Gor Mahia stay hopeful

From Daily Nation

Gor Mahia’s Cameroonian coach Annaba Awono refused to accept defeat in the wake of the 3-0 fall to hosts Ferroviaro de Maputo of Mozambique in the first leg clash of the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday.

Gor Mahia had hoped to return to Nairobi at least with a draw from Maputo but ended up soaking up three goals leaving them with a mountain to climb in the second leg game in three weeks’ time in Nairobi.

score.

It could have been worse for the Kenyans at the 40th minute but captain Jerim Onyango dived the right side to save a penalty.

But the Mozambican side went two up at the hour mark through Nzili and three up at the death courtesy of another Nzili goal.

Gor’s tough tackling midfielder Collins Okoth, who had been booked in the first half, was red-carded with a minute of play remaining after a second bookable offence.

But on Sunday, Awono said he would rectify the few mistakes he noticed in defence and midfield.

He also hopes his injured aces – Hugo Nzangu, George Midenyo and Dimonde Selenga – will all be fit for the return leg. “I hope to have a full squad in the return leg. We are down but not out,’’ he said.

Gor Mahia returned back on Sunday afternoon.

As I type away this comment, I am at Kajiado resident magistrate court where I am facing charges of assault and stealing according to the charge sheet. However I am not detered by the circumstances of the moment. I look forward to face my accusers and God wiilling clear my name.

Kajiado and court matters aside , I am also hopeful that our great K’Ogalo will rectify it’s mistake and fight hard for a comeback. Like my accusers whom Iam meeting them face to face today, I wish GM approach the next game with the same zeal and courage.

Coach AA knows the daunting task ahead. Can he rise to the occassion ? Food for though.
I am confident and faithful that in the end, both K’Ogalo and I will triumph.

WE R DOOMED IF WE CANT SCORE

1A 3-0 loss is unacceptable but3-1 wld ave given us the crucial away goal thus with a 2-0 win we wld qualify instead of the 4-0margin now needed
2 Locally we always blame our inability to score on defensive play by other teams.Wen a big club like GM cant score even 1 goal againt 3 it shows the low calibre of our attacking m/fielders n strikers n coaching in this area.In CECAFA even Djibouti scored a goal or two wen being whipped.WE NEED HELP IN THIS AREA that is a big flop

Just but a thought, if someone who trained the team( Pro and Awilo) are left out of the convoy to maputo, what would you expect? I fail to understand why a trainer would be left out and then the so kold officials hijack the team to Maputo! please please, unless the row in the Gor tech bench and other matters are settled, hatuendi mahali! It is the trainer who knows the ability and strength of each player and for the coach is to give the technical side of it…..

On attack play i recommend the EC brings in a proven foreign expert 2 assist our bench 4 the next 3 months
3 GELING MYTH-Most GM players n coaches ave bin around 4 a while n nid only 3 months nt 3 years to produce results if its not happening then something is wrong with maybe calibre, commitment
4.7officials travelled for 18players but we did not send a coach to spy on our opponents to know their tactics

How do you refuse to accept defeat after conceding 3 goals without reply. “We” are turning out to be all talk and no meaningful action. Why don’t “we” honourably accept that we are not sure of the way forward? And then we call it “only few mistakes”! Ridiculous.

The team was overwhelmed by the unexpected awesome might of their opponents, hence the panic and shambolic defending right from kick off and the man they relied on to advice on change of approach to the game could not come up with an idea throughout the entire 90 minutes. Where will ideas come from this time round?

  • Guys why do we think that some things can only happen t other teams and not us. Are we saying that GM cannot be beaten 3-0 or beat another team 3-0? If you look for excuses in every sceanrio you will get a thousand and one. Let’s dustourselves up correct our mistakes and carry on. Not sure that if Awilo and Pro were in Maputo we would have won. If we are not carefull we will rub the feeling of bad losers to the players and tech team. As we jubilate when we win we should not forget that losing is part of the game. At this point we should be asking ourselves what we can do to make the team wipe out the deficit and not finger pointing. Football being what it is I believe we can make it.

@Dan keep dreaming. A technical team that bows to pressure from its fans will never go far in footabll. In Gor all fans are coaches. They know who should be fielded, who should be recruited, who should coach the team, who his assistants should be, who is to substituted, what the sponsor should do and not do etc. The list is long. The moment we shall appreciate being patient followers of Kogallo, that is the day we shall start realising meaningful results. Gor is not Sofapaka, therefore bwana Dan dont imagine that what Sofapaka did can be done by Gor as well. Jokes aside, the quality of football in Gor at the moment is too low. No class. That is why I can confidently say that, our boys are not going anywhwere. I will not be suprised if Ferraviaro beat us 1 nil here. Watch this space. I have watched Gor play against Tusker and Thika United. The quality of play leaves alot to be desired. Tuko tu mbali sana. Na hiyo ndiyo ukweli wa mambo! For God and my club Kogallo

I agree more with Kosero.. i only disagree with the going no where in the future bit.

Why are we taking things too far? These guys will be here in two weeks to square it out with GM, that is a chance and football remains what it is. A GAME.

Its terrible and bad that fans are taking up responsibility that’s not theirs only to work up themselves so much when their insinuations back fire terribly in their face! Are we not the people who shouted relentlessly for over board recruitment? Are we not the same people who shout players names instead of urging them on and sometimes even issue ultimatums to the tech bench to substitute them? Are we not the same same people who elected the officials we are now saying hijacked the plane in place of tech bench members? This is GM for you!

Now we want and may be will draft the line up and if not implemented ..the coach may have to GO if results are unfavorable! That’s how GM is ‘Built’.

I remain optimistic that we will do well. True though to say that a lot of people have quietly wondered how we do our subs but that’s in another desk.

As bloggers we must be allowed to come up with our lineups, teams and even coaching methods. There is nothing wrong with that. We must also be allowed to say Awono must go! After all we are just blogging.

The Maputo tragedy has only one explanation:-
Pamzo said last week that FKF seriously needs to consider changing its calendar. All continental matches begin when other African leagues are on the half way mark and the Kenyan league is only a game from start. New coach, new players, low levels of fitness, poor coordination, injuries, gambling with positions etc. This are issues that occur at the start of the season. We will always complain but this is the reason Kogalo and Tusker are going nowhere.

Like Kosero says and calls it bitter truth. Kogalo’s game so far is really poor. AA please do something.

They have the talent but that talent has not been exploited and natured to get the best out of every player. The Coaches should look at the attributes of each and every player, analyse every individual case and see how they can be developed into stars. Otherwise we still have moutains to climb.

GOR MAHIA K’OGALO HAS NO ROOM FOR “ROHO MTAKA VYOTE”

STOP CRYING LIKE BABIES, IF YOU ARE FED UP JUST LEAVE US A LONE TO BITE THE BULLETS AS YOU RETREAT BACK TO WHERE YOU HAD HIBERNATED THREE YEARS AGO.

THANK YOU GOR MAHIA FOR YOUR WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE

I decided to take a break and read through the opinions that most bloggers have been posting regarding our “BELOVED” club and then internalize deeply what they aspired for the club to achieve in season 2102.

Let me take this opportunity first and foremost to thank @Albert Kosero for being candid and bold enough while we were exchanging notes after our KPL match against THIKA united to state that “GM WAS NOT A CONTINENTAL OUTFIT BUT RATHER A KPL 2012 TITLE CONTENDER” . That is what i refer to as “GENUINE” GM supporters and i respect his take as much as i may refute his claim. His concern is simply based on the way we blog after winning a match and then make a U-TURN when result do not reflect our “OVER-ZEALOUS” expectation.

Based on the above observation and having sieved through the recent archives on this blog from the very common bloggers; i hereby feel proud to stand with our boys and the technical bench at this very trying moment in there continental soccer experiences. I also wish to salute the following comrades as being the voice of reasons that can propel this club to next level with there constructive comments namely:

    1. pareyio ole lelerue 2. Dan 3. Arrumtiddi

For the remaining lot who are “faint-hearted” and can not just take there time to explore the circumstances under which we performed very good to just allow 3 goals after 90 minutes in MAPUTO and of which we have another 90 minutes in NAIROBI MY ONLY ADVICE TO YOU “PESSIMISTIC-MINDED” supporters is to keep quite and let do the talking on the field come return match.

As a matter of fact you fellows who always try to dictate to bloggers why was BLA…!!! ..BLA..!!.. BLA.. !!..and why not..NYEF…!!!..NYEF..!!! ….NYEF..!!! “Where were you when GM was recruiting the would be coaches? And if you have the CV’s why waste your time with your unsubstantiated theories and references on this blog?

LEAVE GM A LONE IF YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED PLEASE!!!.. JUST LEAVE GM ALONE..!!! AND WE SHALL DIE WITH GM UNTIL THE LAST WHISTLE IN NAIROBI COME RETURN LEG.

And when result will favor us because i know for sure it will, then i expect you guys to swallow your words and shut up. THE DOUBTING THOMASES OF THE GREEN ARMY BE INFORMED THAT GM HAS NO ROOM FOR COWARDS LIKE YOU GUYS.

BELOW IS MY PLEDGE TO SUPPORT GM TO ADVANCE TO ROUND 2.
Am obliged to support and instill fear on our opponents the same as way they did to GM and the opponents will be intimidated to the extent that they will also crack and suffer from “Stage fright” and who knows GOD being on our side we shall punish them with a qualifying win to the next round.

In fact i wonder where you guys were when we used to struggle with a paltry 300 fan GM matches just a few years ago. Now when things have started happening you have streamed back with your EGO and ever demanding attitude of “MTAKA VYOTE UKOSA VYOTE” I urge those who are not satisfied with the result to “JUST QUIT HONORABLY AND LEAVE US A LONE TO STOMACH THE GOOD RESULT”. One person is even inquiring where the GM SG is as if he was in Maputo. Why not ask R.Ngala who led the delegation. “SIASA MBAYA MPIRA MBOVU”

getting a 3-0 whipping is really upsetting. let the coach and his team get their footing. expecting to progress far into the caf cup while we cannot beat teams like sony and ‘brewa’ is expecting to much. bloggers are not coaches. let awono carry his laggage coz that’s what he applied for, time will vindicate wether he knows what he was doing. gor has good players but the technical approach is yet to take off. the best place to see this is the current 2012 league. 1 NIL scores is enough to tell us that some technics and attitudes need to change. ’87 was done by a high scoring gor in that even zamalek was not a team to threaten gor. but when u survive against coast united and pretty much against the rest of the teams…it’s like expecting harambee stars to reach the quarters of the world cup while they cannot even beat the east african counterparts. in the game against breweries on the supersport cup, it was pretty clear that these guys were going nowhere. gor should get its technical and attitude approach right… the players are there. the zambian case can attest to this.

@ Oduor12 in post 14 one thing that Makamu, Bassanga, Jua Kali, Mzee Siang’a and ZD have in common apart from being Gor Mahia legends is the manner with which we fans hounded them out (without any dignity at all) and personally I agitated for ‘Zico out’.

We effectively burnt bridges behind us and any talk of Makamu or Bassanga sitting on the bench briefly should be regarded as wishful thinking. However, that’s your input and I respect it.

Cool down @19 Ogango Trailer. You are understandably worked up; but you see you are only worked up by the descenting views in this blog (and like all of us, the 3-0 loss in Maputo). I want to believe that you would not be so worked up if the blogs were supportive of your views. What happened to all the talk about freedom of expression that you men of the press clamoured for so much?

This forum is meant for bloggers to ventilate their views on various issues touching on football and specifically with a bias on Gor Mahia and the GM EC is under no obligation to implement the myriad of ideas that are belched out here. Let us treat all that we contribute here as hot air and continue blogging.

Life would be very boring if we were to be surrounded with ‘yes men’. Please appreciate that we are all different hence may not always see issues from the same perspective. Let us not agree on this one but tomorrow am sure we will read from the same script. On the same note may I encourage Albert Kosero (Sofaset Branch Kampala) to stay put and continue blogging with extra zeal. It is a free world.

  • my assesment lays the blame squarely on the the feet of EC and the technical bench i support my suggestions with these comments
    1. the bench did little home work on the team but the team did research on our team from clips they got from supersports
    2. the team plays poorly on low altitude who did this research that we train in nairobi whole week and travel to play the next day very poor scientific research in deed
    3. the EC was in office long before but just had last minute reach for money from politicians instead of having even an empesa number to enable real stake holders contribute to the teams kitty george bwana you are so disapointing in this area i feel totally let down by you and surely hold you responsible i wish you could come out and respond to this issues
    4. the composition of the team on match day was really untactical we went for midfilders instead of packing defence having jerry in goal contributed to this down fall for his poor communication with defence always costs kogallo dispite his indidvidual brilliance which is also too occassional
5.poor signings of players too many yet too average we needed to stick to developmental plan other than going fot tusker rejects too painful for a kogalo fan to take
    6. AA must read his scripts again if not failure glares in his eyes we need to have a compact team going forward
    7. putting too much burden on okoth leads him to indidplince i believe he got carded fighting for the team this what happened to suarez at liverpool too much resposiblity yet no support moses odhiambo loses too many balls this put pressure on collins to tackle the result cards why not pair teddy with collins so that collins roams and teddy does the sweeping and vice versa if not we can easily overturn the result i believe the troupes just needs parading we should start adverting this match now in the local press to rally the soldiers and raise revenue EC do somthing

But, honourable fan, its just that some of us belong to the other side of spiritual belief..Kindly bear with us regarding the research insistence.

Let me register again my pessimism that K’ogalo will advance to the second round..i repeat K’ogalo will advance to the second round. Let someone remind all of this!Reasons-:

    1. Kevin Omondi, Lavasta and Midenyo will have recovered from injuries.
    2. I will be there to cheer the team to victory..not to call players names.
3.The tech bench have now seen their mistakes.
    4. We now know the kind of team we are up against.
    5. The tech bench will have settled on how,who and when to field.

There’s no doubting GM will triumph.

Though we are downcast, this is football and there is always winner and loser. Sadly though most of our comments appear to ignore the spate of injuries that befell the team prior to this game. I am sure the coach’s initial plan was seriously affected. However this is now behind and we need to look forward to the return leg, and why not, I cannot rule out a 4-0 win for Kogalo!! Lets pray and pray and pray for the boys.Nothing is impossible and as for the local league, wacha tu.

As for my brother Kosero, someone has pointed out hereabove that you are ZD himself, for howelse would one be so pessemistic and hopeless. @ Post 23 arrumtiddi that is exactly what i meant by saying “proper research”, Did you how many clear chances the slum boys wasted?.

@ arrumtiddi do you know why entire ZAMBIAN delegation composed of the technical and playing unit, former president “KK”, sitting President, vice President and Kalusha Bwalya visited the Plane Crash Site in GABON and what they did was a “Proper Research” before playing Ivory coast in the AFCON finals and it WORKED!!!.

Why on earth did DROGBA sent the winning penalty the rugby way and how comes JERRY saved the penalty that will keep on this match. Its not yet over guys; so let those celebrating and bragging to hold there horses as for now.

Do you know that the ZAMBIAN tactician never changed his “casually designed” clothing from day one of the tournament until the final day when his team lifted the cup.” It was an easier way of relieving pressure from his boys and make the tournament look ordinary as properly advised by the source of research.

And this is my take @arrumtiddi. GOR played in front of 45000 capacity crowd in Maputo and they treated the match very casual and if am not wrong i can guess they were in there already declared “Bad -Omen” , disgusting long sleeve “BLUE-TUZO” regalia.

In the return match let us fill up the stadium as early as 1.30 pm , Let us come in large numbers knowing very well that the first 15 minutes of committed support will bear fruits for at least two goal and do not forget to carry along the FIRE-WORKS, VUVUZUELA ,THE GREEN&WHITE FLAG and sing praises for “MAHIA” since GOR has done his assignment in MAPUTO. LET “MAHIA” do the talking in the field and “JO-NDHIWA” will control the rest of the occasion remotely as “MAHONO STAGES HIS COME BACK FROM BEHIND”.

And then let us compare notes with the likes of Jackowili and Kosero of this blog who we have written us off. Am really pissed off with there lack of true “Patriotism” at the hour of need apart from too much simplistic “ado and rhetoric “that will take us no where in 2012.

  • A. KOSERO: BETTER HAVE HIM INSIDE THE TENT PISSING OUT THAT HAVE IN OUT PISSING IN

These were the famous words of United States former president, G.W. Bush commenting on on of his erstwhile chief of staff. This evening a lot of guns are trained on comrade A. Kosero of Kampala Branch for his candid assesment on the general preparedness of his great club, K’ogalo for this year’s caf confederation cup.

I partly share his views. First, K’Ogalo is now a relatively young side with an average age of 23. We can as well say, it’s a team of the future. In as much as you want to dismiss coach ZD, i personally give him credit for deliberately crafting a team of the future. Therefore most of these boys who played at Maputo’s Zimpeto stadium are still green on this high level competition. Infact the flight, stadium and even their oppponents can intimidate them.

The boys, I also believe lacked the mental strenghth to withstand the pressure of the game. When they were beaten in the first half and denied penalties, the boys simply resigned to fate. Others like Collins Okoth lost their cool. This I where the role of the captain cme in handy. Take for example the flayombant Ghanian, Dede Ayew. The player is always seen urging his teamates to soldier on. This is kind of inspiration we need from our captain.

Finally, i remain optimistic that we shall turn the tables during the return leg here in Nairobi. I get my solace from Sofapaka. They did the imaginable by beating a north African side to advance to next round of caf championship. This is also possible with K’ogalo. • this @ kosero is too negative i normally don’t pick up altacation with fellow bloggers but if you become too critical you miss the opportunity to be prudent and radiant in your assessment and reading of situation the problem ailing anything in kenya if failure to be accountable with such rotten society how do you expect even kogallo to excel here look at our EC doing their work in such a crude manner so direct your criticism to th e correct people the current crop of talent is not that good enough we all have to appreciate that look at kimani who went to Germany for trial s in the 5th tier competition but here he was one of the best players

Let us just be Frank. Even if the likes of Hugo,Demonde, Lavasta,Midenyo etc are lined up in the return leg,we will still fall to Ferroviaro. The truth is that we shoud use the return leg to get a feel of continental standards vis avis our standard.
