Gor Mahia take on Tusker

Having dispatched Ulinzi stars in the opening round of the KPL Top 8 tournament, Gor Mahia next face Tusker FC in an Wednesday evening match at Nyayo stadium. Gor Mahia are hoping to retain this trophy which they won last year by beating Ulinzi Stars 2-0 in the final. Meanwhile Tusker will be seeking to avenge the loss they suffered to Kogalo in the Supercup match earlier this year.

On the positive side, Gor Mahia seem to have recovered their scoring touch. And for 45 minutes on Saturday, they seemed to have regained the imperious form that took them from relegation candidates at the beginning of last season to second place. However the last 45 minutes of the Muhoroni match were dismal. Coach Logarusic admitted as much. “We did not play well in the second half against Muhoroni. Our current level isn’t good it and we have to improve against Tusker. They are a good side and we have a lot of respect for them,” Logarusic told the Nation.

Warmup for the Mashemeji derby

Gor mahia may use this match to warm up for the crucial weekend encounter against arch rivals AFC leopards. However Logarusic has indicated that his focus will be on the Tusker match. “We face Tusker before Leopards and my philosophy has always been to take a game at a time and therefore our total focus is on how to beat the reigning Kenyan Premier League champions,” Logarusic told supersport.com.

Alternatively, Logarusic may prudently decide to rest key players ahead of the derby and give opportunities to players like Gathu “Gaucho”, Ivo Mapunda, David Otieno, Moses Otieno and Abbey Natty.

Former team-mate

Gor Mahia will have to contend with former club player Collins Okoth who last year shocked fans by announcing his retiremengt from football after being sidelined by Sofapaka. “Gattuso” has settled well at Tusker and expresses no regrets about leaving Gor Mahia.

“Compared to Gor Mahia the pressure at Tusker is on the pitch and this is good because it pushes one to become better. At Gor, the pressure was mostly coming from the fans and could be destructive to one’s career.

“I am glad I left Gor when I did and it had nothing to do with indiscipline as some claimed,” he said.

  • ALL THE BEST BOYS!

With only hours remaining to another mouth watering Top 8 knockout clash against Tusker, i wish to take this earliest opportunity to wish our boys all the best.

Nyayo national stadium, just like many other stadia around the country has brought a mix of fortunes. Tonight, i hope K’Ogalo is psyched and raring to defend the lucrative cup by defeating Tusker FC by two goals to naught.

I urge our supporters to turn up in large numbers to the boys to victory. Once again, exercise restraint whenever the cente referee makes decisions that may not favor you because there are many other avenues to challenge his decisions. Let our goal this season be violent free. This is possible and it’s start with you. Let’s compare notes after the game.

    Adios Amingos!

no.1 and 2 above…let us not get fooled.pressure from fans is what has made some of the top players get to where they are.soccer is a spectator sport and as such teams like Gor and Afc thrive on that.what joy is there playing in-front of 10 fans as compared to thousands of fans in a stadium?Let the likes of tusker and sofa and other pretenders come watch the Sunday derby and see what kind of carnival atmosphere the fans of Gor and Afc create!!players without ambition are the ones who want to play without pressure!!!!

Come-baby-come. We will be under pressure compared to Tusker since we are the defending champions for this trophy but I am confident we will carry the day.

  • Have seen the line-up and now it’s time for the fringe players to show that we can count on them. All the best.

On another note, Sir Alex is leaving Man U and i think we can all look up to him for an example of how to build a great club and not just a team.

    See you all at Nyayo.

    All the best K’ogallo.

But allow me to claim that we do not have fringe players, all the guys meant for the green jersey are meant for big things and occasions.

Whoever is given a chance anytime any day must be prepared to give not just his best but his all.
    I can’t wait for 7.00 O ‘clock.

Best line up in recent times I dare say. And there is nothing like fringe players here. All these are pretty first team material, with the exception of the rather odd position for Anguyo. Lets go boys you will make it. Mapunda, everybody seem to have copied your white towel, perhaps you could change it to red, real danger for them.
