Logarusic declines to release players to U-23 camp

Gor Mahia coach Zdravko Logarusic this afternoon rejected plans to have his players join the national U-23 soccer team camp without his consent saying the right procedure of calling the players to camp was not followed by the Federation.

The coach said he just learned that his players were supposed to be in the national team when he saw them go for training at the Nyayo stadium.

“I just saw this today, I am meeting my players here going for national team training. I have had to send them back home because they are supposed to be resting. It is not fair to me, the players and to the club to overwork the players. There needs to be a special schedule and players bodies need to work around a systematic formula.” The coach said.

Gor Mahia players Musa Mohammed and David Owino had already reported to camp but the coach had to turn them away.

“The players had a match on Sunday, now I am told they will be playing another heavy match against Botswana on Thursday then we play league match on Sunday.

This is not good for the players. I have not even seen a letter requesting for the players to be released for national duty, proper procedures need to be followed.” He said.

On Monday, AFC Leopards coach Jan Koops said he will not release his four players for the match on Thursday since his team has a crucial league fixture against City Stars 24 hours later at the same Nyayo stadium venue.

I concur with my colleague arum tiddi that the coach has proved his critics wrong on including me both on the pitch and result wise. I also believe procedures should be there and must be followed, hence fkf should have informed the clubs in good time and may be scheduled the match earlier or later. Question, how come the chelseas & barcas manage three matches in seven days and tournaments also make players do alot of games in a short while. I think thursday is a bad day for the u-23 match given the w’end matches but players may need to work more like their counterparts in other parts of the world.

  • The said players have been released except Rama who has been replaced by Akumu.
Kenya will never do well with players who do 30 matches a year when their counterparts in west africa are doing around 45.the players need to play more matches for their on good.you dont gain form by playing two matches in 14 days, never.the more matches you play, the better it is for you carreer development

To start with, why are we playing Botswana on Thursday? Was it that urgent. Or is it meant to improve our World FIFA ranking? In other words what value is it meant to add coz always the final squad of our national team is composed of foreign based players despite call-ups of the local based players usually meant to fill the number.

Always we are complaining that no GM player has been called to the national team. Now that they have been called what is the big deal. Does it mean it’s only GM that did not get the letter or it applied for other teams?

If we have enough players in the camp then let us release these players so that they can get more exposure and earn some extra coins.

@ 6 i can understand what you are talking about because you never played soccer in your life, i think the coach is right not to release the players, they need to use proper procedure state by FIFA for national duty. There is not point in playing this friendly game as all this guys will be dropped anyway when the so called pros come to town.

Motema @7 I don’t have to concur with you for you to believe that I’ve ever played soccer. I have no regrets regarding my comments. Let us focus in issues but not deviate and move attention to scathing remarks…Thanks for understanding. If you are good in soccer which team are you playing for?

  • It is a dream of every player to turn out for their national sides.why deny them the chance?
News from futaa.com have it that Gor coach went to Nyayo this morning and actually plucked Rama out of the training field.
As much as we would like this guy to do wonders for us on Sunday against chemilil,we should let him chase his dream ie play for his country.playing in a friendly for forty five minutes wont kill him bt prepare him better for the next match. These young players are ready for the challenge, why stop them mr coach?

  • If the coach says that Rama sustained a knock during Sunday’s match, and needs a rest to recuperate, then I would trust him. Like he said “players bodies need to work around a systematic formula”.
Rama is one of his priced players and all he wants to do is protect him.
I support you Logarusic – be firm with these Football Federation guys; although I must admit that it will be an uphill fight, because these people do not follow any systematically way of organising things, a number of things are done in an ad-hoc manner !!

  • For those castigating the coach let them know that our problem as Kenyans (Africcans) is not abiding by laws. Since the game is not FIFA/CAF-sanctioned friendly as it falls of the official calendar no team is obliged to release it’s players. Have you guys ever heard of FKF picking up the medical bills of a player injured during national duty. It;s the club that does that. If people want to mint money using some player’s names then they should try elsewhere. Ulinzi stars are complaining that their players are never considered for national assignments maybe this was the time to include them. Just read from futaa.com that FKF will write a stern warning letter to the coach for his action and I hope they will back their letter with a clause which says that a player must play for HS for some meaningless friendly even when they are injured. Since the Euro season has not started why didn’t they dare to call Oliech, Mariga, Mugabe etc? They know they would have been ignored like plague.
