Gor Mahia unveil new signings
from nation.co.ke
Gor Mahia has laid down an ambitious plan aimed at improving the stature of the club ahead of the 2011 season.
On the day the club unveiled four of its top signings at their Nyayo National Stadium secretariat, club chairman Ambrose Rachier announced the club will next week advertise for prequalification for various services the club will be outsourcing.
Among the services the club intends to outsource include ticketing, marketing and public relations, security during matches and medical insurance for the team players.
Rachier said Gor Mahia wants to partner with reputable firms to professionalise its operations and maximise on revenue at the gates.
“We are going to advertise for prequalification for key services. We want to do things in a more professional way.
“We want a reputable firm to take charge of our security and to do our ticketing,” said Rachier at the press briefing.
He also said Gor Mahia will soon announce vacancies for key positions of financial officer and set up a strong marketing team, procurement department and general administration.
Club secretary-general George Bwana said it is important for a club of Gor Mahia’s stature to professionalise its operations so as to attract corporate partners to work closely with the club
“We want to be the first club to outsource services and have service providers to bid. We will be very transparent in how we handle the bidders and we will welcome them as our partners,” said Bwana.
Gor Mahia needs a whopping Sh60 million to participate in the Caf Confederations Cup.
The club officially unveiled four of their top signings, Ramadhan Salim from Congo United, Ivo Mapunda from Bandari, George Midenyo from Tusker and Yusuf Juma poached from Thika United.
Rachier also used the opportunity to announce that exiting captain Julius “Awilo”Owino has been deployed to assist the technical bench.
Salim, last season’s best new player, said he was at Gor Mahia to win titles, adding he was very excited to play for a club of K’Ogalo’s stature.
“Any young player would love to play for a club with passionate following and rich history like Gor Mahia. I am honoured to join the Green Army,” he said.
Midenyo, who last season won the February/March Kandanda best player’s award, said he was at Gor Mahia to score goals.
“It’s my job to score. Gor Mahia fans should brace themselves for a great season,” said the former Mathare United and Tusker FC striker while Mapunda said he would fight for the number one jersey at the club currently held by Jerim Onyango.
“We have three quality goalkeepers which is good because there will be serious competition.” Gor is also closing in on Nigerian Felixinho Ifeanyi who played for Power Rangers in Nigeria last season.
He is expected to fill the void left by Eric Masika who joined rivals AFC Leopards. K’Ogalo have been busy in the transfer market.
The club has also brought in goalkeeper Wycliffe Kasaya from Bandari, defender David Owino and midfielder Peter Juma from Karutiri Sports and midfielder Ali Abondo (Tusker).

mwakio you thinking is way ahead of its time when it comes to football management in Kenya………..
Mwakio. Well said. The earlier we start implemeting some of the things in your list the better. Some of them literally cost nothing but will have a massive boost on all those associated with GM. I only hope the current EC is reading this. You have to aim for the stars so that if you don’t make it first time then you can land on the moon. Thanks Bro Mwakio for the insight.
Mr chairman why can’t we sign kagere.
