Gor Mahia to launch funds drive

Without a sponsor, Gor Mahia are now contemplating rolling out a membership recruitment drive to raise funds.
The club is yet to get another sponsor after their two-year, Sh37 million deal with Brookside expired on March 31.
The league champions have been making efforts to get a new shirt sponsor but without success, club insiders say.
In an interview with Daily Nation Sport on Wednesday, organising secretary David Kiilo said the National Executive Committee is planning a meeting soon, to map out modalities for a massive membership recruitment. The club is targeting at least one million members who will be expected to pay Sh100 each. Even with that, Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier says they are still shopping for a sponsor.
Last week, Gor treasurer Kennedy Otieno noted that the club was set to raise a lot of money from the recruitment drive and urged club supporters to embrace the project.
“We have a lot of goodwill and if we can attract the one million fans we are targeting within the first year, then our financial challenges can be a thing of the past,” Otieno said.
On the other hand, Kiilo admitted that the financial situation at the club is dire, especially after an earlier anticipated deal with a cement manufacturing firm failed to materialise.
“Right now, the state of affairs is bad and we are not sure how we will navigate through,” Kiilo lamented.
Gor’s monthly wage bill stands at Sh2.7 million besides the weekly winning bonus pay-out of Sh146,000.
In addition, players part with Sh35,000 weekly on training allowances ground charges, and a further Sh20,000 paid to Nairobi County government whenever they use the City Stadium for their home matches.
The club will this year receive about Sh7 million from the Kenyan Premier League in grants and prize money for winning the league.
I have a big big concern!! Will I be called to participate in a fund only for someone in EC to pocket the money. Treasure Kennedy, can you tell us what has been done about the open looting of Gor’s funds. Has someone read last year’s financials where there was a huge gap on the use of funds? I really wanna know what the rest think!!
LET IT BE DONE AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE.THERE ARE VERY MANY GOR MAHIA FANS WHO HAVE THE TEAM IN HEART.WE DONT WANT TO HAVE A SCENARIO IN WHICH THE TEAM DOES’NT PAY PLAYERS,TB.ALL THE BEST KOGALO.
Accountability Is the Word EC,be accountable and kogalo fans Will be able to fund This big team.can u imgn 1m fans contributing 1000 each? You Will be surprises.siri ni kuwajibika.try us n i see!
I don’t think the current EC will take this great club to a new level. Some sponsors are shying away to support us because there is no accountability from our officials. Even fans are afraid to contribute since they don’t know where this funds will end.
Rachier n Co, accountability!accountability !acccountability is what fans and well wishers are asking for and you will see funds flowing in Gor A/C but if there‘s no clear structures Poleni sana.
It‘s better EC to act in advance to avoid crisis rather than talk !talk! without making any meaningful progress.
EC,plz plz we need accoutability,TUZO gave us amassive surport but there’s no Audited account that was given 2them showing how the a/c was operated, ihav evidance.we are doing our best 2market the Team lakini wapi.Am tryn if the deal goez throu iwl give out my number so that we go with EC,2 fine tune the deal,Lets all go out jst in the name of our beloved team wecant do without shirt sponser wea w’r sure of monthly income,me n my branch we can give out 30k per month EC kazi kwenu.
all i need is transparency in the accounting for cash and i wil donate handsomely
I think that is a very bright idea; let us all support it for the sake of the love for our players and the technical bench (coach included). 1,000,000 x 100= Ksh 100,000,000 . With 100 Million, we wil go far.
Personally I am not happy with the GM leadership style and team selection (since some players like Jared Obwoge, Joel Bataro are completely ignored) yet I will contribute even 5,000/- if at all that is what will make the difference as far as players’ welfare is concerned.
A noble idea whose time has come!!
However, for the office to get our full and unreserved backing, they must put in place a system that will be accountable and very transparent.
But if it continues with the same trend of not being accountable…as is the case with gate collections and the tuzo sponsorship then forget about our goodwill coz we do not want our money embezzled by greedy officials!!!
how do i contribute.
I thought we elected new youthful secretary and new youthful treasurer? These are young and professional, they must instill the culture of accountability in the club. I am ready to donate and I know many others are.Lets get more ready people.
But this is what the EC needed to have thought of much earlier; what were you waiting for, a crisis.
Yes sir! ber go!
I concur with the sentiments herein. Am able, ready and willing to donate 10k for the club.Perhaps the issue of a recruitment of members should be given a high priority.
What about a massive recruitment drive, where we have Gold, Silver and Bronze membership?
really / REALLY a funds drive for gormahia what a brilliant idea , why now cos there is no sponsor for 3 years we have had tuzo where , how did the office nicely use the gate collection ?this call for a stakeholders dialogue soonest we invite experts to help map out the way forward fund raiser is a short term fix while lack of astute management and wanton looting of club coffers are part and parcel of causes of hooliganism , so going forward the shall go back to the dogs if we are not careful the EC MUST COME OUT AND ADMIT that they have let us down perennially @mwakio,@oduor 12,@jabilo and the rest of us we who are in Kenya must come out and plan if possible change the statutes of the club immediately from where i am i can fund raise so quickly and better as i do for so many community projects at home in Kenya we can have a community wing , commercial wing as we had with mathare youth before , what do you lads think?
As much as we are not impressed by Ec accountability, the club is still ours and we not gonna fail to support it coz of the leadership.i will suggest they give one of the leading banks a role in collecting money from supporters through mpesa, roadshows , branch harambees and any other way and we will be able to support our team without over reliance on sponsors.
we nd 2 employ an accountant nt electd treasurer
JB. Well put. This is an idea which personally iv send to Rachier but as put, the problem is with the Ec. These are people who react on crisos and dont want to accept the fact that they are loosing it all together. Some of us have the neo expertise of helping out actually for free!
Guys, it’s good that we are in this situation. Our EC has been literally sleeping on the job. In fact thare was an ealier statement before TUZO left that even if they left there would be no financial crisis yet now Kilo admits that things ain’t so good.
We talk and talk and talk but nothing happens to fri=uition. Just beautiful ideas. What happened to the digital idea with DTB bank? How about the Mpesa bill number amongst others. If the current EC thought that there would be money in the team now it’s their time to put on the thinking hats.
Barca was without a shirt sponsor for long but was competing with Madrid on all fronts. Instead of reinventing the wheel why not copy that mode. When the Prezo for Barca was here two months ago did our EC think of engaging him on how they run their club?
Now is the time to provide that leadership people were campaigning for positions for. We are watching and waiting. Whoever feels the heat is too much will have the easy option to opt out of the EC. As a matter of urgency I believe Kidero might assist them to come out with a plan ’cause it seems we have no strategic thinker in the EC ”cause even the issue of merchandising the fans are far much ahead of the EC in terms of ideas.
Ber go ndi, but who will manage this funds, there is will can you win our trust by being accountable, can you people ask for forgiveness for printing of fake tickets. Let the Ec ask the kogallos forgiveness then you go to the media telling supporters how this funds will be managed.you people should put Kilo and Ngala out of this, they have really benefited from fake tickets.Assure as that, Ngala and Kilo will not involved within 6 months we will have 500,000,000. try us
Am ready with my Ksh.100:00
2000 on my head
I think Chris Omondi is an accountant by profession therefore the E.C should better manage the funds, however, let them be made aware of the fact that fans will demand more answers if they are to part with the contributions in form of results on the pitch: this is just a reminder that the hooligans will demand even greater rights when they do actually part with money, guys, let not what happened to George Bwana befall you, coz for sure these guys are ruthless, . . . .
You cant even account for fake tikets during our home games and u want 1m membership. Cant u just be transparent? Give us the road map and a direct bank account to M-pesa the cash. But you r dead if somebody does not account for my hard earned money. Dont think for 10years like Wenger please.
EC first pull up your socks on matters accountability!! the the rest will take care of itself.we have not been impressed by the ticket sales returns, merchandise sales and now you want membership recruitment without putting in place systems to curb fraud.members are really willing to raise funds but are not sure of the accountability !11
LET THE OFFICIALS TO BE FRANK N OPENED” We need the Account for our Team…M-PESA to Bank Account or ”PAY BILL” even for buying tickets.Bcz we can’t just take the Cash n through into River,,,,Am ready to Give 3000/=
I am contributing 3000 for the sake of players
Back to square one!!!
