Gor Mahia’s 35 match unbeaten run in Kenyan Premier League was brought to an end on Sunday as bitter rivals AFC Leopards downed the champions courtesy of Lamine Diallo goal.
The fifteen times Kenyan Premier League champions came into the match as underdogs following recent unimpressive displays, but they settled first as early as the second minute, with Lukas Indeche pushed into a fine save by Godfrey Walusimbi.
It was a one way traffic in the early exchanges with Gor Mahia roaming freely in the field as Leopards looked confused, marshaled in midfield easily as Ingwe players were reduced to just spectators.
In the 12th minute, Indeche was once again forced into a fine save to deny the dangerous Walusimbi with Ingwe forced to spend most of the time defending as the forward line led by Kepha Aswani could not find the way past resolute Gor Mahia defense.
Talented but inexperienced Alfred Wekesa was forced out in the twenty eighth minute following an injury with Allan Kateregga taking his place, a substitution which changed his teams fortunes, and his effect was felt as early as the 32nd minute when he released a fierce shot which troubled Jerim Onyango, who eventually managed to control it.
The first half ended with both teams balanced, as the goalkeepers played a big role in ensuring no team scored. In the second half, Gor Mahia started the match as they had started in the first half, however, this time round Ingwe was equal to the task.
In the 68th minute, Kahata looked certain to score in the danger zone, only to see his shot hit a defender and bounce out to safety. This came amid substitutes by both sides, with Lamine Diallo taking Simon Abuko’s position, as well as Enock Agwanda being introduced.
However, it was the former, who made the difference in the 80th minute when he converted a cross from the left to snatch all the three points, as well as the bragging rights for Ingwe.
The result means Ingwe is on top of the table with ten points in four matches with Gor Mahia having only three points after same number of matches.
Starting XI: 1.Jerim Onyango, 5. Musa Mohamed, 10. Khalid Aucho, 26. Luke Ochieng, 8. Francis Kahata, 6. Collins Okoth., 18. Harun Shakava, 2. Godfrey Walusimbi, 29. Innocent Wafula, 25. George Odhiambo, 3. Abouba Sibomana
Reserves: 23. Bonface Oluoch. 22. Leonard Saleh. 7. Ronald Omino. 24. Enock Agwanda . 2. Karim Nizigiyimana. 20. Ernest Wendo. 27. Jacob Keli
Admin…are you honestly suprised? Just look at the starting eleven. They lost to a bunch of high school students who have never played in a derby before. The week of kichapo is over and lets call for the TB to politely resign….
@Jakoyo. am sure that now Nutall is gone you e a happy fellow
Largely expected.a team that cannot score cannot win.anybody who was expecting a win, was being too optimistic.am starting to review my terms of engagement with the politician oh!sorry coach Nattul.4th match and still very poor fitness level.even recently collected young boys of AFC are better in fitness and beating For despite having all national team materials. This is unacceptable especially considering how highly he is rated.
It is becoming apparent that Gor Mahia needed to reinforce the striking force more than any other department. Agwanda and Keli will not surfice because of their height. Gor needed to sign Ibrahima Sane from City Stars but instead they went for Keli who thrives on spaces and offers no plan B. The team also needs Tuyisenge to recover quickly or else we will be left with a mountain of points to claw back. To coach Nutall, we partly blame you for not starting with your two most forward thinking strikers. Why did we buy Keli if he is not going to be fielded in matches of this magnitude? We cannot continue to lose to every new coach appointed by Efusi. First it was Peter De Jong and now Minaart. What a shame! Nutall must wake up and give us some answers. Yes the goal was lucky but what about us not taking our chances? Efusi got one chance and efficiently utilized it. We urgently need improvement.
No team can go unbeaten forever …. it is way too much pressure on players and the TB to bear for long.
It was a great run by the boys, and they should be congratulated for the great run.
Now that the pressure of maintaining the unbeaten run in the league is over, lets go back to having fun playing football again !
GOR CAN STILL WIN THE LEAGUE – but only if the team can start scoring goals again !!
am getting rumours that the mashemeji derby ended gor’s unbeaten run. i think it is high time i reviewed my engagement with kogallo’s EC and playing unit.
this is treason that borders on mutiny. the ubiquitous excuses of the team still gelling, fitness levels being low and creating many chances without converting will soon flood our ears.
the attacking formation is dead and players ‘can’t run and think at the same time’. for how long will i face this torture?
We can’t win them all.congratulations to the team for a very long unbeaten run. No team in Kenya will ever achieve that milestone….no wonder we are the envy of so many!
The boys tried their best but without scoring it’s hard to win. All we need to do now is to focus on that. The other thing is that our foreign legion is currently down. Siboumona is currently still off and so is Nzigimana and Aucho.
All we need currently is prayers and hope that all will be alright
No strikers, there are good midfielders, good defenders and goalkeepers. Natull should stop experimental work, playing team that you played in Ethiopia and Sudan
Wafula et Blacberry are the most technically innept players currently in Gor. I am left wondering wether Nuttal was watching a diff match. Why does he insist on crosses. My other problem with Gor was the panic play once Afc scored. If this current approach is not changed then this team is in for a struggle. Gor could b having the best midfield but the poor wingplay is going to take its toll. The Gor attack is basically disconnected from the rest of the team. Otherwise congrats to Afc.
I Am not against Jerry as a person but with Jerry in goal it was just a matter of time before our unbeaten run is broken.
Striking force also has issues. We wasted soo many chances. Let’s pray that Tuisenge gets healed soon
Pathetic! what a lost opportunity due to the “big man” syndrome we’ve stagnated so much so that the rats are now stealing our cheese e.g the cnaps and efusis of this world are nowdays beating us, Why Keli / Saleh and not Dan ” Flava” or even Love-A -Star after all, all are “failures” in their foreign exploits,
I can’t blame nuttal on this. I blame the E.C for poor recruitment. Ebrimah sanneh was a good player Gor let go . on Jacob keli there was a reason why nkana fc released him. we are suffering from lack of good quality strikers. Agwanda is a very heavy striker no skills no pace just strength and knows how to throw the ball far. our defence is so far the best. our midfield is good. kahata is so much good playing quality football but attack is the problem. we have no strikers. Blackberry seems to be catching up with age. no impact in the game. we bought Edmond murai and James ogada but I haven’t seen a thing from them. from now till June we must prepare ourselves for lack of goals at gor mahia. let’s hope tuyisenge comes back from injury and helps us. But come June I hope Gor can sign quality. kiongera in Tanzania is struggling to get to first 11. he has a knuck for goals and has proven himself while at kcb and gor. We need him in Gor Mahia to partner with tuyisenge upfront. wafula and walusimbi are both good on the flanks. the striking department is wat is ailing us.
Good people. plz let us not mourn its normal in a game of football to lose and again AFC are our shemeji not good good when we defeat them always. For a healthy relationship we must accept they played well and we did not capitalize on our good chances that we got. we just need a striker and Boniface to go back to the post and the points will just come our way and not surprised taking the league . Again good people of Kogallo AFC wnt last with that form they will lose it soon after ten matches and we will take lead as usuall trust me. team cheers you played well and kudos to coach for calmness during the match.let us make sure tuyiseng is sharp and i think he wil also pull others to start scoring goals so that we reclaIM OUR position.
@Jakoyo, players tried their best yesterday and fans also behaved well. Insulting players won’t help matters. GOD BLESS MIGHTY K’OGALO
All said and done, Gor Mahia is still in contention to win the 2016 league. Nothing has been lost. The gap is very small and take it from me, Gor Mahia will be crowned champions 2016. Its a matter of time before Agwanda and Kelli find their scoring boots. Olunga went almost 6 games before netting his first!!
Eventhough dissappointing,we have to admit that finishing is our main undoing
Don’t blame the coach;blame poor signings
My sense is Gor will bounce back. No way AFC will do better than Gor. Their players and just but ordinary. No wonder @Ingo is not puking here.
Unanitafutia nini sasa.
No trolling please. Trolling leads to insults and foul language. I am trying to keep comments clean
Kindly tell me y u would terminate a abondos contract which is still valid for anatha 1 yr and by doing so the clun looses millions…This is whats wat ails the club..a schemin double dealing EC
The team played well ..only scoring issues need to b sorted out n team unity. Playin unit must b tight . Lastly, in life u make the best of what u have. Agwanda n keli shd now be sharpened n improvd with ebery match. We can still take the league. Gor will bcome lyk lots wife if it keeps luking bhind for kagere n olunga. Trust me…lets thank god for what we have n nuttal to sharpen them, then we ll b the happiest lot. Also be positiv n speak well of the team. Lastly, be thankf to god who gave us an unbeaten run.
Well said @Akinyi. This whinning about Kagere and Olunga must stop. Even the best of lovers part ways but live continues. The same Agwanda, BB and Keli have scored more than 10 goals at times in the KPL. We just have to stop playing them the way we played Olunga and Kagere. They have their strengths which we have to exploit
I thing some players are just being misadvised where will he now go because Abondo cannot play three matches in SA perfectly and he will be sent back soon
You mean to tell me the team and the coach was totally dependent in three players and now that they have left , the team cannot score?
Now is the time for Nuttall to prove Logarusic wrong. Remember Loga claimed Nuttall was a physical fitness guru posing as a coach. Nuttall needs to work on strategies to sharpen the attack. Rachier needs to throw his weight in support of Nuttall.
Hayo ni Maoni yangu
Sometimes a loss like this one would inflict some sense to Nuttal et al. Is blackberry better than Agwanda or Keli?? Did Innocent Wafula (and Black berry) have to take that long to be substituted?? Why cross balls that a header when you have short players upfront like black berry?? What is Bonni doing on the bench—–I hear of a fallout between Bonni and Nuttal. this is just the first one soon it will more fallouts. ofcourse players will deny of any fallout but i can see it coming. Could Nuttal be running out of ideas?? Could we learn something from Chelsea when they took a bold decision to reorganise the technical bench by releaving the award winning Mourinho and bringing Hiddink?? Mourinho was good but when it became apparent that the players were not willing to deliver under mourinho a big decision was made? It is a shame watching Gor at this moment. Gor Management are not to spare. You cant let go Olunga and Kagere and hurriedly sign a player in the name of Tuyiesenge before even carrying a medical test. (this is Falcao type of signings). Wafula and Aucho disapears throughout the pre season only to appear and walk straight to the pitch for a KPL match. Am very ashamed as a Gor mahia fan.
Nuttall is making fool of everyone’s intelligence here. You can not tell us that without Olunga and Kagere Gor is no more..definately Coaches are trained on how to address people and this was a very important match. Just telling us we dont score because of players already enjoying themselves elsewhere is in extremme bad taste mr coach.
It’s official, coach Nuttal has moved to egypt as assistant coach for zamalek. A Spanish coach is on his way to take over at gor mania.
Report reaching me here in diaspora:

With a new coach let’s all open a new page
Now your enemy is gone let us wait and see if the bloated office will stay. They too will have to go when their time reaches.
Nuttal had run short of ideas, those strikers we admonish daily in agwanda, keli and blackberry can score if only the game plans and tactical/technical formation suits them but the insistence on a tired, old and predictable 4-4-2 system using long balls on the flanks and crying over departed strikers like Nuttal was accustomed to would not have helped us one bit.Well he’s back to familiar territory of fitness trainer in zamalek,so lets wait foe our new coach.A real tactician does what ingwe’s coach did with unknown minnows yesterday due to superior tactics so clearly Nuttal was masquerading as a coach here…So rightly said Logarusic…
That game could go either way. The boys also created chances but were poor at finishing. In fact I think they created more chances. AFC Leopards goalkeeper, Indeche also had a good game. Let’s see how they will fare on in the subsequent games, hopefully with a new Coach. I also hope that EC will look for a good Coach.
