Chairman Rachier reveals to Goal club will heed Nairobi County’s orders to vacate City Stadium and move matches to Kisumu once perimeter wall is build
Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia have revealed they will shift home matches to Moi Stadium in Kisumu after Nairobi County asked them to vacate City Stadium.
“I can confirm that we are seeking for an alternative venue in Nairobi but as it stands our home matches will be played in Kisumu. We don’t want to block Nairobi County’s initiative to renovate the oldest facility in Kenya,” Rachier told Goal.
“We received a notice from Nairobi County to vacate City Stadium and I support the initiative because the stadium needs a new facelift. We must accept and get another venue for training and our home matches.
“Moi Kisumu is ready in terms of playing surface but perimeter wall is yet to be completed. Immediately contractors are done with perimeter wall, then we will move our matches to Kisumu. In the meantime, we are looking for an alternative venue in Nairobi and outside.”
Goal exclusively reported on Tuesday that Gor Mahia had been asked to to look for an alternative training ground by the management of City Stadium. The Nairobi County government plans to demolish country’s oldest Stadium and build a new facility.
Gor Mahia secretary Chris Omondi confirmed the same, “We have been informed by the county government to begin looking for another training ground because they want to bring down City Stadium and build a new facility.
“We have no problem at all with this arrangement and believe there are numerous training grounds around the city which we can use.”
I said so in the beginning of the year and some bloggers thought I was mad!!!! Nairobi offers no strategic direction for the club….just look at our fan base!
city stadium is a haven for bhang smokers, traffic prooned, dilapidated, rat infested and to my knowledge FIFA sanctioned stadium. The move was long overdue……….and in the interim, I would strongly recommend we play matches at either machakos stadium or mombasa stadium for commercial purposes. Off course nyayo and kasarani is out of bound as we owe the stadia board thousands of shillings….
In the 2nd half of the league, Now with kisumu stadium, we can mobilise the nyanza masses and rally the over 4 million people in the region behind one club….this club is going places, watch this space!!
Three viable options: Kisumu, Machakos & Mombasa. Negotiate with the counties and partner. No need for those bizarre cost Gor pay currently at City.
Negotiate for transport and accommodation sponsorship from the County that want to host Gor.
If anything, the County hosting Gor will benefit immensely in terms of business and sport.Gor fans are high rollers…good for business.
Don’t act desperate ( though Gor are ) just put ur conditions on the Governors table.
All the best.
I’ve just mpesaed my modest amount to 0727131564 the number of Solomon Nasio (registered as Austin Solomon).
I thought that was it only to get a response immediately.
The simple message that speaks volumes was:
“Thanx a lot”.
All I can say is it is for me to thank-you “King” Solomon (& the all the GM players) .
I wish you a full & quick recovery & God’s Blessing.
Kweli AR led EC have you started paying NHIF for the players.
11 EC members who can’t contribute kshs.13,636 each for Nasio’s treatment or even mobilize fans during a Gor match want us to believe that they contributed kshs.2.1M (190,909 each) to pay GM players.
Or are they simply giving back part of the stolen gate collections?
This EC will take GM nowhere!
Yes we have a sentimental attachment to KSM but the stadium has NO STANDS ama EC just want to from eat accomodation/transport cost.
Its simple clear the SSMB bill and use Nyayo for home matches. Its cheaper in the long run.
The only other alternative in Machakos.
Oduor12. It’s wrong to cast aspersions on the character of the EC without solid evidence. Many people are just saying stuff that is injuring the character of the EC without substantiation.
These r the same folks u expect to walk to sponsors and negotiate deals on ur behalf. Do u think those sponsors don’t read such blogs? And u expect results!
Emotions won’t take this club far.
Okay but Kisumu stadium is not ready and has not been ready for 5 years. Sasa timu hii itacheza wapi ?
SSSMB wameshatufungia nyayo na Kasarani stadium ati hatujalipa. Everyone is out to fight this team.
@KISUMU STADIUM: I wish to bring it to your attention that kisumu stadium is not just another stadium. It is important for THE MIGHTY GOR MAHIA OF EAST AFRICA to reconnect with its super support base by occassionaly playing some its matches in kisumu city.when KOGALLO Was MAHONO it used to do that. There r young fans to reconnect with.most have attached themselves to EPL for lack of identity.
Kisumu as the home ground is a no no. Machakos is the better option. once in a while some matches may be staged in kisumu but this is not a viable option for kogallo.
Kisumu Stadium! It is time we started playing some of our matches right at home, surely some of us will be going home over weekends! and by the way, si kuna Jumbo Jet?! . . . . comeon, Kisumu dala Kisumu e pacho
@JAKOYO. the bhang smokers dont bother me an its my sincere opinion that it should not bother anybody for as long as they dont ASK YOU TO PUFF. THE EC should seriously consider afraha stadium. its acessible to both the western circuit and the capital city. on the criticism of the EC, as long as its constructive, i can be counted in, but i cannot associate with baseless allegations for i am of the school of thought that leaderships deserves respect. bwana rachier tulete game nakuru, you wont be disappointed
REVIVING THE LOST GLORY.: The Mighty Gor Mahia of East Africa should consider playing some of our home matches in all the key towns as a way of reviving our support base kenyawide : mombasa, kisumu, kericho, eldoret, malindi, nakuru, busia, bungoma, and any town with JOGOR.
