Gor Mahia raid KCB vault

Courtesy of michezoafrika.com

Gor Mahia moved up to the sixth spot in the Kenyan Premier League standings courtesy of a hat-trick by Rama Salim whose combinations with Dan Sserenkuma not only entertained the mammoth crowd at City but also proved capable of pushing Gor Mahia to challenge for the title.
The first corner of the match fell to KCB and was well executed by Clifford Alwanga. The clearance allowed Rama Salim charge towards the KCB half but his through ball to Sserenkuma was well read and cut out.
Center referee Raphael Nduati had to stop the match for minutes to allow fans who took vantage positions at the top of power lines come down. After play resumed, Moses Odhiambo was on the offense as he chipped a great free kick that went off target.
KCB’s Brian Osumba almost caused an early upset after he beat defender Ivan Anguyo but keeper Jerim Onyango stood strong and parried away the danger.
Just as KCB seemed more likely to score, Gor Mahia came knocking with a powerful combination.Sserenkuma delivered a well-timed pass to Rama Salim who rounded keeper Adola before planting the ball into an empty net to send the packed stadium into frenzy.
Gor Mahia’s celebrations were short lived as three minutes later good combinations involving Osumba and Mwaura opened the defense and allowed Elvis Ayany find space to beat Jerim Onyango for the equalizer.
Gor Mahia’s Joseph ‘Pablo’ Njuguna then spotted keeper Adola off his line and tried a long range shot that narrowly missed target. Moses Odhiambo overlapping run five minutes to the break ended on the top of the net.
In the final minute of the first half, Danni Sserenkuma again provided an accurate assist that Rama Salim slotted home to give Gor Mahia a 2-1 lead at the break.
At the start of the second half Gor Mahia Coach Logarusic introduced David Owino for Solomon Nasio. Gor had the first chance .Rama Salim tried to find Sserenkuma but KCB defender intervened at the right time.
The man of the day Rama Salim brought the stadium to light again after beating two KCB defenders then calmly completed a hat-trick in the 63rd minute.
Minutes later, he unselfishly fed Sserenkuma but the Ugandan back heel effort never troubled keeper Caleb Adola.
KCB created two great chances in the 77nd minute that allowed Jerim Onyango display some of the skills he has learnt from keeper trainer Idd Salim. Three Minutes later Jerim also comfortably held on to Jacob Keli’s long range effort.Keli again had a decent effort blocked by Jerim Onyango five minutes to the end.
The final effort was by substitute Victor Ali whose free kick veered off target before the referee called the proceedings to an end as Gor Mahia faithful sang their way to the city as is tradition.

  • I thank God for the sweet victory. I return glory and honour to our Almighty God for the victory. May Almighty God continue to bless the team, players, technica bench, EC and fans. We collected three important points. We are weak in defence and I think Owino/Mohamed are better than Anguyo and Mosoti who have been making silly mistakes.

The coach need to look at our defence before it is too late.

Well the coach has done well in boosting our results.

Phew! What a match! Thank you Jesus and congratulations team.

Those two little men are the deadly revelation of the second leg.

Points to note: There is good discipline in the team. Team’s confidence is rising steadily and self-belief is evident. The team can now maintain its tempo for the entire 90 minutes. The coach read the game well and made meaningful and effective substitutions. The KCB coach was silenced and put in his right place. We have dispatched two most difficult teams in succession.

However defense is our worry and I believe the technical bench is working on this.

Thank you fans for filling Tok Komwanda to the brim.

First, my hat off to Rama Salim for the hatrick. Coach Logarusic seem to have found the perfect combination between the two diminutive strikers, Salim and SSerenkuma.

I must quickly add that the rest of the team played fairly well except afew lapses at the defence. Edwin Mwaura was a real threat and the boy displayed flashes of brilliance throughout the game ( I hope our scouts are watching).

Let me also commend the fans for turning up in large numbers. The few fans who were caught hanging dangereous on the floodlit mast, need not to be reminded on the danger they are exposing themselves and the club. These were some of the security concerns the world football governing body, FIFA have been raising with the officials.

At number six in the KPL table standing, we have a reason to dream again. Let us keep the momentum and our eyes always fixed on the ultimate prize. It is not a walk in park to get there. It calls for long hours of practise, single minded concentration and tough sacrifices.
    Well done boys!

  • Boys, thanks for the win. I liked the fighting spirit and the confidence of the players. The fact that we can now start the moves from defence shows how confident we are now. That’s modern soccer for you. On the defence despite the lapses, Anguyo and Mosoti have the physical attributes any coach would want. I believe that with time they will compose themselves and create a strong partnership just like that of Sserunkuma and Rama

So in the end coach knows what he is doing afterall, though it is not finished yet, the defence wasnt good enough. But then KCB and any other team playing against Gor always cause trouble. Three points in the bag, good and more will come from DAN and RAMA.

Some warning though for our dear supporters, there was a dirty scene on Jogoo road after the match, why stop other traffic and offend other Kenyans going about their business? Are these not some of the security assurances that the management were to put into place. Lets stop it, as an adult watch the match, sing you songs and go back to your house, let others also do their business freely.

great display from rama and dan in striking but the five players behind them at central midfield and central defence were extremely questionable, we need to go back to moses otieno and antohny akumu in central mid, then musa mohamed back at central defence

It was a great performance. Kudos to the entire team, coach & technical bench as a whole. Defense & mid-field need to gell up like the striking force is at the moment.

  • Congrats! The boys did us proud. It’s been a while since we jumped repeatedly at the stadium. Three times.

Our defense and midfield were just feeling the power and pressure of a well gelled team like KCB. Just like Thika United, most of the team has been together for a while. Those who watched Thika on Friday can bear witness to the fact that they played some of the best possession football this season. KCB also had a good midfield in the first leg which we won.

I feel it is time to trust Akumu with the midfield. The lad helped absorb pressure in Mumias and yesterday again he had to do the same for us. On both occasions he came in as a sub.

Let us continue to support and encourage the EC and Technical bench to for once retain our team for at least two seasons.

    Congrats.

  • Great attacking football which took off the pressure from the defense..however, we must build from the defence to midfield to attack. If we didnt take our chances yesterday, the outcome would have been totally different. But the coach and technical bench are up to something…and they’ll get there. Just the small matter of left back (we must get one like Wekesa but younger and faster so that he can make forays upfront and fall back in time); Anguyo (hez showing nerves but i cant understand why, hez been around for quite sometime, Musa can definitely do better here but there must be something keeping him out of the squad, probably discipline); central midfield, that’s where we lost creativity and KCB was so much better, may be coz we have a new midfield and they are yet to gel together. let’s give them time). Sserunkuma has made so much difference to this team going forward, what a great acquisition!! A lot of our former players would gave tried to score themselves on both occassions he created for Rama, this is what makes a great team. And Rama! We must start him everytime, as long as he is fit, the boy has an eye for goal. Chemelil at Afraha, 3 more points. The early pacesetters are running scared and looking over the shoulders. Let the games begin!!!

  • Kudos to the boyz.Though there is still some room for improvements in all departments, that i leave it to the able t/bench.
Two great assists by sserunkuma and three sublime finishes by rama salim.Moses odhiambo was also impressive.Special mentions for njuguna ‘pablo’,i think he covered the longest distance in that pitch than any other single player. All in all the WHOLE team played well
As fans we should also support our new players to settle down in the team.Oscar mbugua is a good player but stage fright can always take a toll on you when you are playing your first game for a team like kogallo.Lets support him and all the other new and young players to settle.
Finally am happy that coach logarusic is slowly prooving me wrong.I didnt’ like his way of doing things. To me he was more of a maverick than a coach,am glad that his very ways of doing things which i and some people didnt’like, are the very ways that are working.Kudos coach!
I also agree with @ja thur gi ji no7,our post match celebrations need not to interfere with peoples’ businessess and way of life.We can celebrate without inconveniencing other kenyans.Thank you everybody.

About our backline, the coach has already pointed our and he admits something will be done. We are not always in camp and let us leave the fielding to the technical bench. However, thanks still goes to the most High.

Defense is our greatest worry now. Jagoal Jerim has improved tremendously. Teddy Akumu, is proving to be a good match reader from the bench. I don’t mind him being brought in as a super sub like Lugarasic has done in the last 2 games. All the best against Chemelil. For God and my club Kogallo.

  • Hello peeps, from the 2 competitive matches, Gor has done so well and a I say congrats to the team, technical bench and the coach . . .. .Anguyo suffers from self inflicted pressure as was in MUmias and yesterday as well( during first half), however his combination with Mosoti, we have never conceded easily from a set piece and that’s why Logarusic goes for the pair as centre halves and I admit he’s spot on, . . .meaning, Musa and Owino will have their chances as well and so as fans let us not be agitated, coz he knows what is right for the team

2ndly, . . .the physio is doing some good job with the boys. . .can you remember those matches when the team could not play 2nd half? . . .and yesterday did you spot the difference?

Salim got the entire Mombasa up in celebrations as i received 5 different calls from my boys and girls from the Coastal town up in euphoria . . . . .

.I ask kindly of the office to tie down some of its players with four to five year contracts as opposed to 2 or 1 year, . . .. this is to avoid the players leaving perilously as we did to City Stars for Dan Serenkuma. . . .

lastly, this Sunday let us go to Nakuru to support these lads . . . .In Gor we find happiness.

Great game, great goals though with couple of glaring defensive lapses.Jerry on the other hand should start being a little more professional. One goal difference shouldn’t make you start wasting time feigning injuries and taking forever kicking the ball upfront. With such kind of behaviour, i doubt whether his career will go beyond the borders.

  • As we cwlwbrate GM let’s do it with some consideration of the feeling of other citizens. Was at the stadium and some of the songs/comments from our fans have nothing to do with football. Let’s leave politics out of it. At times our utterances on plotical issues cause more damage to the one we support than assist him/her. On harrasment of motorists in the pretext of celebrating, it confirms to some out there about sterotyping particular group of people so therefore let’s celebrate responsibly. The other issue are those coming to the matches totally under the influence should know that verbally harrasing the lady fans using all types of inuendos is no longer the coolest thing to do at a soccer stadium. They need to move with the times. It scares off some of them from attending our matches again. Basically let’s prove all our ‘accusers’ wrong

Let us develop the Espana system of playing six mid-fielders with no recognized (false 9). Dan and Rama Salim can be our Iniesta and Silva. With the hard part dealt with, Zdravko’s target will be to put the club in a position to challenge for the title in this second leg of 2012 KPL.

If the club can be able to contain a rowdy section of their supporters and provide full backing to the coach, the long term success of the club will not be in doubt.

As it stands, Gor are a work in progress and should be content as real TITLE contenders at best after around of the next five matches

I thought ourbplayers were gagged from excessive contact with the fourth estate. How I wish Jerry Ja-goal could avoid AMBANI’S prediction and predictions mind games at FUTAA.COM and let the players do the talking on pitch to disapprove his biased and wishful thinking.

As matter of fact the statistics from the last five KPL matches dictates otherwise.
With K’Ogalo leading the pack with 13 points, followed by City star 12 points, THIKA united 11 points, ULINZI 10 points, TUSKER 9 points , Sofapaka 8 and AFC 7 points. That is why the initial gap of 15 points between the leading pack of AFC,TUSKER and SOFAPAKA compared to ULINZI, THIKA and GM is only 8 points difference and guess what TUSKER has one game at hand having played 18.

I truly believe Okoth Jabilo’s “PAUL THE OCTOPUS” that come the round of which each team will have played close to 25 matches then this title will be wide open to the top 8 teams at the moment. Consistency in performance without blinking will carry the day.

This victory is worth all the celebrations. I recall early in the season when the ball could not just hit our opponents’ net. The frustration was so much on us that at one time Kassam Mwivangano adviced bloggers to ‘ask the ball why it refuses to go in’!

Creative Village is right: it is long since we jumped from our seats three times….yesterday we found ourselves jumping even higher each time as the goals got better and better.

One Benard Otieno commentating on the match in supersports was so elated that he made the whole world know that “Gor Mahia is the only team with a sofaset branch”!

Indeed this victory is so priceless! Look who is here: The great Pundit has resurfaced in style . Pod Antie has actually proved that he is still very much around while Albert Kosero – Sofaset Branch – Kampala announces his arrival in his characteristic astute style and with so much finality. Great to have you around, gentlemen.

Some food for thought to our sponsors: how much could you have made in sales of Tuzo products had you seized the occassion and gave out some cash incentives to the team for a job well done? Be serious you guys. The ink has not dried since Creative Village asked Tuzo to sponsor from the front. Some team in the same KPL only flukes a 1-0 win and is rewarded with KES 180,000. for the win by its sponsor while ours are given…. a glass of Tuzo? Tuzo try to imagine how much profit you could have made had you rewarded the players with some KES 360,000. after each of those two second leg wins: definitely tenfold; what with the euforia coupled with the huge fanbase.

  • As we celebrate let’s look at the ‘small’ things which give us a bad name. Read @Oyugi’s @36 comment and we should be at the fore front of asking our fans to respect the members of the public as we go about our celebrations. As a GM fan I have been told some very unfluttering words from those who don’t like GM as well as those who don’t care about football about our fans behaviour. As usual I know some people will cast aspirations on my comments but it’s time we look at the bigger ‘picture’. Some of these behaviours have ramifications which go beyond football. Have one time been ‘harassed’ by some fans of a rival club and I didn’t enjoy it at all. So let’s celebrate as much as we want but let’s not infringe on other people’s freedom. Apart from ethnic and political stereotyping it also scares off sponsors as much as they would like to associate with the club.

I would like my fellow people to note few issues here:

    1. Let us love all peolple in this country regardless of where they come from. If we go tribal and even mention names then we are not going right. Gor now is among the top teams with people from all over the boundaries and different countries and they are doing us proud.

    2. Let us respect other people we meet when we are going to the stadium or after leaving the stadium. Stop harassment and insults as stated by @43 jathurgiji.

    3. Let us respect people’s property and stop public vandalism.

    4. Stop celebrating with risks as if you may not live tomorrow ie stop hanging on vehicles when you are drunk.

    5. Accept people’s opinions with positivity and not negative corrections.

    6. Lastly, it has a huge impact on our leadership, be it at work or for the country’s top job.

Thanks @Oyugi for telling our dear @Ogango how the world and the country has really changed. GM is no longer the tribal club it was years ago. Things have changed and despite the club drawing the majority fans from the lakeside we cannot afford to ignore those from the other parts of the country. In fact that diversity is what will make it a global brand and attract sponsors. Who will be the way sponsor a village club? So as enlightened fans let’s take it upon ourselves to ‘educate’ some of our fans since their behaviour has a big negative effect on negative the perception somebody somewhere is trying to erase

Onto the pitch, and I have to express my sincere admiration to the way our front three of Odhis, Dan and Rama have acquinted themselves to the NEW SYSTEM- the ESPANA FALSE 9. Just as for the original INVENTORS- ESPANA- this system requires absolute adherence to hard work (CLOSING DOWN) by the front SIX and not three or four as witnessed during our match against KCB. TEDDY, NICHOLAS AUMA, MOSES OTIENO, OSCAR MBUGUA, PABLO and ALI ABONDO are all very capable footballers who can adapt to this system. I give the coach FULL marks for introducing a stronger work-ethic in the players. He is very brave to try the ESPANA system in our club. You could see him encouraging the players to work for each other during our last match. For now, Teddy is our best bet for the Sergio Bascquet no (6). He can start build-up play from the back and he stays closer to the defenders and hence offers better protection to our defence which on the CURRENT FORM is SUSPECT. The coach has a huge responsibility of building a new combination in our defence. To me,Musa and David Owino combination appear stronger than the Anguyo Musoti combination. It is my belief that once this is sorted out: ( Defence) we can begin to dream of having a strong run in the Championship.
