Gor Mahia still negotiating with Brookside dairies

Tusker Premier League champions Gor Mahia have started negotiations with milk processing firm Brookside over a new sponsorship deal.

Brookside, through its Tuzo brand, has been Gor’s shirt sponsors for the last three years. The Sh38 million two-year deal signed in March 2011 and which was extended in March last year to the tune of Sh37m for a season expires end of this month.

Gor secretary general Chris Omondi told Sunday Nation Sport that Brookside has never made it official that it would not renew the sponsorship deal.

“What you have been reading in the local media is speculation and falsehoods. They (Tuzo) have never put it in writing that they will not partner us when the current deal expires,” said Omondi.

“In fact we are meeting them next week and we hope to reach a common ground regarding a new and better deal.” Omondi said Gor’s negotiating team will push for a better deal as the current one was rigid not flexible.

“The previous contract was a little bit restrictive and we want them to open up. If they don’t and a better deal comes up, they will have an alternative of being co-sponsors,” he said.

Gor is understood to be in talks with a host of companies but Omondi denied that they are negotiating with Keroche Breweries, saying Gor fans should not panic as measures are in place to take care of players’ welfare.

Gor have also been linked to Chase Bank, who are said to be lining up a Sh15 million deal worth of insurance cover for the club.

Gor Mahia to pocket revenue from double header

Gor Mahia will pocket all ticket revenue from Sunday’s double header scheduled for City Stadium.

KCB will play host to former league champions Tusker in an early kick-off match (2pm) before K’Ogalo cross swords with leaders Western Stima in the second match at 4:15pm.

According to club Secretary General, Chris Omondi, there will be no sharing of match revenue with KCB following an agreement in principle between the two clubs in a meeting held on Thursday .

“We agreed with KCB that Gor Mahia takes care of all the match-related costs including security and safety charges and that the bankers will only use the ground to host their match. They will lay no claim on Sunday’s match revenue,” Omondi told the club’s website.

Main stand tickets retail at Sh 500 with terraces tickets going for Sh 200.

  • As put by Pod Antie, a well run Sacco is more sustainable, stable & flexible. I feel fans should take the iniative on this. The Sacco can b given sole merchanzing rights etc etc.
    A 5,000 member sacco with each member contributing 1K/month means a revenue base of 5M/month 4 GM=60M/YEAR
Or let DTM/AFB introduce a credit card 4 season tickets. Surely swiping a card is faster than manual ticket sales.
FInally Citi urgently need refurbishment of terrace stands(revenue is lost) & playing surface.

  • B4 -ve intrepreters jump in let me clarify that am not in any way against sponsorship. If fact it should go hand in hand with the membership/sacco.
You will not find many companies willing & ABLE 2 commit 30M/year 2 a club.
    Can Keroche afford it?
Unless Tuzo want us 2 change from our grass green 2 blue I don’t see what rigidity there is.
Accountability, transparency & winning trophies r all sponsors & fans demand. Hooliganism is the other issue & buck stops with EC. Ensure ARRESTS & PROSECUTION.

@oduor12, the buck stops with the fans not the EC alone. It is you and me to ensure we stop or discourage all forms of thuggery and bhangi smoking. We sit next to these bad elements and as fans we have huge responsibility to hand them over to police or club administration.

    Winning start for U19 side.
Gor Mahia U19 youth team marked their debut in the Nairobi County League with a winning start on Saturday afternoon at Dandora Stadium.

Left fullback Hajj Achkobe’s strike in the 32nd minute of the match was all the three weeks old Coach Maurice Onyango led youngsters needed to see off a more experienced Makongeni Youth side and mark their entry into the league.

Onyango’s charges started off brightly and controlled the match through to the end. The youngsters led by skipper Elias Otieno displayed an array of skills and talent much to the pleasure of the sizeable crowd at the stadium.

Gor Mahia U19 created a host of chances early in the second half but could not find the cutting edge. Hajj Achkobe twice came close with powerful left footed strikes that flew just wide of the right upright before Ugandan winger Emmanuel Olinga tested the opponent’s goalkeeper from the edge of the box.

Joseph Waruinge was fantastic on the ball going forward as Teddy Osok and Amos Nondi took control of the midfield battle for supremacy.

When the goal finally came, Achkobe had made a surging run forward and Olinga set him up with a fantastic lay-off at the edge of the box and he stroke it low into the bottom left corner. In the build-up, Waruinge dribbled his way to the left by-line and delivered a cut back cross that the opposing defenders only cleared up to Olinga.

The opponents only came close twice in the first half. A low hard cross from the right wing missed the last sliding connection to the far post to roll out of play. Then a through pass set up a race between goalkeeper Vincent Odhiambo and the opposing hit man, but the custodian was fast on the ball.

The second half was more of one way traffic affair as the youngsters took much control of the game. Coach Maurice Onyango pumped in more energy and intent into the game seeking to extend the lead. Cliff Nyakeya had come on for Elvis Opiyo midway through the first half and the second session saw Mohammed Noor replaced by Cornelius Owinyo.

Owinyo had two great chances on goal but a defensive commitment saw his first attempt cleared off the line before the Makongeni Youth custodian saved from a one-on-one in the match’s last action.

    The team:

Starting XI: 1. Vincent Odhiambo -GK, 2. Kevin Otieno, 3. Hajj Achkobe, 8. Nyarombe Kevin, 5. Elias Otieno -Cpt, 18. Teddy Osok, 6. Elvis Opiyo, 19. Amos Nondi, 9. Emmanuel Olinga, 21. Joseph Waruinge 10. Mohammed Noor

Substitutes: 16 Timothy Ngugi –GK, 13. Cornelius Owinyo, 15. Nelson Mandela, 25. Evans Mieno, 7. Cliff Nyakeya, 11. Paul Kimanzi.

    Coach: Maurice Onyango.

    Asst. Coach: Zablon Otieno.

    Team Manager – Rashid Ogwayo.

  • You can’t stop them as Mwakio or Oduor12 alone. These guys operate in big groups. They even gate crash into the stadium. If those with bhangi & alcohol are arrested AT THE ENTRANCE then we’ve made a big step towards eradicating sensless hooliganism.
HOW DOES ONE ENTER WITH A 750ML BOTTLE OF BLUE MOON VODKA / HOW DO U REASON WITH SOMEONE/GROUP WHO’VE SNORTED BHANG 4 90MINS.

@ Mwakio, thanks for the feed.I am away on assignment in Asia.It is always great to get these updates about my beloved club whether it is about the U-19 or the senior team.I have read a comment by Gor SG and I am interested on the part where he says that Tuzo may well be co-sponsors if they(Tuzo)do not improve their terms of Sponsorship.Does that this mean there are other options if Tuzo doesn’t play ball?Update please?Did the Chase bank deal go through?
