It is derby time
The most important match of the KPL season is here as Gor Mahia host arch rivals AFC Leopards on Sunday at Kasarani. Leopards are in a much more confident mood. But the mashemeji derby is always unpredictable. The in-form team does not always win.
Gor Mahia will likely be missing Khalid Aucho and Abouba Sibomana who are injured, while Ali Abondo who is busy searching for a new club is also unlikely to feature. Upfront Gor Mahia will once again call upon the services of Enock Agwanda who is the only person who has scored goals this season. He will likely be partnered by George Odhiambo “Blackberry”. The striking duo will contend with two former Gor Mahia defenders Eric Masika and Israel Emuge plus goalkeeper Lucas Indeche whose good form this season has seen him called up to the national team.

The Gor Mahia defence has played well this season. Skipper Musa Mohamed is continuing with the good form from last year. Karim Nizigyimana appears to be experiencing patchy form. He may be replaced by Bernard Odhiambo as was the case in Mahajanga. Jerim Onyango who has played in the last three games showed excellent form against Ulinzi on Wednesday and will likely start between the posts. Jerry Jagoal made numerous superb saves on Thursday and is resurrecting his career at a time when most thought his mind was already focused on his political career.
Jerim is upbeat ahead of the derby.
“We are optimistic as a team that we will get positive results against AFC Leopards even though we know it will be a tough match as they have been inform since the league begun ”
“Things have not be rosy for us In terms of winning but I believe on Sunday will be the ice breaker at Kasarani. We are buoyant and ready and I have urged my teammates to remain relentless and focused throughout the game and give our fans something to smile about because in derbies form does not matter”Onyango told supersport.com
New Leopards coach Ivan Minnaert has already been told the importantance of the derby and was at Afraha on Thursday to watch Gor Mahia take on Ulinzi.
“I know that you cannot compare a Kenyan derby with one in Rwanda but I have handled such high profile matches before,” he said to the nation.
Frank Nuttall for his part will need to conjure up some magic for a team that has scored two goals in the last five games and has not won this season. Nuttall was satisfied with collecting a point against Ulinzi on Thursday.
“We were hoping to get all the three points against them (Ulinzi), however it did not happen. Both teams played a good game and created chances. They failed to capitalize on our mistakes and we also failed to finish our chances. But the bottom line is we are happy with a point instead, of coming home with nothing.” he told goal.com
This one is a special dedication to all fallen derby mashuja such as my man Francis Kadenge, Hassan Juma not forgetting John Okello Zangi. Rest in Peace Mashuja.
Since Gor can’t score lets pray that they escape with a draw-the best result Gor can get in any match now
With much Positivity and Optimism I wish The Mighty K’ogallo a resounding victory against our able and inform arch rivals. I strongly believe that the vigour with which The Team was training today in the evening would be emulated tomorrow during the match. Otherwise I’m wishing Jaques a quick recovery. He appears to be getting back to fitness. Our First Win this season coming against the in-laws.
I wish kogalo all the best
Gor 2-1 AFC. Our first three points on Sunday. I only fear for poor striking force.
GOR must win by hook or crook! Period. We need to be within the TOP 8 position or rather any where within the mid table. Let’s gamble with this position till June transfer period and as usual we are always stronger in the second leg of which any thing can happen. GOR should strive to win or draw with all title contenders until we rediscover our winning mentality with or without strikers in the first leg.
Wishing Kogalo a decisive win today against Ingwe.
In victory and glory, in defeat and agony, Kogalo for ever !
This jaro soja guy needs to be tamed. He is an embarassment to the club. Good luck Kogalo
