Gor Mahia to recruit coaching staff

(Information courtesy of supersport.com)

FK Cup champions Gor Mahia is set to advertise for vacancies in its technical bench in a bid to revamp its coaching staff.

Secretary General George Bwana told SuperSport.com that the newly elected office had decided to advertise for the posts as they prepare for next year’s assignments.

“We held a meeting with the technical bench and agreed that it needs to be revamped. There has been hue and cry over our performances and it needs redress.”

Seen as one of the challengers for the 2011 crown, Gor had an inconsistent season with fans calling for Zedekiah Otieno to resign after a spate of poor results saw them fall off the title race. His assistant Anaba Awono was in charge for the last seven games of the season.

“There were a lot of issues with our bench in the just ended season. Our coach Zedekiah Otieno was on sabbatical, Charles Omondi who is our goalkeeping coach is currently under suspension and we have not had a team manager with the assistant stepping in,” he added.

The posts to be advertised include coach, assistant coach, team manager, goalkeeping coach and assistant team manager.

“We will place an advert in the media in the next week and have advised the current technical bench to apply for the job and we will give them special consideration. We will also take time and clearly define the roles of each of the new members of the technical bench,” said Bwana.

At the same time, Bwana confirmed that Gor will play archrivals AFC leopards on December 17 in a match organised by National Integration Cohesion Commission. Winners of the match will pocket Kshs1.2 million while the losers will get 250,000.

“We are already preparing for next year especially with the Confederations Cup and this match against Leopards will form part of our preparations as will the Jamhuri Day Cup clash against Tusker on December 12.”

I thank GOD for answering the deadly pretenders and separating the the truth from lies that have been peddled on this blog by the above named “Team ZD” .

And for those who doubt the source of my info be informed that even the ADMIN of this site has just read it from my previous post @ 6 ands verified the turn of the events from supersports.

I now wind up by thanking the most noble, reasonable and think-tanks bloggers that have ensured that we held together our truthful and patriotic position as the real KO-GALO followers with words and action devoid of nepotism, tribalism, favoritism and ethnicity but based on key performance indicators and reasoning from actual result oriented point of view.

point on ogango.WE AS KENYANS WHO LOVE SOCCER HAVE REFUSED TO LEARN FROM HISTORY.WE NOW HAVE INFORMATION IN MOBILE FORMS TO SHOW US THE FOUNDATIONS OF SUCCESS BUT WE CHOOSE TO IGNORE IT AND ENGAGE IN EMPTY EUPHORIA AND USELESS PROPAGANDA.IN 1999 NIGERIA HOSTED THE FIFA U-20 WORLD CUP AND THE WINNERS WERE SPAIN WITH XAVI,CASILLAS AND INIESTA IN THE TEAM.THE GOLDEN BOOT WENT TO MALIAN SEYDOU KEITA A PRODUCT OF MALIAN YOUTH SOCCER ACADEMIES WHO NOW PLAYS AT THE TOP ECHELONS OF FOOTBALL.HERE IN KENYA PEOPLE EXPECT PLAYERS WHO HAVE NOT BEEN TAUGHT BALL CONTROL AND PASSING TO EXCEL.SOCCER IS ALL ABOUT INTELLIGENCE AND THIS IS IMPARTED TO PLAYERS BELOW 15 YEARS.WE AS A COUNRTY HAVE NEVER QUALIFIED FOR A CONTINENTAL YOUTH COMPETITION YET SOME NAIVE KENYANS DREAM OF GOING TO BRAZIL.IF WHAT HAPPENED FOR THE SECOND YEAR RUNNING IN DAR DIDNT KNOCK SENSE TO OUR HEADS THEN NOTHING EVER WILL.Back to gormahia, looking at the turn around that Awono & Koops did to their clubs with the same players who were pathetic under zd and yakhama just shows how we are fooling ourselves with these local jokers in the name of coaches. Most of these former players/coaches are gambling with the future of the current crop of players and its about time we keenly follow what our secretary Mr Bwana suggest to rescue the situation.Only a qualified, fifa& caf sanctioned professional to handle these budding talents. We also need to set up our u-12,u-14&u-17 squads to secure our future.

  • RECRUIT YES, BUT DONT USE THIS EXERCISE TO SETTLE SCORES

The decision by the EC to revamp the coaching staff is not only timely but also warmly welcome by all and sundry.

Contrary to what our comrades, who have choosen to label me names think, i wish to register my support for this exercise. Our short term goal is to win the both the jamhuri and peace cup being organized by the National Intergretion and cohesion Commission. These matches will greatly offer us an opportunity to gauge our new signings as well the much needed practice before the confederation cup tourney early next year.

The peace cup has offered us another opportunity to square it out with our perenial rival, AFC Leopards. Apart from pride, everyone of us is aware of the amount of money at stake. Guys, we need these money badly. Let us pull all stops to win this cup.

I will not be suprised if comrade O. trailer and his ilk brush off these matches as inconsequential. They were quick to dismiss the officials for their decision to register K’Ogalo in the FKL cup. The trophy is now in our cabinet.

Finally, K’ogalo will be making history by being the first local club to headhunt for coaching staff on the national dailies. I expect the process to fair, transparent and reflects the aspiration of the majority of our fans. Let bygones be bygones. If coach ZD will not make it, i wish him well elsewhere. They say coaching is a portable career.

    Have a blessed Sunday .

I still stand by my comments that we can only believe information we get from the GM office, no matter how close your ears are on the ground on what is happening. I wish with your closeness to the office you could let them know that an offical site is necessary so that we don’t have to rely on unofficial info. From Ole Pareiyo’s comments above the same group which furiously blasted the office for having the office register the team for FKL cup are the same ones now having all types of suggestions on how we can perform better next year. Consistency should be observed in whatever we say. Some of those being blasted here have been consistent in taking the middle path all along and this has been misconstrued by others to mean advocating for status quo.

How i wish some individuals from the current EC were able to read and digest you suggestion; truly GM will become a force to reckon not only localy or regionally but continental wise.

    @ Post 4 Ja ngere
ZD has all the right to apply for the job, but some basic understanding should inform you that if you are holding a position under contractual obligation and then you take a sabbatical prior to expiry of your term, then common sense dictates that you have absconded your duties. Even in the corporate world when your position is advertised prior while still in office then you automatically know that the writting is on the wall.

@ Post 5 Brother pareyio ole lelerue
Your comments is what can be termed as a gentleman and sober-minded approach to issue’s. You sound very remorseful and apologetic with reference to your very initial stand and strong support for technical bench.
How i wish the rest could sober up and reason the same.

  • Please George Bwana and company, let us look for a foreign coach or retain Awono. Technically and tactically he was able to deal with Kimanzi and Koops and many other local coaches within a very short time in charge.

Looking at the CECAFA championships one thing comes out very clear. Kenya is down tactically and technically. We have seen it before and we saw it again. Mr. Bwana, the problems of Harambee are a true reflection of the state of our league. There really is no difference between Tusker who are the winners and Congo who were relegated. All who watched the matches this past season can agree.

Our local coaches will not turn around our fortunes. Their abilities are limited. This is an opportunity to raise the bar and get a qualified, tested and proven manager. I had suggested Hassan Shehata. If he is expensive give Matano a chance. I believe he is free but we saw what he did with Sofapaka. Let him work as Awono’s assistant. Awono can give us some ideas from Cameroon who are way ahead of us. The two may be neutral and because Gor is predominantly a Luo club, can do away with the problems we faced this past season of camps.

At least pareyio has commented like a mature person but for you ,kesore and Ja ngere it is becoming very clear that you can not comprehend difference between logic and illogical argument.

Please @ Dan just shut up ,carry your own cross and stop becoming a cry baby who is hanging other individual for support.

Which consistency are you referring to and based on what?

Are you not the same person who have been campaigning for the club to reward ZD with scholarship sponsorship for coaching courses abroad after his mediocre performance?

If you can suggest for us to reward failures then what middle-ground position are alluding to stand for?

@OGANGO TRAILER, you are spot on my brother. Kenyan football needs a facelift that can be done adequately by setting up proper youth systems at all levels in Clubs, Countries headquarters, provincial level and schools. Unless we invest in our youth systems, we are heading South Pole gentlemen.

Local coaches like ZD, Omollo, Kimanzi, Oyugi, Ghost etc will never take our clubs anywhere. In CAF Championship, watch and see how far will Sammy Omollo take Tusker . I can bet with all bloggers here that Tusker will be out of contention in the second leg or 3rd leg of CAF Champions. What we need from Sam Nyamweya and Sammy Shollei is a well functioning coaching and training tactics. We need lots of refresher courses for our local coaches. And above all we need to have technical advisors at all KPL club levels and occasionally take our ex-players and local coaches for training and attachments to top clubs in Europe (Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Rela Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Intermilan, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, Lyon etc) and Brazil. Sam Nyamwaya should come up with exchange programme and this will go a long way in improving our football techniques.

We have huge talents in both the urban centres and upcountry but we do not have means to tap these raw talents. For example, look at the secondary school games and primary finals, you will agree that there are talents. These talents need to be tapped and nurtured by well trained and qualified coaches and technical officials but with the current set up, we are going nowhere in football advancement.

On recruitment of GM coach, Zico should not even submit his application for the coaching job since he failed terribly during his 2 year tenure with nothing to show. He failed to unite players and unleash the potentials from our players instead he was hell bent in destroying other players careers. He need to try his luck elsewhere.

I’m very happy that Harmbeee Stars came back home empty handed. Kimanzi will not and will never take Harambee Stars anywhere. No local coach will ever take our National team anywhere in the football map due to lack of technical skills in winning bigger games. We need a well qualified foreign coach with histories of better performance to handle our national team.

This also goes with our football clubs. Unless we get qualified coaches/technical advisors with better credentials, we will continue to perform dismally.

In 1997, Gor Mahia won the trophy due to better technical bench that turned around the fortune of players into higher performance level. For my little information (still at Primary School), I think Gor Mahia had Len Julians and Jack that made the team to set history in Kenya and East Africa. These were great coaches with good players around them. This is what need to be replicated by our Executive Committee led by Amrose Rachier and Secretary General George Bwana but with more emphasis on youth football at all levels.

Gor Mahia needs a youth team that will produce players to the main team and of course this will require massive investment. Such youth team once established will be expected to replicate the playing pattern of Gor Mahia just like Barcelona, Manchester United, Ajax and Arsenal clubs in Europe.

We fans are willing to chip in anything if the office can call upon us and well-wishers to help set up youth teams at all ages. Thorough and marketable proposal needs to be made to all stakeholders in football to help make our youths busy with sporting activities and in our case football should be given first priority.

This should be a deliberate move to get our youths from drugs, law breaking, felony, wrongdoings, criminal activities and other delinquencies that are going to destroy their future. Stakeholders include Government of Kenya, Corporate Institutions, United Nation bodies like UNICEF, UNDP, etc, fans such as Mwakio, well wishers etc. I’m sure that we can get support from all over the world because this is going to sort our society problems.

Why can’t EABL or any other corporate assist KFA with recruitment of a professional coach? Our corporate institutions are just busy milking Kenyan populace without ploughing back to the community. Where is the thrust on Corporate Social responsibilities? Where is Safaricom that has continued to milk us dry? Where is Coca Cola? Where is Barclays Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Equity Bank, etc?

Corporate institutions please come up and help our football federations and clubs. Gor Mahia, AFC Leopard, Mathare, Congo, City Stars etc need corporate support. These clubs are playing a very important roles in getting our youths from bad beavior and it is through football that our youths can use their excess energy instead of being diverted to drugs, criminals and bad habits.

Lets advertise for the head of the technical bench continentally/internationally but retain AA as a senior coach. If we r sourcing locally then lets stick with AA as head n involve him in choosing his assistants-maybe this is what the new EC is subtly doing. However we will still need to beef up our squad with ball players frm CECAFA as bloggers ave advised frm the earlier posts. These pros will not only give immediate results but can be understudied by our local youngstars.

    Reply
  • Guys if you read the requirements for the new coach the least GM want is one with a Euro B certificate . Only Oliver Page, Kimanzi and Ouma of Rnagers have these credentials locally. That means that we have only the option of going international for one since Ouma and Kimanzi will form the Sofapaka tech bench. That will also mean that we recruit players of a higher pedigree to befit the credentials of a higher calibre coach. By the way what was the obsession with FKF that Kimanzi was to be the solution to all HS woes? After beating Seychelles we shouted how we have arrived only to be beaten by teams of our size

  • Albert Kosero (Sofaset Branch - Kampala)

George Bwana is doing his usual PR stuff. Advertising the posiiton of technical bench is not a solution because for starters, GM has no money to pay for a serious professional coach. Kindly identify a local coach and a TM then let them hire thier own support staff. Regarding beefing up the squad, I dont think, we need players likes of Victor Ochieng, Rama et el. Let the technical bench identify talents from schools. We don’t need quick fixes, they never work. Where is Ezekiel Odera? He was the darling of everybody while at KCB only for him to fail in Kogallo. Selenge is misfiring. Compare the big names with the then little known players like Blackberry, Kevin Omondi, Teddy Akumu. There is plenty of talent out there. We only need a coach like Abawa Sianga to tap the abandant talent that is going to waste. We also need a patient GM followers. Muzungu coach is not a solution. For God and my club Kogallo.

    Reply
  • Albert, it doesn’t have to be a Muzungu but it needs to be a foreigner for sure. There is nothing to write home about these local coaches you are talking about. Siang’a yes for scouting talent, but who else?

As for players, i agree with you 100%. Kogalo has the best squad i have seen in this league. We don’t need those guys from other teams. The truth is that our local coaches will always look at players in other teams even after making their own signings. Wako down tu sana. They need to sign players that they can make champions and avoid all these excuses. Right now Kimanzi needs more time with Harambee Stars and it makes me laugh loudly because the players will always assemble for only two weeks before any serious game. He had many months with Sofapaka and still needed time. Kalekwa buys him anyone he needs but he still needs time.

It is all over the dailies today, the federation and coaches are crying that we have no strikers in Kenya. Isn’t there someone who can make Ochomo play like Yekini, Oliech or even Odiaga? Isn’t there someone who can help Lavatsa become stronger and sharper?

It is also in the papers today that Gor collected over 15m from the gates but could have done better if only the performance was great. The truth is that a club like Kogalo can hire a proper tactician. It doesn’t have to be Wenger but we can and should do better than many Kenyan clubs.

Brother Kosero, we never agree on almost all issues but on this recruitment thing i can not agree more ( i hope that’s not painstakingly put).

    1. Truly i do not think these names work in GM, they never work at all, refer to what the ZD did in a bid to let die Schoolboys recruited by experienced Siang’a..if anything its only those brought from Schools performed..i need not name names..you know the players.

    2. I do not think we need to do major recruitment s,for one we never had any pattern or form of play and we were never playing the ball but chasing maybe the tech bench need only get the boys to play the ball now that ZD is out it can be achieved.

3.I also note that Dave Ouma really performed no wonder..kumbe he had the qualifications as opposed to some wannabe weed smoker.

    4. Creative village a qualified and disciplined coach will enable our players be even better than those you’ve named above.
    5. O’Trailer..why are you bothering with people who can only shout blindly at you? Did we not tell you to keep giving information available? Why don’t you keep up your cause and be judged by your performance and vindicated on authenticity? If i were you i would exercise the one fundamental right..leave them alone. You lose nothing.

@Kosero, Quick fixes do work. Moses Odhiambo aka Lucky Dube has been a welcome addition to Kogalo and has scored many crucial goals.. He is the calibre of signing we need for next year. For AFC, Baraza has been a very signing.
Relying on school age players is out. Its a lousy idea. The reason we were beaten 5-0 by APR in 2007 is because the team was composed of schoolboys. Kogalo cannot make the same mistake again.
Africa cup is not for school boys. It is for experienced people like Lucky Dube.

We are where we are but we have a chance in Confed Cup and to win the KPL next year. We must recruit wisely. I still believe the sponsorship deal can b well structured to enable us pay for a good professional coach. I still prefer a foreigner with experience and strong personality who cannot be swayed by locals. Not a ZD. Then we need to build our own structures, have under 13s, under 15s, 17s etc, train these boys and embed soccer in their DNA. The basics of soccer must be taught at a young age. They say one cannot learn to be left handed in old age. Same with skillful games like football. Let’s prepare early for the upcoming assignments. We need the KPL title, too long since Kogalo won the trophy. We need to play beautiful soccer and score goals, then fans will troupe back and gate collections will abound. Merchandise will be sold and Kogalo will run itself, even without a sponsor.

Btw, i said it earlier, Kimanzi is not the coach for Harambee stars, never. Too many excuses. I said the team was full of sofapaka players. Am happy they were eliminated. Kimanzi has the papers (may be) but not the tact. He has no game, just like ZD. We need a foreign coach, Kenya is too polarised, and our brothers exhibit this with unbelievable ease. We need a neutral person if we want soccer to grow in this country.

@wuonpap post 21, I would like to remind you that 90% of Kogallo fans are villagers struggling in life. A good number falling in the low income earners bracket. When you want to bring ideas of fans sending MPESA to help GM hire a professional coach, I wonder how many of us will. We cannot afford 2 square meals a day, your house maid is poorly remunerated or not paid at all, and your kids have school fees balances for this year not cleared yet you want the world to believe you can contribute so that GM can hire a professional coach. I think this blog is just a talking shop. We are talking very big or making unrealistic suggestions. Let’s talk of achievable stuff. Charity begins at home. In a previous blogs, we came up with a draft budget and what came out was that the total income in GM at the moment is not even enough to pay players handsomely. I wonder where some of us want to get the money to pay a real professional coach. We don’t need a muzungu tourist masquerading as a football coach like did Jack Johnson RIP.
Regarding HS, I am surprised that some of us have turned their gun at Kimanzi. You really rejoiced when ZD was fired and even credited Kimanzi for beating Sychelles 7-0. Now the story has changed. Some bloggers never cease to amuse me.
For God and my club Kogallo.

why cant we partner with Safaricom?
We can put heads together for fundraising.

    1. we have more than 5,000,000 active Gor Mahia fans and may be 1000,000 in – active members.
    2. all of these are safaricom subscribers.
    3. most of these are not registered members.
4.with safaricom, these can be registered memebers.
5.a minimum monthly fee of say 100/- can be put.
6.this can be deducted from airtime purchased as agreed.
7.do your calculations per month/year and tell me what Gor can not do.

Most of GM fans survive on less than a dollar a day. Where the hell do you expect them to get the 100 monthly fee from? You dudes you need to be realistic. I think the GM management needs to come up with ways to fatten the GM’s financial purse. Such methods might include improved gate collection, selling of t-shirts and other memorabilia, TV rights, sponsorship deals (the TUZO deal was at best a scam), among other ventures. There is no need to force members into expensive monthly fees yet majority (of the members) can barely afford three square meals a day.

Joe Riaga u r very very wrong,i dont know which school of thought u r coming from but what i can tell u is that u dont know where modern football is heading.the quick fixes dont last for long and they dont really achieve much.the one and only most sucesseful Gor mahia team(1987)was not a quick fix,it was groomed over a period of time(1984-1987).So these quick fixes u r talking about may win u the league but not any continental cup. That is what Sianga thought and introduced the current squad. All the big teams in Europe have lost by big margins at some point so Kogallo is no exception.we Just have stay focused and know where we are going.
