Gor Mahia go down to Tusker

Brazilian tactician Ze Maria suffered his first league defeat when Gor Mahia went down 0-1 to Tusker

Additional reporting from futaa.com
The match started on a low note as both sides looked keen to learn one another but the first chance was for K’ogallo , as David Okello was forced into a fine save by Ronald Omino, after George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo delivered a fine cross.

The match went into the break still goalless with Gor Mahia containing themselves well but were unable to create a clear goal scoring chance. Owusu would had given Tusker a lead after Shakava had missed Batambuze cross while trying to clear it but on his way to scoring he handled the ball prompting referee to penalize him.

Walusimbi who was coming back to starting eleven since international duty failed to score for green army fumbling with the ball inside the Tusker box after receiving well taken pass from Kahata.

As the first half was running down, Shafik Batambuze long cross found Noah Wafula unmarked who controlled the ball perfectly, only to see his effort go wide with Boniface Oluoch well beaten

Shafik Batambuze still remained a threat on the left wing bringing in cross after cross which Boniface Oluoch cleared was forced to come out of his line several times to deny Ghanaian import Stephen Owusu a chance to tap them.

Rejuvenated Gor Mahia

After the break, Gor Mahia come out rejuvenated side and looked more dangerous forcing the hosts to sit back on their half with Agwanda heading far wide Walusimbi’s cross leaving the green army supporters with mouth wide open. The K’ogallo riot didn’t stop there as few minutes later; George Odhiambo again in the box failed to convert another cross coming from Ugandan Import Walusimbi.

Controversial penalty

However, on 69th minute, a free kick which was floated into Gor Mahia’s box by Shafik Batambuze led to a penalty after the second referee assistant alerted the center referee that Sibomana had committed a foul by pulling Shivachi inside the box forcing the referee to point to spot kick but replays shows Asike had handled the ball and Mieno did well to give the Ruaraka based club a lead.

Hooliganism

The decision from the officials provoked green army fans with fresh acts of hooliganism being witnessed forcing the match to stop for ten minutes and after the match resuming, Gor Mahia were unable to get an equalizer even after bringing on, league most expensive player as their fate was already sealed.

Tusker now tops the table with 20 points while Gor Mahia remains eighth in the table with 11 points. This is the first defeat for Ze Maria since he took over as the head coach of Gor Mahia.

  • The” Politician” is gone! Now I am waiting for the sycophants to attack me. FN could not perform miracles with this team. Neither can Ze. In fact Tusiyenge and a few players have really saved Gor in their few appearances. Poor officiating not withstanding, the strikers are goal shy. Some funs were strategically waiting for any opinion that is not glorifying the Ec to counter. Objectivity objectivity. I have nothing against Ze but I still salute FN.And I miss Loga.Call me names if you like.

  • Kichapo well in order. Congratulations to champions elect tusker, they will denitely win the league this season.

As for logallo, I have identified 5 players who should exit the club in June. Its time to overhaul the strike force and inject new blood in defence.

    • Surely by the 70th minute there is no goal! Ze should stop smiling. Do away with ghost players. It doesn’t matter who they are related to. Otherwise relegation is a reality. And it will be a big shame coz we are the defending champs and we have sponsors.

Relegation?that won’t happen. Tusker Champs? Not too sure about that.
As for the game we conceded a stupid penalty…sibomana should have known better.strikers?non existent…except for tuyesenge!!

  • 1st June get Kagere.Release Aucho and Walusimbi.Give Marcelo more play time and work with players who can be of value. We need radical changes in June.

  • I like this tactical play deployed by Ze Maria.I was already bored by the direct football we used to play.if we could only get a very prolific stricker to assist tuyisenge.if we keep the rythmn of current tactical development I will be very patient.CNAPS coach after beating gor 2:1said gor was playing direct football of long passes and runs and therefore easy to handle. All the team’s that reach group stages none if u look keenly plays direct football.Gor should utilize ze maria well for tactical growth.

    • Those teams plan well in advance for such tournaments. They don’t loose 3 key players without replacing them with players of their calibre. The direct boring football gave us satisfaction for a whole season. We could leave the stadia dancing our heads off. We almost clinched the Cecafa trophy. I know which side you are. Forgive me but you behave like Ngala’s mouth piece. We wish Ze well but good football without scores will not endear him to the fans. Be objective like other bloggers.

  • Gor played well but there r few players who need to go. The defence department is letting Gor down. Siboumana, Musa et Shakava need to style up in tackles. Siboumana in his panic state was caught in player tagging that even he himself could not realise. Wether what he did was enough for a penalty is debatable but it did deserve a foul call. Ze Maria has improved the Gor game but players like Wafula et Blackberry do not seem to adapt. Players like B.Oluoch shud also style up. A penalty against Gor does not mean its the end of the world. What he did simply encouraged fans to disrupt the match. Tuyisenge brings in a zeal that you donot find in local players. He needs a Kagere beside him even though he is gud enough to carry Gor on his own. Musa did well to calm down the players but was badly let down by the ghetto behaviour displayed by B.oluoch et Siboumana. Gor game is gud but lacks speed. I thnk Gor will make an impact once the new pattern is learnt well. I expected Tusker to pin down Gor given their recent improvement but what I saw was a team that feared Gor. That they resorted to the Kenyan style timewasting tactics tells us alot. Good game.

  • @A person ,the direct football you long for denied us a trophy in CECAFA.Look at what Azam defender Pascal Wawa said”easy match today”.2nd Nuttal had the right ingredients so you can’t start hitting Ze Maria’s tactics yet you know how Gor signed a good number of villagers.

    • Reread my post. At least you acknowledge the village signings. I have never attacked Ze. I just want those who expected FN to perform miracles at the beginning of the season to see the sense. On direct football or whatever it is referred to, I am sarcastically responding to some subjective fellows here.

  • Personally and all real Gor fans should have issues with defense;also make Bonny understand he is a proffesional;our striking dept maybe Add Kagere and one young striker.

  • Last season, we survived with a weak defence because our strikers and midfielders provided enough cover. Now that the striking force is gone and the midfield is indisciplined, the defence is more often caught off-guard. Ze Maria, I commented on the previous post that some players should be relegated to the bench for the entire season. What a weekend of shame! Gor youth beaten, Gor senior team beaten. What did we sign Luke, Saleh and Marcelo for if not to complement the fragility in that defence?
In June, as a fellow blogger has commented, give some players busfare back home because Gor house can no longer contain them. Gor is not a team to exist in the eighth position with all games played, that is too embarrasing to persevere as a fan donning a Gor jersey!

    • l’ll speak my mind on fielding of players of late based on favoritism. Honestly why can’t we try a combination of Luke and Saleh at the defense? coz Shakava is shaky has poor ball controll and he’s prone to making unecessary fouls same to Musa uncountable mistakes at the back.Shakava hawezi eka Saleh kwa bench let’s be serious guys. On striking department likes of BlackBerry and Keli should be released coz the add no value or their impact is negligible. ln midfield l feel Aucho should be released in favor of Kagere in transfer period and Wendo is too heavy bado hawezi. lf the coach is serious he should stop playing safe and make bold decisions by benching players who are non- performers and feel it’s their right to be in first eleven. To the EC reduce gate charges as witnessed yesterday the attendance was poor since most fans are demoralized and our performance is pathetic. For God’s sake we have around 2 sponsors why steal from us fans by overcharging entrance fee.Hii Club iko na Mafisi whose interest is to milk the coffers dry shame on you .

I do not condone hooliganism, but officiating need to to acceptable standards, that was a very dubious penalty and was awarded as an afterthought. Too bad but we should accept and move on. There are those condemning the using some unpalatable superlatives but this was the first pitch incident by kogalo in very many years. Does anyone remember how many times Ingwe was involved in this over the last two years? Do you recall that Ingwe man who invaded the pitch and chased everyone around? There were no such intense condemnation as is coming about Gormahia. Shows well how disliked by a majority of Kenyans we are, so we need to tread really carefully.

    • The assistant ref raise of flag was right. Siboumana seemingly in a trance had Shivaki on a lock-down. Siboumana kept tagging even after the foal was called and never even seemed to b aware of what he was doing. This suggests that he does this as habit. Once the assistant called this the ref had no choice. There was no poor officiating in this case.

  • It’s sad that our team is loosing matches. However, on another level, that’s kinda nice since it shows that to make it to the top, you have to work for it.
On another case, who manages this website ? Why we don’t get updated regularly like before ?

  • Gor played very well but officiating was wanting. We were going to get a goal or two but the timing of that penalty was meant to kill our fighting spirit. The actions of the assistant referee after calling for infringement raised eye brows

Technical bench has favorite players and my opinion is to fire Jolawi and Ogweno. These two guys are the big let down to the club. There is no problem with direct football if you have intelligent strikers and good midfielders that can make killer passes and support the strikers.

I still believe FN was one of the best coaches to coach Gor Mahia in the recent past. What matter in football are results and I can swear that FN was let down by inept office led by Ambrose Rachier and players that were hell bent in sabotaging him.

It is pay back time now and let them eat the humble pie which they had cooked. The Englishmen say, “what goes round comes around to haunt the saboteurs”. They sabotaged FN and let them continue loosing. I have no apologies to make on this matter.

    • @ Jamigori today you have hit the nail on the head. I have been quite since the beginning but I was just waiting for such scenarios to unfold. Had it been FN with these results we could be reading about comparison of his salary with the other coaches, ohh FN has lost the dressing room, politician…….. and the list was endless. Now the likes of Boni and Gatuso are still indiscplined! What we want is results. I would rather Maurino’s style with a trophy than Wenger’s style with no trophy. And every coach has his own style. After all Tusiyenge was signed during An reign as coach. Some players are permanently benched and others fielded regardless of their mistakes. And am free to say that I miss Loga’s theatrics on the touchline.

      • @Jamigori amd a person l concur with you guys that the technical bench is favoring some players like Shakava and Berry should not appear in first eleven at expense of the team. Time will tell that with this trend of favoritism expect pathetic performance and more pressure from fans demanding results. Ogweno and Jolawi stop misadvising the coach coz we can all see non performing players.

I believe this is a learning phase. Our players, especially the defence have always been causing fouls and getting away with it. Now the regime has changed and we are no longer the blue-eyed boys of Kenya football. So Shakava, Musa, Bonnie, Sibomana need to know that the regime has changed.
On fielding, why Saleh and Luke are never given playtime I don’t know.
Our only challenge is the offensive. Why BB and Agwanda always hope to pass the pass in the box instead of taking the initiative I can’t tell. Whatever happened to Wafula, Aucho etc I cannot tell. And thses are the same players who were giving the team hell before the season started. As much as they finished the season on a high I belive right now very few teams would break the bank to sign them. So offloading them will come with some financial implications.
On rowdy fans, let’s know that we now have sponsors whose image we have to protect. Unfortunately quite a number of our fans don’t know how the corporate world views how they brand is portrayed out there.
To me all is not lost and the two teams to watch are Mathare and Tusker. Ingwe cannot sustain their momentum since they don’t have the material in terms of players to do that. Relying on an unreliable Aswani will be their main undoing. For us with Jausenge showing the likes of BB, Keli and Agwanda what a striker should be doing we are still very much in it.

Whoever watched the penalty awarded to West Ham against Leicester will not have doubts on the Gor one. The only problem was the decisive action by the officials.
All the same let’s support the team and for those raising the issue of gate fee, how can gor determine the fee when they are the away game?

Six ‘Gor mahia’ fans in court for weekend skirmishes. I think that is a step in the right direction so that we can clean our football and club of the se destructive elements. Unfortunately these could not be the suspects but at least it sends a message to the others. Let’s watch/support our beloved team in peace and let everyone enjoy. After all we have also been victims of bias officiating.
In case the six are found guilty that’s when they will find themselves alone and only their family members will bare the suffering. Unfortunately their fellow ‘fans’ will continue to watch Gor matches like nothing happened
