Gor Mahia to play Shabana in GOTV shield
Kenya Premier League side Gor Mahia have been handed Shabana FC in the second round of the GOTV Shield Cup set for this weekend.
Gor Mahia have won the local cup for two years in a row, each time beating Sofapaka. In 2011, Kogalo won thanks to a goal by Edwin Lavatsa. Last year they beat Sofapaka in the final thanks to the penalty saving heroics of goalkeeper Ivo Mapunda and his magic towel.
The second round draw involved all the KPL teams who were given a bye for the first round, and the winners of the first round ties which were played a fortnight ago.
Gor Mahia were seeded for the second round along with last year’s other best teams : Sofapaka, Tusker and AFC Leopards were seeded for the second round. Tusker FC will meet Talanta for the second time after also playing them last year; Sofapaka will play Agro Chemicals while AFC Leopards will have a rather easy fixture against Wazee wa Kazi.
The matches will be played on the weekend of August 24 and 25 with the exception of Gor Mahia and AFC leopards who will play their matches the following weekend as they will be involved in the highly anticipated derby.
This year marks the first time that the local cup has a sponsor. GOTV has taken up on the sponsorship of President’s Cup after signing a five year deal with Football Kenya Federation. The winner of the tournament this year will pocket a cool two million shillings with the losing finalist getting Shs750,000, half a million for the third placed team while the losing play off team will earn Shs250,000.

Coincidence or Rigging. How come Kisii teams were paired against each other in the 1st round & 4 the 2nd year running a Kisii club stands to benefit frm a financial windfall by facing GM.
Back 2 the game against City Stars its true that K’galo players gave 100% but this was in terms of effort, in terms of technique (finishing&passing) is where the problem is,though there’s significant improvement. TB/TACTICALLY VERY MUCH IMPROVED
GIVE TEAM LEGENDS I.E OBWAKA,LULE,SIANGA A CHANCE,DONT RISK GM
I thought GOR, Afc gotv matches are scheduled for this w/end. I need clarity on this issue.Whowever I wish to praise Go TV for sponsoring this tornament and making it more atractive by offering cash awards.
As it happened to Borabu chiefs, may the same be repeated.
Oduor@1 I feel you have campaigned enough for your candidates, it is now boaring to read it each passing day.
I think you can change this menu by submiting on this blog informations about them you have and believe has a bearing on their suitability for leadership responsibilities.
@2Mboya, a campign must be sustained as each passing day someone new may b convinced.
Sorry 2 bore u & thanks for your suggestion on their profiles, as I strive 2 do that allow me 2 continue ending my blogs urging 4 two issues.
1.THIS TIME AVOID UNKNOWNS & VOTE TEAM LEGENDS IN PARTICULAR OBWAKA,LULE,SIANGA,MAKAMU
2.REDUCE THE NO. OF EC 2 BETWEEN 4-6 & HAVE A SECRETARIAT WITH A FULL TIME COMPETITIVELY SOURCED & QUALIFIED CEO,FINANCE MANAGER & STRUCTURES.
IN FACT POINT 2 IS MORE/MOST IMPORTANT
@Oduori 12, i know you are supporting certain individuals for the up coming elections, but please give time until election time. We are in a very critical state at the moment. Give the current office time to complete their term then we see what next.
From the article below from futaa.com is this how we want to handle our players? I have always supported AR but on this issue of Danny I’m very disappointed. The boy has given everything to help Gor, the fans have reprocicated but the EC have been all about their tumbos. A footballers life is very short so let’s help the boy prosper. It must be give and take which Danny is doing but our EC are behaving like the proverbial hyena.

After close to ten days out in Armenia where he tried out with Armenian top flight side Banants FC, who offered him a six months contract, Gor Mahia striker Dan Sserunkuma has all but given up on his Armenian dream and has opted to return home to help Gor Mahia clinch the 2013 Kenyan Premier League title.
His trip to Eastern Europe for the trials has been shrouded in controversy as he was accused of ‘sneaking out’ without the club’s consent.
No head way
His agent Ken Joseph has been castigated by both his club Gor Mahia and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) for being behind Sserunkuma’s move and the two are considering reporting him to FIFA for ‘unethical’ misconduct.
After soul searching, Sserunkuma has decided to forget about greener pastures, for now, as there seems no head way in his anticipated switch from Kenyan to Armenia football.
In an express communiqué to futaa.com, this is what the former Nairobi City Stars player,
I have been punished
-I am disappointed with the way things have turned out in Armenia. It is every player’s dream to make it in trials and sign a contract with a club.
-But in my case, I passed my trials, the coach and players like me but yet we cannot reach an agreement because I have been punished for ‘sneaking out’ of the country which is just not true.
-I guess there is nothing else I can do at this stage but to go back to my club Gor Mahia. The Armenian transfer window closes in seven days and I do not think this issue can be sorted out at this stage.
Win the league
-I would like to thank my family, my agent and the Gor Mahia fans for all the support they have shown towards me in the past 7 days.
-I will do my best for Gor Mahia to make sure that we win the league this time around. Every disappointment is a blessing, he added in his parting shot
Sserunkuma was acquired by Gor in June 2012 on a two year contract.
