Machakos replaces Kisumu for Top 8 clash
The Top 8 match match between Gor Mahia and Thika United which was initially scheduled for Kisumu has now been shifted to Machakos according to the KPL. No explanation was given.
Gor Mahia will face Thika United in a Kenya Premier League Top 8 match at Machakos Stadium on April 20 (Sunday).
According to a communiqué from KPL League and Competition Administrator Phoebe Amuyunzu, the match that was earlier earmarked for refurbished Kisumu Stadium will now be played in Machakos.
According to goal.com, Kisumu County refused to accept KPL’s request to have both teams flown into the town for the match.
“KPL requested Kisumu County government to cater for team’s traveling expenses by air but it was turned down. Furthermore, the county in return demanded if they air lift teams and officials to Kisumu, then they are allowed to pocket money from gate collections…a decision KPL also turned down,” said goal.
Kisumu Stadium

The reconstruction of Kisumu stadium has taken close to 5 years. It was accomplished with help from FIFA who provided the gleaming new artificial surface while the government funded repair of the terraces. Unlike Machakos however no new terraces were constructed so the capacity remains the same.
Gor Mahia has a happy history of playing in Kisumu since historically the fans in that region are the most fanatical. Legendary coach Len Julians once marveled at the fanaticism in Kisumu saying that of the club could harness all that fanaticism into membership, they could make a lot of money.
In the past, Gor Mahia always used Kisumu as a home ground for some of their matches. The second round match of the 1987 Africa cup winners cup was played in Kisumu. When Gor Mahia won the CECAFA cup in 1981, they played their group B matches in Kisumu beating KMKM of Zanzibar 2-0, Uganda Breweries 2-0 and drawing 0-0 with Simba of Tanzania. In fact playing at least one international match per year in Kisumu was a club tradition.
with no home team kisumu project will end up being a ‘white elephant’. the garbage by the gate remind you of how inept ppl from this region are. ‘wait for the goverment to give us policy’ is what rules here.
nissan matatus carry 5 a row n the kisumu lands office makes the police look like saints. and in all the 47 counties, kisumu is rated as the county most difficult to do business in. … and yes i come from this region too. i guess it’s because we are not in goverment.
what is happening. ? RANGUMA SHOULD AV TAKEN THIS OPPORTUNITY TO PROMOTE SPORTS TOURISM IN KISUMU.LET GOR MAHIA RESPOND TO LEN JULIANS VISION. LET US RECRUIT 100000 × 1000 KSH. THIS 100 MILLION KSH. LET US NEGOTIATE WITH EQUITY BANK TO USE THEIR MASHINANI AGENTS FOR BANKING. LET FANS APPLY TO JOIN GOR. WE CAN DO IT ONLINE AS A SIGN OF COMMITMENT…….THEN WE PAY OUR 1000 KSH..IN FIVE INSTALMENTS. IN FIRST FIVE MONTHS OF EVERY SEASON….WE NEED REPUTABLE AUDITORS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY….IT IS DOABLE JOKA NYANAM.
Kisumu will eventually have a home team. In fact with a proper stadium, SoNy, Chemelil and Muhoroni can bring their big home games to Kisumu instead of heading to Afraha. This will save money. In fact even Western Stima can do the same.
I admit I am little disappointed that they did not build any new terraces. After 5 years of waiting, this is a bit disappointing.
Tom nva eva associte Gor wth Equity bank or u lv bloggng sawa??
Jakoramdo is too bitter for swallowing. I think it would have been wiser voting out all the former ec , the remaining lot have alot of experience in looting and frauding the club. Just look at the way diamond bank ticket offer was replaced with fake tickets.
@Jakorando, please let us know the problem of associating Gor with Equity. Maybe you know something we don’t know
We r in a capitalist system and we will work with all.it is not evil using THE BANKS INFRASTRUCTURE TO DEVELOP OUR CLUB
Tom plz gv us a brk wth equity. u cnt thnk bynd equity?
Tm we nd ideas tht helps equity cnt hlp Gor vn if u r a marketer thr
jakorando give ur idea to disqualify mine pliz rather dismissing my suggestion.tell us what to do to finance SIRKAL
@Jakorando, there is nothing wrong with proposals or suggestions of using Equity Bank infrastructure. This is about doing business with anyone that will give us a real value additions in terms of making the fund raising proposal a success. In business you do not discriminate but working with all sorts of people in driving our agenda to a successful level. You with people or institutions that have success story behind them like Equity Bank. Equity Bank is the fastest growing bank and it overtook Barclays Bank and Standard chartered bank to be now number 2 after KCB.
i thnk ranguma is sleeping,he promised the all nation @ citizen tv that kisumu wil b ready to host cecafa bt all ws in vain n nw he cnt host gormahia again!! #unacceptable#
@Jakorando unfortunately you haven’t given us reasons for your stand. I hope the bank did not deny you some facility you applied for or attached your property for defaulting. If that be it then sorry but that is personal and has nothing to do with Gor. Don’t be surprised if this is onr of the institutions AR approached for sponsorship.
On Kisumu stadium this is a wakeup call for us. Of the 47 Governors only two Mutua and Awiti are moving their counties forward while the rest are playing politics.
All these people tlkng of equity seem teens n r nt awre of alt gv us gd proposals
Tm dan n mwakio i knw thr is nthng u knw bynd equity bt we nd a brk
Dan mi proposls i knw whr 2 channl nt here
@ Jakorando your postings are pathetic. You are not offering solutions apart from empty rhetorics and talking big for nothing. It‘s simple just tell us why we should not engage Equity or are you the likes who view things along tribal lens? Style up man.
what did kpl expect be given stadium and player s transport kwani kisumu county is red cross ? i don’t think so , back to our issue of making Gor a brand , we need to go down memory lane the European clubs started as a welfare and later professional outfit its high time we grew from from being a matanga , amorphous out fit to a professional set up its the way out here sponsors are looking for a growing franchise not one which is stagnant , looted and vilagely run
omondaye we dnt rsn stupidli like tht keep off mi postings
omondaye ths opiniöns cn neva be usd at Gor.u betta realz n stp
Jakorando, please use proper English. Some of us can’t read and comprehend your postings. Thank you.
@Jakorando is simply a Luo in his true element. why r u giving warnings on nothing you own? so you hate equity coz it’s not ‘YOUR’ bank. do you have a better alternative? why not give us one Luo business that can support Gor.
Ranguma knowing about Nyanza passion for football should have been the first one out of the blocks as far as stadiums are concerned. by now i would be chasing two different stadiums for football et rugby respectively. do i have to explain why?
he should have for example wooed gor to relocate to Kisumu. Gor has a better chance of building infrastructure in Kisumu than in Nairobi. the fan base is there and life could be cheaper for the club. the Gor land that Moi gave was a road side declaration, it’s a pity when Gor officials talk about getting it back. that, will never happen.
mcosweto am sori i dnt teach comprehension if u cnt 2 bad
@jakorando, your english is pathetic. You better express yourself in either Swahili or mother tongue. I have never understood what you meant with all your postings. Please enlighten us further.
