd half of the season but in this case it did not matter. He had to go out. I bet if it were one of the usual local coaches the guy would have stayed on until end of the match which would have ended in a draw. Now can everyone stand up to LOGARITHIM.
