Gor Mahia still has no U19 team
The Kenya Premier League Under 19 tournament is set to kick off on August 10, which is about two and half weeks away. According to futaa.com, Gor Mahia have not assembled a team yet.
Assistant coach Bobby Ogolla told the blog ; “We don’t have a team yet, still trying to put it up. We must participate in the tournament.
The inaugural KPL U19 tournament was held in 2011. It was won by Thika United, which is the only team in the league that has any semblance of youth development. The tournament was not held in 2012.
Tusker have been in talks with talent hub FISA academy to represent them in the tournament. KCB announced that they will be holding trials.
Upper Hill school which is a UNICEF talent development center recently won the Metropolitan schools football games. Back in February, Gor Mahia announced a partnership with Upper Hill in which several players from the school would be attached to Gor Mahia.
gor shud stop trying to bite more than it can chew and also stop making grand roadside announcements which they know well will flop. the idea for a U19 is good but gor lucks the financial muscle and more importantly a good plan to do this. gor is reacting to a tournament to create a U19 side. where will these players suddenly come from or is it simply about picking boys to wear gor shirts and then claiming gor has an u19 side. gor should instead come up with an football academy or liaise with one as it’s feeder side. this is better than having an arrangement with a school. in short gor can have a u19 side but it needs a good plan and it needs at least 5yrs. at the end of the day teenagers with no football discipline will wear gor jerseys just so that it is seen that gor participated, beating the noble idea of what u19 teams are all about.
in my opinion,Gor should have 2 youthful teams to serve as a feeder to the main team.An under 19 and under 15 side!
We have very many academies in kenya nurturing young talent. How about we scout for this junior talents from these academies and form a formidable junior team?
Its a noble course that can attract sponsors in itself and inject money into the game. The famed Beckham,Scoles,Giggs etc blossomed from these junior teams. That is the model we should seek to emulate if we hope to prosper. The positive effects of this system if well managed will surely trickle down to Harambee stars!!!!
You always start from somewhere don’t you? and the time is now create the team and keep it don’t be negative at least if you are negative keep it to your self don’t kill morale for others.
Ati we don’t have under 19’s ????? Here is my one cent suggestion : Mobilise the best players from the Airtel secondary school competition and mould them into Gor Mahia youth team . SIMPLE BUT VERY EFFECTIVE STRATEGY. OVER TO YOU EC !!!!!!
The issue here is simple. Gor can partner with FISA, JMJ Academy , Upper Hill or any other school or youth team and they represent Gor. What more do we want as of now? The rest of the issues can be left to the future when we have candidates looking for votes and promising us a youth team amongst others. Yet we don’t even have a medical scheme for the senior players.
For our info most , if not all, of the teams don’t have youth teams but have affiliated clubs. For Upper Hill they will be attending the National schools tourney and might not make it to represent Gor thought I would have prefered them.
Another option 1 – Mobilise youth from the airtel national competition and mould them into Gor Mahia youth team
Option 2 – Partner with Airtel football competition, identify top talent and attach them to gor mahia youth team
Option 3- start a national primary football competition, secondary football competition , identify top talent in each category and mould them into gor mahia youth team.
Option 4- if you can do 1 ,2 or 3 or even all, a talent academy or a foreign football club can facilitate the rest…
good global example – ajax football club, netherlands
Jakoyo i think your ideas are good infact you have several options which is good but i think Gor Mahia as a club must initiate what they want and be seen to be working before some one else like ajax fc comes in.
Now cant kogalo create it’s own academy?
coz all big teams go that way.If Gor cant then why?
Admin: You’ve said it all before, kindly and simply re-run your article of 6/12/2011, “TIME TO TAKE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT SERIOUSLY”
REMEMBER WUONPAP, amigo where did you disappear to, with this article your advice/pleas for the “executive community” to set up a youth system has surely come to pass.
