Lavatsa brace sinks Swaziland

There were six Gor Mahia players who saw action as Kenya beat Swaziland 2-0 in their second COSAFA cup group B match. A goal in each half by Edwin Lavatsa saw Kenya through. The first goal came when Lavatsa received a cross from Aboud Omar in the Swazi box, and fired into the net leaving keeper Nhlanhhla Gwebu hapless.

The second goal occured in the 54th minute. Once again it was Omar who did the spadework. His cross was met by Peter Opiyo whose shot was deflected. Lavatsa pounced on the rebound to score again.

Paul Kiongera who scored in the opening game came close in the 58th minute but his attempt off a cross was saved by the goalie. It was not all one way action. Jerim Onyango in the Harambee stars goal was called upon to make several saves. Also seeing action were Rama Salim, Anthony Akumu and David Owino.

One issue to worry about is the sheer number of games that these players are participating in within a short period. So far it has been 3 games in 3 days. That cannot be good especially for injury prone players.

That is class of k’ogalo.pple who r educated in football.a product of k’ogalo doing national duty having been called to do so.
There were 7 k’ogalo players at a time. That is Jerry, owino,Akumu,Musa,Rama Kiongera & Lavatsa playing at the same time.

  • I’ve always said Love-A-Star has great potential to be score goals, its about time this potential was realised for GMFC.
Strangely he’s one of the few players who perform better 4 country rather than club. It is my hope that the “signing” of the season coach BW can finally help Love-A-Star realise his potential.
Reality check don’t get too excited with this H.S staff coz this is the minnow stage of the tourney.

@ 3 Oduor12 – I agree with you Lavatsa has a great potential; unfortunately he seems to be misplaced position-wise at GM and that’s why he is not scoring at the club level. It is high time we realize which position best suits him.

On a positive note, it’s good the technical bench realized that Jerry ‘Jagoal’ is better than Duncan Ochieng’ and gave him an opportunity to prove, which he did faithfully and by now they know who to stand between the posts.
