Gor Mahia get reprieve

Gor Mahia will henceforth play their matches at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani until the club establishes a detailed security plan for their fixtures with possible heavy penalties in store following the fracas that broke out after K’Ogalofailed to clinch the league title on Saturday.
At the same time, pay television service providers and Tusker Premier League broadcast sponsors SuperSport have lifted their ban on airing K’Ogalo matches according to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairman, Sam Nyamweya.
Consequently, their FKF semi final against archrivals AFC Leopards will be televised live in a development that comes a day after SuperSport pulled the plug on Gor for the third time last weekend following incidents of hooliganism against their crew and equipment by sections of the Green Army support.
“SuperSport temporarily lifts the ban on televising matches involving Gor Mahia until investigations are concluded and FKF and Kenyan Premier League (KPL) disciplinary bodies deliberate and submit their decision next Friday,” Nyamweya said in his communique.
The latest sanctions against K’Ogalo stem from claims that SuperSport crew were assaulted at their City Stadium home in addition to damaging the broadcaster’s equipment after their team lost the premier league title following a 1-1 draw against Thika United.
Businesses and transporters also reported losses estimated at millions as well as unsubstantiated reports that two people lost their lives as alleged Gor fans went on rampage on Nairobi’s Jogoo Road and Central Business District.
FKF has given Gor a December 30 ultimatum to put in place a detailed safety and security plan as well as an anti hooliganism policy that will appeal to both the federation and league management body.
“We will also initiate the process of identifying the perpetrators and hooligans with the help of the police, Gor Mahia, supporters and the public,” Nyamweya added.
The federation chief reiterated that clubs were responsible for their fans actions as he urged them to sensitise their supporters on the essence of having a safe and secure environment for football.
The resolutions were arrived at a meeting convened by FKF, KPL and SuperSport to deliberate on the matter on Wednesday.
Tusker and Sofapaka will feature in the other semi on Sunday with the final set for Tuesday week at the same venue.
On Monday, Gor secretary, George Bwana, absolved K’Ogalo from blame saying they were yet to receive any complaints on the losses incurred by concerned victims besides the fact that most alleged incidents took place outside the City Stadium.
I absolve our EC on this saga and push the blame to police. Do they come to watch soccer or to keep peace? The way they station themselves your guess is as good as mine. Let them arrest any hooligan and we see if the Gor community will defend such a person. That’s the only time we can say Gor condones violence. There is no denying that we have some hooligans within us but just like we have insecurity within the country yet we have the police to deal with it. It’s good that sanity has prevailed and SS/FKF/TPL have seen that there is no way gor as a club can be naturing hooligans since gor itself is a victim of this. We should also as fans be moderate in our comments and let’s stop chest thumping and pointing fingers at imaginary enemies
Had we only yielded for this pitch earlier as had been suggested that there was security threat at TOK KOMWANDA , the rest could have been history in the making.
Anyway that is football, very unpredictable. But GOR MAHIA is the LEGION I subscribe to in the WORLD of FOOTBALL.
GOR you make football sports in your name and club to become a cult and as such you are one of the biggest club in our “WORLD VIEW” that will make soccer to be not only good but also passionate and entertaining.
That is why some of us including the likes of players like kina Rama Salim, Teddy, Daddy,Sserekuma and all our Diva’s wailed, cried and ultimately absorbed the shock out of very painful desperation after all that anticipation of lifting our self. But ALUTA CONTINUA, OUR RALLYING CALL STILL REMAINS AS USUAL “O.G.A.T.
Since I did not witness any hooliganism before , during and after the match! Only very late when I heard of the criminals donning our brand causing mayhem 3 hours after the match I categorically think that there is nothing to investigate since the truly K’Ogalo had accepted the defeat peacefully and actually ate our humble pie. Our pride befell us. Na tuli KUBALI.
Mad people especially the political class confuse GOR MAHIA ma K’OGALO with our community and as such we will not be intimidated . HATUTA KUBALI KUNYA NYASWA and that is why we as the truly K’OGALO we will for ever cherish your name in and out of the world of football. You are mysterious as your name “MAHIA”. You will for ever remain K”Ogalo….oooooo !!! Gorrrrrrr!…….GOR MAHIA AAAAAA?……….!!!! GOR MAHIA TIMBE DUTO yuak NI.
Some bloggers mentioned this, super sport is nothing without Gor Matches. Imagine supersport is bringing you a match between Muhoroni and Western stima, what a waste of time. Yesterday, they walked out on Gor, why are they now coming back to cover Gor/Ingwe match?. Bure! bure kabisa. GOR IS MIGHTY!
@OKOTH JABILO, I salute you comrade for your insightful blog. Gor Mahia indeed is here to stay whether you love it or you hate it. We as fans are also here to stay and to attend all our matches.
Gor Mahia will continue to make positive contributions towards the development of soccer standard in the entire country by scouting the right talents, putting youth structures in place and play a rightful role in the economic empowerment of our youths and other stakeholders that always identify with our cherished glamour club.
The sale of club merchandise will indeed go in a long way in economic empowerment of our youths and improving the revenue collection of the club going forward.
Finally, we all fans need to continue praying to the Almighty God to bless our club and to continue giving us victories over all our opponents and adversaries in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
We also pray to our Almighty God to help us stamp out thuggery, violence and any form of hooliganisms perpetrated by goons that have continued to wear our valued replica jerseys and may the Almighty God expose them hence be arrested by the law enforcers in the mighty name of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Amen
Lord exposed the financiers of these hired goons and let the whole world know the financiers of these heartless goons.
Guys i fear for GM for as at now we have no team manager and team doctor.
They have been sent away by loga since monday.
Its rumoured that after the sato thumping changes will follow as a result, i fear the more, just why and how? Why Can’t someone work with people? Oh not again, am so stressed to imagine ingwe comprehensively thrashing GM! I can’t stand it but that’s football.
Its getting worse.
Could the EC address these issues coz a divided house cannot stand against a formidable foe.
Kassim Mwivangano@5 please do not cry “wolf”, who is this your are referring to as “why cant someone work with people”. People do disagree and later agree and find a working chemistry and I believe the matter of TM is being handled at some higher level. Ingwe cannot beat Kogalo and have a strong belief in ourselves and it will come. We need to play continental next year.
Can someone make concrete plans to keep Logarusic so that we start early next season such that mid term we should be safely ashore? Is somebody doing anything, kindly inform us so that we know the position to calm our nerves.
Lastly we have said this more than a thousand times on this site. Your enemies are always waiting for any slight opportunity to soil the name of the club and our political leaders. I am not so sure that those who caused chaos on Saturday are Gor supporters, any thug can buy and wear Gor jerseys. Most painfully lets leave Tom Mboya statue alone, there are several other civil ways of celebrating or mourning.
HERE ARE SOME FEW PLAYERS FOR GOR MAHIA SCOUT TO WATCH FOR ……GODFREY WALUSIMBI, EDWARD SSALI AND ROBERT SSETONGO ( ALL UGANDAN) , EUGENE ASIKE, OSBORNE MONDAY, FRANCIS KAHATA , ( ALL KENYA ) , JEAN CLAUDE IRANZI ( RWANDA) AND STEVE CHAGOMA , FOSTER NAMALA AND HARVEY MKACHA (ALL MALAWI ) AND OFFCOURSE ROOSEVELT BLATTY ( ADMIRAL FC AND KENYA’S DIVISION 1 TOP SCORER )
GOOD LUCK KOGALLO.
WITH OR WITHOUT REPRIEVE FROM SS GOR AND AFC LEOPARDS WILL RULE KENYAN SOCCER.MY AFC TOOK AHOOPING 13 kpl trophes without ss.guys let meet on sato so that i can see if i add misery on you or if you get areprieve from me.
FKL CUP is our only hope for continental football next season. Let’s go boys and turn it our own. Let the tears inspire us to fight till we drop. We’ll be in the stadium as usual, by noon, to support you.
Kogalo for life.
blog 5 i dnt know ur talking true thing or lies but us us fans whts happpening EC not our problem same mess messed us am still down but we have along way to go ?kasarani poa and we would all sit on seats no grass hope all fans must now take care coz if we mess again idnt know wapi sasa but sato tumeenda tena huku .GUYZ MAK MY WORDS THAT IF WE DNT BEHAVE NO GAMES WOULD BE PLAYED IN NAIROBI COZ OF THUGS WHO ARE GIVING US BAD NAME APITTY THEM.
We can aswell move to Kisumu and build afresh there.Tutarajie kuhujumiwa for as long as we are based in Nairobi.
As an afterthought, we are in a good stead to emerge victorious come Sunday. The pain of missing the league tittle must be used by the Technical bench to spur the boys on. Loga appears to be a more accomplished coach than Koops both in technical and tactical understanding of the game. This might just turn the tide of play on our favour come Sunday. One thing that I must mention here and now, is that our system of play has become so predictable just as our line-up. Opponents can decide to pack the bus and get away with it, just as Thika United did last Saturday.I can assure you that the system of packing the bus is going to be employed more frequently by our opponents come next season . As they fail to outwit Loga tactically, they are likely to resort to packing the bus and hoping to hit us on the break. Loga must therefore begin to develop a system that can fool our opponents into attacking us hence decongesting the mid-field area. Gor Mahia thrives on the spaces and the channels in the opposition’s final third. Can you imagine the havoc we would create in the opposition’s defences if we had Paul Were and Kevin Kimani of Mathare operating on either wing of Kogallo’s mid-field!!! Where are the natural wingers of yore like Sammy Jogoo, Anthony Ndollo, Ben Oloo to stretch play to the wings!!!We need to have our creative players sharing the burden of goal scoring. How many goals did the rest of the team contribute to the total tally? Abysmal by any standard and this cannot be allowed to continue. Danny and Rama need to be challenged or else they will never raise their standards. Manchester United has realized the importance of having Natural wingers patrolling the flanks. Ashley Young, Nani and L.A.Valencia have continuously provided assists after assists to the strikers apart from scoring the odd goal now and then. Gor Mahia needs at least two natural wingers in the coming seasons. If we win the FKF cup, the signing of top talent becomes a necessity not a luxury as we will be competing with the best in Africa. The coach must go out of his way and recruit even from the lower divisions.
Bafana Bafana fans injured several Zambian players last night in South Africa after losing their friendly. Supersport wako wapi with the ban on Bafana. It is right at your doorstep. We need to see action like you take on Gor and its fans. The news is on supersport.com
EC please engage reputable firms like G4S security, BM security,Tickmasters who properly followed the tendering process advertised in Jan 2012.These firms have a track record.
1. Do not engage firms through the back door e.g Wells Fargo(though reputable did not tender.Who in the EC did they bribe),
2. Gor Security is a ploy by the EC to siphon money out of the club.Let this function be handled by the security agent and let these people sit among fans, with proper identification,to identify and hand over law breaker to the police.Arrest bhang smokers and alcohol drinkers but do not curtail freedom of speech.
3.EC STOP printing match tickets leave these to the ticketing agent.
@ Jakoyo we’ve got not only the talent to consider but finances and the law. Remember Ngwa Bildad had to be sent on loan because of the quarter rule ie the number of foreign players the club can sign, the work permit etc.
TO SLIDE IS NOT TO FALL DOWN
We return to Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani to meet our decades long rivals, AFC Leopards during the semi finals of the FKF cup.
As I have often said, it is hard to predict the outcome of this match because of the high stakes involved. This time round, the stakes are even higher as each team look for a consolation after the two top contenders lost the premier league title.
We have been assured of our security from none other than the president of FKF, Sam Nyamweya himself. We must now let all the security apparatus to be activated to curb the mindless acts of hooliganism now synonymous with the two community clubs. I personally welcome the tough stand announced by the FKF to ban for life those who may be caught on camera committing such henious crimes.
K’Ogalo needs to put it’s house in order to be a respected club in the community of football nations. It is laughable to suggest that the club can do without sponsors, at least for now. I have all along along advocated for the improvement of systems, strengthening of institutions and deepening of relations between the club and sponsors. For instance, why do we still have the executive committee print tickets and sale the mecharndise? I was suprised the other day when i visited the club’s address at Nyayo stadium. The office is more of a shop than what it is suppose to be. I must however admit, the current administration have made tremendous strides. We now have an interactive website, secretariat, bus and plans are still afoot to procure a car for the coach. We have also seen an upsurge in revenue in tandem with supporters. And the future is more brighter. You and I will make this club bigger, better and brighter.
First Gor Mahia is like a religion and a symbol of a UN now. Why?? It has a broad fan base which but across all regions, religion, tribe and race in KENYA. When Jaramogi Ajuma k’oginga while contributing to a motion in lancaster he said “whether u kithni or u ndekni kenya is marwa” this people didnt understand him. GOR MAHIA WAS THERE, IS HERE AND WILL BE THERE WITH OR WITHOUT those threatening him. Gor is hereditary and the cult is addictive.
i differ with some of us on this we are being taken round in suckers as if we are kids the match ended like 5pm these said incidents took place at around 7pm two hours later who was supposed to police stadium anything gormahia is worth like 5billion shillings here this ranges from all gate collection from 30 league matches , stadia hire , to sale of drinks , advertisement, etc so what of if gor fans would say that that they attend their home matches only atleast six premier league teams will run out of business who will advertise when their so prodigal supersport airs empty stadium matches isnt nyamweya running like a calf to print tickets for saturdays match dont bite the hand that feeds you FKF,KPL etc gor will remain here you better get your act right it is even hell taking the matches to kasarani cos the fans will still come back to town so this was an act of thuggery by a few group of people and this took place in areas with alot of police officers around three stations why could they not get arrested you expected rachier to leave his home to come and police njogoo road am so bitter we need to play fair to improve the league
Jb, hata fullstop huna? How do you expect anyone to undersand you comment?
Is the game tomorrow or on Sunday?
Nation newspapers have it on Sunday at Nyayo and several Radio Stations have it tomorrow which is which?
Game ni kesho, saturday, kasarani is the venue
Kiny. Kasarani. Please let pull out thugs who are out to tarnish our brand. Let us do this together in front of citizen TV , Maina Kageni and the likes!!!!!
If Only AFC and Gor fans got the BIG picture
This blogpost, I will confess has been difficult to write. I had to turn it over in my head and even sent it down to my heart a few times. In the end, like I have done many times before, I sat up to write it. I know some Gor Mahia fans who know me and have read the title have already scrolled to other things, some who have clicked on it are browsing to see a statement they can throw back at me. That is unavoidable in this game, I will take all in stride.
I am not a Gor Mahia fan, but my club loyalty has never shrouded my judgment of Kenyan football entities. One thing I try not to do is to write about my preferred club, when I have to write I make sure I am as objective as possible. So, I always take the bricks thrown at me by fans with a pinch of salt.
I will go tribal (most Kenyans are) and please do not take this as my excuse for tribalism but my explanation of the same. I am a believer in the spirit of Kenya and a firm believer in the Kenyan dream. I believe a section of Gor fans who cause trouble after matches should look seriously into their actions, the sooner the better. As I did after the ill fated match Gor Mahia fans display Luos siege mentality after AFC Leopards’ match , the recent Gor vs. Thika United match has awaken the writer in me.
I mentioned about the Luo community’s siege mentality that is born of past historical injustices. Again, everyone must take responsibility for his actions; I was just explaining why hooliganism is more than a football problem. Like Martin Luther King Jr. said, nobody can ride your back unless it is bent.
Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards’ fans are known for causing chaos whenever a match does not go their way. AFC Leopards’ may claim that Gor fans are worse but their recent actions in Nakuru point to a kettle calling the pot dark. The big question is who loses when fans take out their disappointments on innocent members of the public?
First things first, It is unfortunate that I have to profile the ethnic (or regional) identities of TPL players, but if it is good for the local game- why not? I failed to get the 2012 full clubs team lists, so I took my time to look at match team sheets which has eighteen players. Most if not all clubs constitute over 50% of players from Western Kenya (old Nyanza and Western provinces.) Do not report me to Mzalendo Kibunja just yet.
The good book in Mathews chapter 25 gives us the famous Parable of Talents. God, like the master who went on a journey gives talents according to the ability of the recipient. The third servant told his master he was a hard man who reaped where he did not sow as a reason for not doing much with his gift. The little he had was taken away and given to the first two who had brought returns of their investments. To who much is given, much is also expected and so the Luo and Luhya communities should take the gift of football very seriously.
When Tusker FC played Chemelil Sugar on 11th May 2012, all but three of their eighteen member team were from Western Kenya, Chemelil had eleven players from the same region. When Tusker recently beat City Stars 3-0 to win the TPL title, four players (including Obadiah Ndege) were not from the said region, City Stars had a similar number. What am I driving at?
I have not looked at AFC Leopards’ and Gor Mahia; of the two Gor will get a thumps up for recruiting players from all over Kenya while AFC tends to give consideration to players from Luhya community first. There is nothing wrong with either as long as football is played professionally. But when fans cause chaos, it is players who will suffer most, yet majority of them hail from the communities that support the two most popular clubs.
It is obvious that the two clubs cannot absorb all the talent from the bedrock of their fan base. So when Rangers FC winds up, it is not a Yobesh Ongeri problem but a Kenyan football problem. Several players will miss an avenue to express and develop their talent, and most of them will hail from the two communities. It is not just about Gor and AFC Leopards’.
In short, Gor fans, a majority of who are Luos should know that when they cause chaos they are hurting the local game, and by extension their brothers who play pay for it. The same with AFC Leopards’, fans of both clubs should endevour to make the local game appealing so as to attract the ‘neutrals’ who prefer to follow foreign leagues. The goal is to deny them the excuse that the local game is at the mercy of hooligans.
I write this with the knowledge that both clubs are capable of filling any stadium in Kenya to capacity if they mean business. Their matches are well attended, and they have a right to brag about it. What they may not know is that this is still a fraction of their fans; why are many of their fans afraid to come to the stadium?
In my earlier blog (I have attached the link above) I tried to explain why Gor fans tend to behave the way they behave. It is upon them to rise above prevailing circumstances and make the best of the situation. God gives talent, but it is the responsibility of the recipient to get the best out of this gift.
The local game has come from far but we still have a long way to go. I write this to ask fans, and especially Gor and AFC Leopards’ fans that for selfish reasons let them restrain themselves whenever they are disappointed in any way.
When Tusker wins, and Thika United also plays well, if you look well- it is good for the two communities who form the bulk of local football lovers. It is wise and prudent to lose battles gracefully if it will give you the impetus to win the war. I hope they get the bigger picture; it is the only way to avoid sweating the small stuff. This will also prevent other people from taking advantage of their weaknesses for selfish reasons.
Lastly, a toast to Bob Munro and Thika United founders. The two clubs have been instrumental in raising players from other communities apart from Western and Coast regions where for a long time most of Kenyan football players hailed from. Long Live TPL, FKF and the local beautiful game.
You can now send this to National Cohesion and Integration Commission. We can build the whole (country) by building the parts.

Well articulated @post 22. But you’ve forgotten the mr money bags of Kenya and blood hungry politicians who see every football gathering as an opportunity to attack political opponents and spill innocent blood in the orgy. Kindly include them in your next epistle.
Why has my comment been deleted/hidden yet it’s very important about our last match against Thika United? I’ll repeat it if you allow me pls…
Yesterday at 11pm I watched SS9 on TPL analysis for 2012. It was very disturbing to hear Mr. Kamau (Thika united coach) revealing he had gotten the clip for GM game plan for our final match against his taem (Thika United), watched it and then planned line by line against it to hold us to 1-1 draw. Who sneaked into GM’s training camp and forwarded the clip to this the Thika United Coach? I’m a curious fan who want to know lest it happens next season again.
