Gor Mahia in the 1977 Africa cup of champions

Gor Mahia qualified for the 1977 Africa cup of champions by virtue of winning the 1976 Kenya Premier League, which they won with an unbeaten record.

First Round: Gor Mahia vs Yamaha Wanderers.

In the opening round, Gor Mahia were pitted against Malawian champions Yamaha Wanderers of Blantyre. A team that would later change names to Limbe Leaf Wanderers and later Mighty Wanderers.

Gor Mahia surprisingly lost the first leg 1-2 to the Malawians. In the second leg, played in Blantyre Malawi, the Gor Mahoa rear guard with new sigining Bob Ogolla, Francis Mudany and Paul Oduwo Cobra were better able to contain the dangerous winger Bennet Gondwe. Gor Mahia won the second leg 2-1. With the scores tied at 3-3 on aggregate, the match went to penalties which Gor Mahia won 5-3.

Second Round vs Mufulira Wanderers.

In the second round, Gor Mahia were pitted against Zambian Champions, Mufulira Wanderers. Kogalo won the first leg 2-1 before losing the second leg 2-4. Because of the away goals rule, the match went to penalties which Gor Mahia lost 4-5.
