Former Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars defender Julius Awilo Owino believes he will make a great coach in future after he was confirmed among the 12-time Kenyan Premier League coaches.

Keepers and defenders

The former Gor Mahia captain observes that even in the world stage, great coaches who have courted success are those that were defenders or goalkeepers during their playing days and as such he aims to emulate the same.

Awilo was speaking to futaa.com after his confirmation during the official unveilling of new Gor Mahia players at Nyayo National Stadium on Friday 13 January.

Playing days are over

-Just check around the world, great coaches were either defenders or goalkeepers in their playing days so in my new capacity as a Gor Mahia coaching staff member I want to focus on making a great coach now that I have confirmed my playing days are over, he said.

Former AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia defender George Sunguti had also earlier predicted a bright coaching career for Awilo, whom he said had a keen learning instinct and discipline at the highest level.
