Kogalo set to tackle soldiers

Gor Mahia will face off with Ulinzi on Wednesday night in a top billed Kenya premier league match at City stadium. This match comes only a few days after Kogalo beat Ulinzi secure the KPL top 8 tournament. Gor Mahia will now be seeking to avenge the first leg defeat they suffered.

Ulinzi have been going through a dry spell that has seen them go winless in three games. The primary reason for this has been their blunt forwardline led by former Kogalo player Wycliff Ochomo and Anthony Nderitu. “The truth is we have been creating a lot of chances as a team but let down by lack of finishing power.  We have worked hard to correct this. We believe today, the fruits will be evident,” coach Michael Simiyu told the Standard.

Gor Mahia will also have to find away around Ulinzi’s stifling game which effectively cut off the supply of passes from midfield to attack.

Gor Mahia for their part have also not been convicing in the past three games. Coach Logarusic has attributed this to fatugue caused by playing four games in 20 days. Gor Mahia will however be encouraged by the imperious form of Jerry “Jagoal” Onyango who has been rock solid between the posts. So good has he been that all three coaches at Gor Mahia have said he deserves a national team call up. And since new Harambee Stars coach Henri Michel has been watching Kogalo matches and attending training sessions, it should only be a matter of time before “Jagoal” is called into the national team.

Also encouraging is the recent form of the towering Ivan Anguyo and the versatile Anthony Akumu who has been rounding back to the form that saw him earn a trial in Denmark 2 years ago as well as Edwin Lavatsa who is back in form after a long injury layoff. Moses Odhiambo when healthy has been in superb form. He should supply key passes to Dan Sserunkuma and Rama Salim whose form this year has been reminiscent of Abbas Magongo circa 1985.

Pablo Njuguna is out with a knee injury. He will be replaced by Ali Abondo as Gor Mahia seek to extend their 17 match unbeaten streak.

  • Best wishes. Do us proud this afternoon and let’s lay the ghost of Top8 controversy to rest just like we did with the Tusker game

As journalist we should always confirm facts before putting it in black and white. “…after Kogalo beat Ulinzi in penalties to secure the KPL top 8 tournament”. The top 8 final Gor Vs. Ulinzi didn’t end in penalties but, extra time where Gor won 2 nil.

All the best though we expect a tough match Ulinzi is more physical we need to avoid physical contact and capitalise on the off side trap blanders and we SHALL WIN BIG

Almighty God we pray that you grant us a win. Our desire is always TO WIN THE NEXT MATCH.

Best of luck team. We shall be there to play our part as the 12th man. Yes, avoid much physical contact with those rugby players. Play your trademark short passing ground balls.

To Teddy Akumu: you always remind me of George Nyangi Odembo. You have the height, just like him and just like Bobby. You have demonstrated the capability to fire those long range missiles like those greats before you. You only need to focus on your target then give your shots some direction and appropriate height and the net will be shaking in your name.

@Kassam Mwivangano we are ready. Thank you for rallying the troops to battle.

It is always our solemn prayers that may the Almighty God will grant us for victory over Ulinzi after 90 minutes in the Mighty name of Jesus Christ, which is above all other names in the earth, under earth or beneath the earth.

Almighty Lord, we shall give you all the glory, honour and praise for listening to our prayers.

Just a point of correction – we did not beat Ulinzi in penalties to secure the KPL top 8 tournament but beat them in extra time of 15-15 mins. Secondly, we have not played only 4 matches in 20 days as it is indicated above but more than four, maybe six or seven since we are talking of an average of two matches per week and 20 days+1 is average of 3 weeks- let that be food for thought and not point of focus since it will not change our today’s game-plan.

That aside- as Dan, Ochigah & Barefoot put it in above remarks we are ready and the match will not be an easy one since Ulinzi are already wounded and in our win against them, one of the goals brought controversy so I expect the referee may be more ‘strict or biased’ with us due to ‘public opinion’. Therefore it means the boys have to be extremely sharp upfront and if possible, because Ulinzi are physical, let us not start with Ssurunkuma, Rama & Odhis(25) upfront but have either one or two of the above starting with Kevin Omondi or Lavatsa upfront then the rest can come in as substitute so that we go against Ulinzi’s expectation. Hope this is a good idea.

A lot of butterflies in my stomach, not because i fear Ulinzi but worried every time we meet this soldiers . They are physically superior than us and have big appetite for the silverware. Lying slightly behind Gor Mahia on the log because of goal difference, Ulinzi will have a point to prove themselves.

Logarusic boys on the other hand are psyched for match. Indeed the coach willl be trying to continue his winning streak. Whilst I do not want to speculate on who is the starting eleven, I have no doubt the boys are acutely aware of the heavy responsibility ahead of them this afternoon.

Already there is a mixed feeling of excitement in the air as fans await the striking pair of Rama and Imbem to electrify the stadium with their deft passes and ofcourse clinical goals.
Not to forget the antics of Logarusic on the sidelines who himself have become a celeb of sorts. The Luo inside cannot keep him on his bench. Best of luck ‘ mboys ‘!

Omera our midfield creativity is still lacking. I want to see more flair and creativity in midfield. The defence is as solid as ever, we have only conceded 15 goals so far, only tusker have conceded less.

  • I believe the absence of Pablo will see Moses Otieno bringing out his best. He is ,by the way, one our best ball controllers. Pablo will be fit and rested by the 23rd September but for now we MUST win this game convincingly. Boys we are all behind you and best wishes and no injuries.
