Its derby day
It is time once again for the Mashemeji derby which pits Kenya’s two most supported teams. The two teams will meet on Sunday at the Nyayo national stadium in the latest installment of a rivalry that goes back 45 years.
On current form, Gor Mahia should have the upper hand as Leopards are in 12th place having recentky lost to Nairobi City stars. But when it comes to this derby, current form is not usually much of a factor. Last year Leopards were in top form and looked set to run away with the league title when they came up against a Gor Mahia side that was in poor form and battling in the relegation zone. However Gor Mahia managed to force a scoreless draw even after having Ali Abondo ejected from the game and thus, earning himself the nickname “tear gas”.
Leopards will be depending on Mike Baraza who seems to score in every derby game since 2011. To counter him, Gor Mahia will count on skipper Jerim Onyango who has been in superb form between the sticks as well as David Owino “Jashirati” , Ivan Anguyo and Israel Emuge who will be experiencing the Mashemeji derby for the first time.
Gor Mahia will have the psychological edge having won the last three matches. But leopards will be hoping their new coach, Luc Eymeael can come up with a formula to end their run of bad results against their arch rivals. They will also be counting in their new young charges, Pattilah Omoto and Edwin Seda to rise to the occasion.
Gor Mahia for their part will be counting on Kevin Omondi, Moses Odhiambo and Anthony Akumu to create scoring chances while hoping that Dan Sserunkuma, Rama Salim and Edwin Lavatsa bring their scoring boots.
GOD help us
God help us overcome this hurdle & deliver us any form of victory.we can only count on you to give us the much needed victory after falling to tusker . Every one say amen
LOGARUSIC VS EYMEAEL
With only hours to big Kenyan derby, i can express in mere words a feeling of profound elation and anxiety in me. Every these two teams clash either at the league level or Top 8 knockout, the nation literally stand in awe and envy of the two community clubs.
I feel extremely proud to be a fan of one of this great clubs ( you don’t have to which one because it’s already in the public domain). But if you insist, it is Gor Mahia. The bug caught 6 years ago. Gor Mahia is not just my club, it is my lifestyle. Let’s leave at that.
Today, it’ll be battle royal for Logarusic and Eymeael. The two foreign coaches have an opportunity to justify their huge pay perks. While coach Logarusic of Gor Mahia has two titles under his wraps ( 2012 FKF & Top 8 cups), Leopards tactician is relatively new at his club. Coach Logarusic still owe us one thing; the Tusker Premier League title.
Finally, le’ me convey my most sincerely best wishes to the entire Gor Mahia family. I know the boys are acutely aware of the gigantic task ahead of them this afternoon. The Green Army will be there to cheer you to victory. To the fans, let’s cultivate a spirit of good sportsmanship by accepting the results. I can’t wait to watch the derby!
As was expected Ingwe gor the game ratings and money but we got the points. Before the disruption the game was like a cup finsl. The pace was too high for the gor midfiled as well as for Musa on the left. The work rate for Danny was good as well as our defence especially Jagoal. All in all let’s celebrate dillegently and condemn acts of hooliganis. The scenes today during the derby were not warranted and we cannot condemn one set of fans and leave out the others
It happened that i wasnt in nyayo today and still i watchd the game big up to our players for giving us points anyway we were outmatched by ingwe but still we managed to pick 3points.
This is the team of the future..INGWE lost but we are satisfied to the bream! As @Kikuyu says above the team is young and our young players ran rings round the OLD GOR PLAYERS. Omotto was just superb and I am seeing this boy going places the way WANYAMA has done.Luc Eymael…please just tell the boys to enjoy playing and not to be pressured by us fans for win.God bless our team.Next is Nakuru na tunakuja.
Shemeji can never win playing good football just to be sincere. Well played AFC what u now need is to balance ur traditional soccer and the enyamael school of thought/philosophy then goals of wins will succeed
THESE TWO CLUBS LOVES BLOOD
I want to speak from the bottom of my heart. I have stated here that the safety of fans and everyone else in the stadium is paramount. I have never shied away from saying these two clubs is followed by innocent whenever they go.
Hate me or love me, that is the truth of the matter.
If proper records were kept, the number of people we’ve lost and injured during these games can be mind boggling. A section of fans from both teams are not ‘ real fans’. They are on the stadium on a different mission.
Seasoned bloggers like Le Pastre, Mwakio, Dan, Joe riaga, Ogango Trailer, Eric, Albert Kosero always keep mum whenever such ugly incidences ocurr. Look at the earlier comments above. None have dared to talk on yesterdays incident. There must be mutual condemnation from fans of both the clubs.
If you guys find pleasure in splilling innocent blood, we are not. If you don’t care about the safety of your children, we do. If you lack manners, we have. I want to state that this is not the only club we can offer our support.
@Pareyio 2013 look at my comment @4. I have been called names on this blog for advocating for sanity both on the pitch and even on our internal Gor administration. Some have even said that i pretend to be ‘houlier than thou’. The truth is that i used to tag along my kids to the stadium but after last yeas teargas the young man declared that he will support Gor only by spirit, no physical appearance. This also happened to my non hard-core office colleagues.
The issue is that while we were pleading for calm some of our colleagues were really enjoying the exchange of missiles. What they were not aware of was that Ingwe wanted the match abandoned and relayed and we were busy ssisting to achieve that. Note that the Ingwe players never bothered to calm their fans despite even being the home team
@ pareiyo, its soo unfortunate wht happened yesterday and the same happened when we met afc last and I had to escort my son running and it instilled fear in him and normally would not attend a match when told its gor vs afc.
When I entered the stadium I saw couples coming with their young ones as young as months and it disturbed me the moment the 1st teargas was lodged before the match started.
Question in ma mind is whether the kids could take in the pungitive smell of teargas when it was chocking me at the VIP stand.
I strongly condemn hooliganism in strongest term possible and fans should style up and mature.u can’t say tht u are supporting team by hulling stones which could render u blind if the same is done to u.
For once supporters should refrain from criticising players and saying that they can’t perform,I loved when the someone told fans to appreciate when players are on the field coz when put under similar condition they can’t do anything. For believers remember the power of the tongue.
For the win I was happy and congratulate the team for their performance.wish them the best in next match.
THANK GOD IT HAS COME TO PASS.
I cant tell who is who in the yesterday’s mayhem but I can tell for sure that I really enjoyed the maturity of Kenyan soccer yesterday. The best side of Log is that he never underrates.KEEP IT UP.Now, self defense is natural in all living organisms. My humble request is to the security system to inform the public on who begun what….so that we may know how to act.otherwise it will be a circle of hooliganism. Soccer is a noble game and not a bloody affair.
