Gor Mahia Face Ferroviaro De Maputo

Gor Mahia will face Ferroviario de Maputo of Mozambique in the preliminary round of the 2012 CAF Confederations cup. The 1st leg will be played February 17th and 19th and the second leg in Nairobi on March 2nd to 4th 2012. Gor Mahia earned the right to play in the CAF cup by winning the FKL cup in 2011.

The last time Gor Mahia played a team from Mozambique was 1988 when they played Costa do Sol in the second round of the Africa Cup winners cup. Gor Mahia won the 1st leg 2-1 in Nairobi and drew 0-0 in the return leg in Maputo. That was when Gor Mahia had a very good away record.

Should Gor Mahia win, they will proceed to the first round to play Al Ahly Shendi of Sudan in a match that will be played starting on March 25. The winner of that match will play ES Setif of Algeria, Simba of Tanzania or Kiyovu of Rwanda in the second round. Last year Sofapaka acquited themselves well by reaching the playoff round, coming within a hair of reaching the group stage.

  • This is great news – at least we will not be starting the campaing against the dreaded and well drilled North African (Egypt/Tunisia/Morocco) teams ….. we would be well served if we prepare by playing Malawi/Zambia/South Africa or Rwanda/Uganda/Ethipia club teams as friendly matches in away and Nairobi matches.
Coach Awono and the technical team – WE HAVE OUR WORK CUT OUT FOR US !!

    A GOOD START
Congrats to the new office for having concluded an open ,transparent and competitive recruitment process for the new technical bench in a manner that pleases all the stake-holders.In appointing Janabi Mahono we achieved the aspirations for both qualitative and competence levels as desired by fans from all walks of life.
    1. For those who wished kogalo to have a foreign coach devoid of partisan interest; the coach is a cameroonian and as such your demands have been catered for.

    2. For those who disliked the issue of a “mazungu” who are very expensive creature to maintain; the coach origin is purely black African from the west.

    3. For those who wanted a detachment from old culture of appointing coach that subscribes to the overzealous luo community and has no previous performance reference records; the coach has no affiliation at all and his performance during his acting capacity speaks volume of his capabilities.

    4. For those who preferred to have a defensive minded assistant coach to replace ZD ;Caoch Ken odhiambo has all the credentials befitting the position and our village-minded fans have the access to rapport with him in their vernacular if need be.

    5. By appointing former Bandari goalkeeping coach the EC has implemented professionalism approach of the highest order.

    THE WAY FORWARD

Let the technical bench handle the on going players transfer and recruitments without pressure and influence from any quarters so that we can judge there decisions and actions accordingly.

The EC should immediately provide the resources to the technical to enable them embark on some intelligence mission by carefully spying ,studying and assessing the opponents style of play ,the depth of their strength and weakness so that we can have a team preparation based on mental strength and appropriate strategic tactical approach plan.

LASTLY I WILL TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK THE NEW EC FOR IMPLEMENTING AN OPEN INFORMATION ENVIRONMENT THAT SUPPORTS OPENNES AND COLLABORATION AT ALL LEVELS.

    “GOD BLESS GOR-MAHIANS”

A favourable draw but GM must solving the “lack of goals” issue. Hopefully Awono can come up with a formula for scoring goals. If not , we will loose. A 1-1 draw in Nairobi followed by a 0-0 draw in Maputo and GM is out.

  • CAN K’OGALO SURPASS THE RECORD SET BY SOFAPAKA AT THE CAF CUP?

Now the draw is out, this should put the anxiety at the club to rest

Now back to business. K’ogalo will face a Mozambican side during the preliminary round.

What do we require if we must beat Ferroviario De Maputo?

    1. mental strenghth
    2. One or more build up matches
    3. Incetives
    4. Undue pressure
    5. Acclamatization

The technical bench is very aware of what is expected of them. I urge each of you to rally behind our able technical bench as they try to craft a winnning formula for k’ogalo.

Congrats EC, we now have a technical bench and can count on some professionalism in running Kogalo team affairs. I also like the speed with which this has been conducted, we need to start training early as we have a lot of games next season. Kogalo must not merely make the numbers in continental football. We have a reputation and Africa respects us, remember we are the most successful club in East Africa. The team must be at it’s best in discipline. No Balotelli behaviour. Please identify talent needed early and sign so that the team can train and play together. You will see so much support from the fans next season, you cannot afford to disappoint. For starters, we need full backs urgently. For left back posistion, Yusuf Juma of Thika, the lad is good. I’ve not spotted a right back but do whatever you can to sign one, Nasio is nolonger himself.

  • I read coach Odhiambo is ready to give his all for Kogalo and i hope the players are ready too. One thing that he and Awono must strive to do is instill personal discipline and belief in the players. There are Kogalo players who are always drinking in Umoja and i even saw some this past weekend.

There are things that don’t augur well for sports and hard drinks like Johnnie Walker can easily make people blame coaches when concentration goes down on players. It is the players who go out there to play and they are judged by results and that’s why Koops keeps on taking his boys to Mumias to camp. He is trying to keep them off vices and other bad influences.

Kogalo must as a matter of urgency identify a reliable location to be camping in. We are now facing African giants and we must start acting like champions.

creative village some people think there is personal life and official life..i say no what you do after work influences what you do at work.

I undertake to mention it again, the EC should not just consider involving psychologists and professionals like financial consultants to advise these young lads on health, finance and social issues..it helps build an all round person and professional.

I strongly believe GM must take its place as an institution not just a ball playing group.

We are bonding well with Awono and his technical bench,i think we should approach Maputo game with mixture of experienced and non-experienced players.I hope technical bench has learn t a lot from the previous El-merrek game, though we drew 1-1 but we gambled a lot with players before we got our pace
